Jessie Mei Li led the show, starring as Alina Starkov, with Mal (Archie Renaux), helping the protagonist develop a best friend-to-lover arc before the story ended in 2023. "It was just the most amazing time," Li said to The Hollywood Reporter concerning the show and its cancellation. "It’s obviously devastating that it was canceled, but also it felt like we ended it on a high. Sometimes these shows go on and on and on. We had two of the best years of my life. It was so good. And we’re all just super close still.

With so many canceled shows continuing in comic or graphic novel form, its safe to say Shadow and Bone is not exempt from the conversation. Shadow and Bone was canceled in November 2023, barely a week after Netflix released a connected game titled "Enter The Fold" during Geeked Week. And while a comic run would be a good way to see the show safely continued, it breaks my heart as a comic fan to say that a Shadow and Bone comic book continuation wouldnt workand its not what the show deserves.

Its second season arrived in 2023 after much anticipation. The adaptation combined the trilogy Shadow and Bone with the duology Six of Crows, both written by author and executive producer Leigh Barudgo.

The cancellation of Shadow and Bone left fans disappointed with unresolved storylines. Actor Ben Barnes' commitment to The Institute makes a Shadow and Bone return uncertain, as the actor takes on a lead role in the Stephen King adaptation. Other Shadow and Bone stars like Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, and Daisy Head have also moved on to new projects, making a revival seem even less probable.

Stephen King's The Institute show kills any hope I had left for a Shadow and Bone revival. Shadow and Bone is a young adult fantasy show based on the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo, and its popularity soared following its premiere in April 2021. Shadow and Bone gripped me from the beginning with a talented cast including Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li, and Archie Renaux. The show brought some of my favorite characters and relationships to life with a compelling narrative, making it a thrilling experience from start to finish.

No one in the Shadow and Bone world is better at keeping secrets than Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter). His crackling tension with Inej? Unspoken. His heartbreaking past? Hidden. And, in the Season 2 premiere, we learn that he’s been sitting on one of Jesper’s (Kit Young) biggest secrets for a while.

Jesper is a Durast — and even he didn’t know his best bud Kaz had any idea.

The truth comes out in the first half of the episode, when Kaz and Jesper are handcuffed by the smiling pirate Sturmhond (Patrick Gibson). Rather than actually freeing Jesper himself, Kaz tosses his friend a metal coin. Eventually, Jesper turns the coin into a lockpick. Jesper is taken aback that Kaz knew about his Durast abilities, but not shocked. Kaz always knows everything.

The Shadow and Bone TV show never completed Six of Crows' storylines due to its cancellation. Essential members of Kaz's crew are introduced, but they are never all working together at once. The official six members of the "Six of Crows" are Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina, Matthias, and Wylan.

With Doctor Who's three anniversary specials coming out in November, the BBC is sparing no expense in building up the hype surrounding the big 60. The network has just announced that the beloved Redacted podcast has finally been renewed for Season 2, and it will essentially be a blast from the bast -- The Sarah Jane Adventures stars Anjli Mohindra, who played Rani Chandra, and Alexander Armstrong, who voiced Sarah Jane's supercomputer Mr. Smith, will both be part of the cast (via DoctorWho.tv).

In “Shadow and Bone” Season 2, Jesper and the Crows are back in action, set mostly against the plot of “Siege and Storm” and “Ruin and Rising” by author Leigh Bardugo. Jesper remains the talkative one who has a flare for theatrics and the dramatic, but it turns out that he still has parts of him left to be revealed.
