Clari Ribeiro is a director, editor, and visual artist. A partner at the independent production company Excesso Filmes, they premiered their new short film, If I'm Here It's by Mystery, at IFFR 2024. The film explores the genres of fantasy, suspense, and science fiction.
In 2021, Clari won the Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival for their performance in A Wild Patience Has Taken Me Here (Éri Sarmet, 2021), a film they also edited. That same year, they directed and edited their second-to-last film, Desire-Factory Against the Industry of Fear, an interactive fictional work with three alternative endings.
For the past 11 years, Clari has worked as an editor for films and series and led the direction and editing of X-Manas (2017), an experimental queer dystopia screened at over 30 national and international festivals and showcases, and A Carne é Beijo e o Avesso Água (2019), a video installation that blends analog photography, carnaval, and noise music.
In 2024, Clari received the Best Editing award at the 26th Kinoarte Film Festival for the film Vollúpya. Meanwhile, If I'm Here It's by Mystery received an Honorable Mention for Outstanding Narrative Short at Frameline48, the Special Jury Award at the 31st Vitória Film Festival, the Lili Award for Best Short at the 39th MIX Copenhagen, and the Best Film award (Official Jury) in the National Short Film Competition at the 26th Kinoarte Film Festival.
In their films, Clari experiments with form and mixes cinematic genres, creating delirious worlds and fabulous characters.
