Forgotten 7.45-Rated Anime on Mal No One Remembers Was Created by Mha: Vigilantes’ Hideyuki Furuhashi
Image
Hideyuki Furuhashi has established himself as a household figure owing to projects like Mha: Vigilantes. But there are some underrated series from Furuhashi that the anime community might have overlooked.

The 2012 series, K Project, is one such little gem that slipped through the cracks, and it deserves way more love than it got. With a solid 7.45 rating on MyAnimeList shows, the show has this cool mix of supernatural action and mystery.

The story follows a young guy named Yashiro Isana who gets caught up in a crazy world of psychic “Kings” and clans. Sounds intriguing, right? But sadly, it fell off the radar and got drowned out by the bigger shounen hits.

That slow start hides an underappreciated thrilling ride

So we get to see Yashiro being this chill high school kid, and then bang, he is suspected of murder. He gets hunted through the streets by badass clans, led...

10 Smartest Sci-Fi Anime Villains Ever, Ranked
Image
Sci-fi anime titles have many profound themes that are reflected in their antagonists. While the protagonists of sci-fi series may exemplify the positive morals that the anime tries to instill in viewers, the opposite is true for their enemies. They serve as a dire warning about advancing technology or fears about the effects of forces beyond human control. Many times, these villains can be highly cunning, pushing the heroes to their limits.

Some of the very best villains in the subgenre are also the smartest. For every villain who prefers to brute force their way through problems, there are 10 different masterminds that meticulously carry out their plans. That doesn't mean they sit on their laurels though. These genius villains often directly confront the protagonist, impeding their goals.

Tite Kubo Might be on the Track of Finally Revealing Aizen’s Bankai in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War
Image
From visuals to storytelling Tite Kubo’s series Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War is all the rage. Studio Pierrot went the extra mile with the series. And it doesn’t disappoint in any way. Rather, it is more than promising in several aspects.

With the third cour in premiere, the series unpacked some of the major battles. Be it Mayuri’s duel with Pernida or Shunsui’s showdown with Lille Barro, it was spectacular in most ways. There is, however, an ability yet to be charted in the final cour.

The Third Cour tops the charts with some of the major events unfolding. Of these events, Aizen’s power was iconic. And in his bound state, his saving Seireitei was nothing short of legendary.

Though he may be a menacing villain, he stands unparalleled in his wit and strength.

Film Review: Missing Child Videotape (2024) by Ryota Kondo
Image
Winner of the Grand Prize at the Japan Horror Film Competition as a short film, Ryota Kondo‘s debut feature “Missing Child Videotape” might sound like another “Ringu” copycat, but is actually quite unique in its presentation of horror. Let us take things from the beginning though.

Missing Child Videotape is screening at Tokyo International Film Festival

The story takes place in 2015, although one could say a part is also occurring much before that. Keita is a young man living a quiet life working in a supermarket and sharing an apartment with Tsutaka, a school teacher. Both of them, however, have their secrets and their issues. Keita is still feeling guilt from being the one present when his younger brother disappeared 13 years ago, and still goes to the woods where the whole thing happened on occasion, to search for him.

It is in one of those ‘excursions’ that he finds another missing boy,...

The Uchiha Clan's Strongest Members, Ranked
Image
The Uchiha Clan is among the strongest clans in Naruto. It is among the Hidden Leaf's noble clans. The Uchiha clan has a rich history and many of the strongest shinobi in the series hailed from this clan. However, there is a very dark phase in their history: Uchiha Clan massacre.

The Uchiha Clan was almost wiped out by Itachi Uchiha in order to stop a coup against the Hidden Leaf. Itachi killed everyone in his village except for his little brother, Sasuke. Currently, the clan has three members. However, in its glory days, the Uchiha Clan was home to some extremely powerful characters, some of them among the most powerful in Naruto history.

Updated on August 12th, 2024 by Louis Kemner: This list of the strongest Uchiha ninjas in the Naruto universe has been expanded with more information about these elite, Sharingan-wielding warriors.

10 Best Anime Fans Will Never Believe Are About Sports
Image
Sports anime can focus on activities that aren't traditionally considered sports, like Karuta and Shogi, but still highlight competition and sports-style structures. Salaryman's Club is a youth-blasted badminton anime set in the corporate world, showing the protagonist's struggle to balance his dreams and his realities. Prince of Stride is a unique sports anime that combines the explosiveness of sprinting with the dexterity of obstacle course running, resembling modern-day parkour.

The best sports anime that fans will never believe are about sports focus on activities ranging from tabletop games to poetry, with athletic elements slipping seamlessly into the background. Despite this, the anime with seemingly inconsequential sports focuses will start to show its competitive colors once the main characters delve deeper into the essence of the respective sports.

The question of what makes a sports anime a sports anime is rather ambiguous. There are a plethora of series about mainstream sports,...

Crunchyroll Removes The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons Episode 1 Over Bad Subs
Image
Season 1, Episode 1 of The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons, "Yuzuki's House," premiered on Crunchyroll on Oct. 5, 2023 to widespread complaints over the quality of the anime's subtitles. Crunchyroll temporarily took down the episode on Thursday in response.

Two employees at Anime News Network posted about the incident on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "Woof, not sure what happened here but Crunchyroll's subtitles for The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons are straight-up unprofessional. 4 out of 5 sentences don't have punctuation, overly literal translation that mixes up possessives. It's a mess."

River Review: A Refreshing Time Loop Comedy With Heart & A Great Ensemble Cast
Image
River is a unique and entertaining time loop movie that knows when to speed up and when to slow down, offering a refreshing take on a well-worn premise. The film cleverly shifts between different characters, preventing it from becoming repetitive, and introduces new plot twists and romantic interactions to keep things interesting. Riko Fujitani delivers a standout performance as Mikoto, grounding the story with heart and emotion, while the ensemble cast adds levity and makes the film engaging and memorable.

Time loop movies are great. Even though we’ve seen the premise play out numerous times onscreen, most of which have been influenced by Groundhog Day, filmmakers continue using the concept in creative ways. Junta Yamaguchi’s River plays with the conceit from various angles, and the result is oftentimes sweet, hilarious, and chaotic. River knows when to speed up and when to slow down, when to infuse a brief bit of romance,...

10 Naruto Scenes That Changed Shonen Anime Forever
Image
Twentieth-century shonen titles like Fist of the North Star and Dragon Ball helped set the stage for today's shonen anime world, but it was the "big three" that really made shonen the #1 demographic for anime. Those three titles redefined what shonen can be, introducing or reinventing staples such as the power of friendship, the virtue of hard work, and the pain of betrayal.

Naruto fans, for example, can point out many classic scenes in Masashi Kishimoto's masterwork that played a role in creating the modern era of shonen manga/anime. Even if Naruto drew plenty of inspiration from what came before, this anime also had its own fresh, bold ideas that established certain shonen conventions or took them to the next level in a way no other anime could possibly manage.

River Review – FrightFest 2023
Image
Time loop movies are all about finding the beauty in repetition; helping us understand our rhythms and routines, and find a way to think bigger. To evolve beyond what’s comfortable and familiar – to grow. So it seems only apt that Junta Yamaguchi and Makoto Ueda’s smartly-assembled new feature River, is itself a play on their own kind of familiar. Effectively a rerun of the team’s other time loop movie, 2020’s festival smash Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes, River doesn’t so much build on that winning formula as it does simplify it, chasing soul over science-fiction, and ending up with something deeper, if a little too similar.

Sweeping long takes? Hyper-mobile camerawork? A chaotic farce with a hint of the fantastical? River does it all, again, often feeling just as much a quasi-sequel to Two Minutes, as it does a follow-up for Yamaguchi, Ueda and their troupe of actors.

Fantasia 2023 Review: River, Laughs and Thinking About the Future, Two Minutes at a Time
Image
In the wintry valley town of Kibune, Japan, we will find the Fujiya Inn. There we find one of the waitresses, Mikoto. They are sent to the basement to do a quick inventory count when Mikito steps out back where a small river runs behind the inn. As they look out they have a small prayer and go about their work. Two minutes later they're back behind the inn, in the same spot by the river. Weird. A case of deja vu perhaps? Mikito gets back to work, and… two minutes later she is back behind the inn, again. Something is wrong. They know it. The other employees and guests also sense it as well. They discover they are all stuck in an endless...
