Bruce Wayne's Batman is good at a lot of things, but taking bad news isn't one of them. Now, as he wrestles with a revelation that changes everything about his parents' murder, the Dark Knight is back to shutting out his allies and working to exhaustion, but this time without faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth to snap him out of it.
The Waynes knew their killer long before the fateful night that created Batman.
A preview of Detective Comics #1095 - from Tom Taylor, Mikel Janín, Norm Rapmund and Alex Guimarães - shows that Batman now has confirmation that his father Thomas Wayne once saved the life of Joe Chill - the man who went on to kill Bruce Wayne's parents. Bruce's confidante Dr. Leslie Thompkins confirms his worst fear - "Joe Chill would have died if not for your father's intervention."However, there are darker implications than just this twist of fate.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is no stranger to playing tough guys, and now he’s stepping into the animated world of ‘Invincible’ to voice the brutal Viltrumite warrior Conquest. A new behind-the-scenes video has dropped, showing him in action as he records lines for the Season 3 finale, and it’s got us excited for what’s coming. The finale aired on March 13, 2025, on Prime Video, and Morgan’s take on this iconic villain is already making an impression.
In ‘Invincible’, Conquest is a heavy hitter from the Viltrum Empire, sent to Earth to deal with Mark Grayson, the show’s hero voiced by Steven Yeun. Morgan’s deep, gritty voice fits the character perfectly, bringing out the menace of a warrior who loves a good fight. The video shows him in the recording booth, pouring energy into lines that hint at the chaos Conquest unleashes in the finale. It’s a big moment for the series,...

Following the release of The Batman one popular fan theory suggested the journalist, Edward Elliot, who was killed as part of Thomas Wayne’s cover-up, might be the father of the Riddler, Edward Nashton. While the movie never explicitly confirms this, there are some interesting connections that fuel the theory.
Both share the first name “Edward,” which could suggest a deeper link. Riddler grew up in an orphanage after Thomas Wayne’s actions led to Elliot’s death, raising the possibility that Elliot was his father.
If so, Riddler may have originally been named Edward Elliot before taking the surname Nashton. The film also references “Hush,” a villain tied to the wealthy Elliot family, further suggesting a connection. However, there’s no direct confirmation, and it could just be a coincidence.
Now in his most recent interview, Peter Craig who served as the writer in the first Batman movie finally addressed this theory.

Warning: Spoilers for Absolute Batman #4
Absolute Batman's bulky design received intense backlash from fans upon his initial reveal due to how different it was from the classic look. As it turns out, that costume is Bruce Wayne's second attempt at a bat-suit, and the first is even more shocking. Rather than making every aspect of his appearance larger-than-life, Batman's original attempt at his costume ended up being much more terrifying.
The preview for Absolute Batman #4 by Scott Snyder, Gabriel Hernández Walta, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles depicts Bruce Wayne's earliest days as the Dark Knight. Gotham criminals are seen pushing a woman off a rooftop, only for her to be rescued, and they're suddenly ambushed by a menacing figure who had been looming over them.
This figure turns out to be none other than Batman, but his costume is unlike any he's ever worn in DC lore. Rather than relying on his overwhelming size,...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan could have been the leading man of his new horror-comedy movie but opted not to. The actor is likely best known for television roles including playing John Winchester on Supernatural, Joe Kessler on The Boys, Jason Crouse on The Good Wife, and Denny Duquette on Grey's Anatomy. However, he has also held roles in prominent movies, especially those directed by Zack Snyder, including playing Comedian in Watchmen and Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Morgan joined the cast of The Walking Dead in 2016 as the notorious villain Negan Smith, a role he played for more than 60 episodes across six seasons and later reprised in the spinoff Dead City, which has been renewed for the upcoming season 2. Arthur Fleck's true parentage may finally be confirmed in Joker: Folie Deux, possibly implicating Thomas Wayne. Thomas Wayne possibly being Arthur's father could reshape Batman and Joker's origin story and add complexities to their rivalry. Joker: Folie Deux will likely include more fact than fantasy, as Arthur Fleck will be on trial and receiving therapy.
By addressing one of the biggest mysteries from its 2019 predecessor, Joker: Folie Deux could irredeemably change Bruce Wayne's own origin story as Batman in Todd Phillips' dark Joker franchise. Despite taking place outside the mainstream DC Universe, 2019's Joker did introduce a younger Bruce Wayne, long before his parents' double murder and his evolution into the Caped Crusader. Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and the young Bruce Wayne, played by Dante Pereira-Olson, may have a much deeper and more harrowing connection.

It's been a while since we had any official word The Batman - Part II, and the lack of updates following the announcement that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be heading up a new Dcu led to some speculation that the movie may have been delayed yet again or possibly even shelved altogether.
These were valid concerns given the DC Studios heads' decision to (almost) completely revamp everything that came before and introduce a brand-new Caped Crusader in The Brave and the Bold, but Gunn has always assured fans that the "BatVerse" would continue as an Elseworlds franchise.
Now, co-writer Mattson Tomlin has confirmed reports that cameras are set to begin rolling in 2025, and his comments suggest that the sequel will be worth the wait.
"It's shooting next year. We're gearing up, and I will say that the bar just couldn't be higher," Tomlin told ScreenRant.

Matt Reeves' The Batman introduced new takes on several classic DC Comics characters, including the Caped Crusader's feline foe turned love-interest, Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
Played by Zoë Kravitz, Selina infiltrated the Penguin's Iceberg Lounge in an attempt to track down her roommate Annika. It was later revealed that she was actually Carmine Falcone's daughter.
Kravitz is set to return for The Batman - Part II, but isn't sure exactly when she'll get to don the cat-suit again.
"Matt [Reeves] goes into his hole when he writes," the actress/director tells Collider. "Again, he’s a super intense, detail-oriented director, so I just keep myself busy with things like [Blink Twice] until people call me."
Kravitz went on to explain how she'd like to see the character evolve when she does reprise the role.

Dark Age Batman has a military background, leading to an updated, fresh take on the iconic Robin suit. The DC Comics series reimagines Batman's origin and Robin's role, hinting at a possible reinvention of the Robin legacy.
With so many different Robins over the years, there have been tons of different costumes for each of them. Every time a new Robin shows up, they get a new outfit. This is especially true of alternate universes, which DC has plenty of, as they've just shown off an awesome new look for one world's Robin.

But his most hilarious re-invention came when famous comedian John Cleese changed Batman's origin to make him a victim of Superman's super-strength after a disastrous cricket game.
Superman: True Brit by Kim Johnson and John Cleese set out to answer the timeless question of "What if Superman were British?" This experiment naturally had hilarious results, as Superman was encouraged to never use his powers (for fear of what the neighbors would think). This led Superman to repress any memory of his powers, including his super strength.

Whenever he’s needed them, family and friends have helped Bruce’s city by stepping up and trying on the cowl for themselves. While not everyone’s cut out to be Batman, the following ten people have tried their best at taking on the role of the Caped Crusader.

Michael Keaton's return as Batman in The Flash ruins the potential for one important character from DC Comics' Flashpoint storyline. 2023's The Flash is set to mark the end of the Dceu and will kick-start the development of James Gunn's new DC Universe. The movie is adapted from DC Comics' 2011 crossover series, Flashpoint, which saw Barry Allen, a.k.a. the Flash, travel back in time to try and save his mother but cause more catastrophe in the process. Flashpoint reset the DC Universe in the comics, just as The Flash will in the live-action franchise, but the trailer for The Flash has revealed a very different storyline from its comic source material.

The Flash Season 9 Episode 5
As the final season of The Flash barrels toward its endgame, the stakes keep getting higher. “The Mask of the Red Death, Pt. 2” not only sees Barry and Team Flash finally bring the villainous Red Death to justice, but also reveals Iris is pregnant, sees Chester and Allegra finally admit that they’re crazy about one another, and features Khione displaying some sort of strange new healing abilities that save a badly injured Mark Blaine. While these are all the sort of big narrative events that the show normally saves for a season finale, it’s the surprise return of Batwoman heroine Ryan Wilder that likely packs the biggest emotional punch.
With much of The CW Arrowverse wrapping up alongside The Flash’s final season, the fact that the show is managing to include characters from across this superhero universe is incredibly satisfying.

While the first trailer for The Flash confirms that the original DC Comics Flashpoint story will serve as the primary inspiration, several key elements are missing as well as some critical differences. However, the basic framework will still exist with Barry Allen's Flash inadvertently changing his universe's timeline after an attempt to prevent his mother's murder in the past. That being said, the domino effect that's created in The Flash starring Ezra Miller will feature a lot of changes from the iconic DC Comics storyline.
2011's Flashpoint preceded the DC Universe's New 52 reboot. After saving his mother, Barry Allen's Flash wakes up to an altered world where he has no powers and the lives of his fellow heroes have been drastically changed. As such, Flash regains his abilities before battling the Reverse-Flash and fixing the timeline, resulting in the newly rebooted universe. However, The Flash trailer confirms the...

Whether they’re fighting alongside or against each other, Batman and Superman are undoubtedly one of the most famous duos in comic books. While the two characters have their fair share of differences, it turns out they have more in common than their mothers’ first names. In fact, before the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel were even born, their fathers, Thomas Wayne and Jor-El, were working together.
Superman/Batman #50, titled "The Fathers," opens with Thomas and Martha Wayne driving through Smallville, Kansas, on their way back to Gotham. Martha is pregnant, and as the couple playfully debates what to name the child - which Thomas is convinced will be a girl - a comet crashes on the side of the road right where they’re driving. General Zod's return in The Flash has a deeper meaning for the reset of the live-action DC Universe. After previously being seen in 2013's Man of Steel, the first film in the now-defunct Dceu, Michael Shannon is set to make his return as the Kryptonian villain, which will see him portray an alternate version of General Zod when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) finds himself trapped in a new timeline after trying to travel through time to save his mother. General Zod previously met his demise at the hands of Henry Cavill's Superman, but now it'll be the Flash and Michael Keaton's Batman attempting to thwart the villain.
Influenced by DC Comics' 2011 Flashpoint event, The Flash will replace the threat of the Atlantean-Amazon War, led by brutal versions of Aquaman and Wonder Woman, for General Zod who was previously seen in Man of Steel. This isn't the only change from the comic storyline,...

The upcoming Dcu The Flash movie stars Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne, which raises an important question — whether The Flash is going to the Tim Burton Batman 1989 universe in The Flash. The upcoming Dcu Flash movies is a chance for James Gunn to officially reboot the Dcu with an in-universe narrative explanation. Keaton's appearance alongside Ben Affleck (also as Batman) is likely tied into this. However, just because Michael Keaton is returning to the role of Batman for the first time since Batman Returns, it doesn't necessarily mean that this is Burton's movie world.

Todd Phillips’ Joker was met with positive reviews and box office success, but it’s often been criticized for being derivative of Martin Scorsese’s underrated showbiz satire The King of Comedy. Phillips’ movie borrowed a lot from the Scorsese oeuvre – from the deranged vigilantism of Taxi Driver to the uncontrollable anger of Raging Bull – but its plot and characters have the most in common with The King of Comedy. There are plenty of parallels between these two darkly comedic crime movies about the illegal antics of delusional standup comedians who get pushed to the edge.

For most moviegoers, M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin will serve as their introduction to Ben Aldridge, and what an introduction it is.
The English actor — who’s most known for his TV work including Pennyworth’s Thomas Wayne and Fleabag’s “Arsehole Guy” — also appeared in December’s well-reviewed but underseen Spoiler Alert, so Aldridge has been on the verge of breaking out for some time now.
In Shyamalan’s latest emotional thriller, Aldridge plays Andrew, the protective husband of Eric (Jonathan Groff) and adoring father to Wen (Kristen Cui). Early on in the film, Andrew’s family’s cabin getaway is invaded by Dave Bautista’s Leonard and three other strangers who insist that Andrew and Eric must sacrifice a family member in order to stave off the apocalypse.
For Aldridge, working with Shyamalan was a dream come true as he felt like a movie star for the very first time.

Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler will not continue at HBO Max. Pennyworth was a Batman prequel series delving into the past of esteemed Bat Family member Alfred Pennyworth. The series ran for three seasons, starting at Epix before jumping over to HBO Max for season 3. There, the drama series created by Gotham's Bruno Heller was joined by fellow DC shows Titans and Doom Patrol, both of which were also canceled just a few days before Pennyworth's fate was announced.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that HBO Max has decided not to move forward with Pennyworth season 4. The series starred Jack Bannon as a young Alfred Pennyworth, who would go on to meet iconic DC characters like Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and Martha Kane (Emma Paetz). Pennyworth was retitled as Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler for its third and final season, likely in a move to garner more interest in the series,...

The Joker is no stranger to brutality, but his murder of one of Batman’s rogues using a banana peel showed that nastiness and silliness aren’t mutually exclusive. He might have considered himself the devil, but Dr. Hurt proved himself just as much a clown as the Joker with his ignominious defeat.
The most important antagonist in the first two-thirds of Grant Morrison’s tenure on Batman is the criminal mastermind Doctor Hurt. Simon Hurt is the alias of Bruce Wayne’s ancestor Thomas Wayne, a devil worshiper from the 1700s. Hurt’s summoning of the Apokoliptian monster the Hyper-adaptor, in the shape of the Bat-demon Barbatos, grants him near-immortality. In the present, Hurt becomes a psychologist and uses his connections to manipulate Batman’s very mind, but critically underestimates the caped crusader’s tenacity, planning, and allies. Warning: Spoilers for The Flash #791Despite the universe-shattering consequences of the Flashpoint event, the Flash Barry Allen nearly repeated the same mistake that caused Flashpoint in the first place. Barry once again wants to go back in time to stop a loved one's death, and the only thing that's stopping him is the Speed Force itself.
Speedsters being able to go back in time is far from a new concept; the Flash has been time- and dimension-traveling since the Silver Age of comic books, when Barry Allen truly was the Fastest Man Alive. But Barry took time-traveling—and its devastating consequences—to new heights in the 2011 Flashpoint event, which reset the DC Universe so drastically, it was the launching point for DC's controversial New 52 era. Flashpoint follows Barry Allen as the Flash after he manages to run back in time to save his mother from being murdered when he was a child.

Over numerous appearances in film and television, Linus Roache has become somewhat of a chameleonic actor that can lose himself in a role. After memorable turns as Thomas Wayne in "Batman Begins" and the obsessive cult leader Jeremiah Sand in "Mandy," he's shown the ability to convey a calm, compassionate presence in one film and transform into a manipulative villain in another. In Alison Locke's directorial debut "The Apology," Roache has the opportunity to explore both ends of the spectrum, playing a likable character who slowly starts to reveal his true, dastardly self.

Warning! Spoilers for Detective Comics #1066Batman has had dozens of enemies in his time-fighting crime, but none of those enemies have had such a direct link to Batman's trauma as Two-Face. DC Comics recently revealed that both the hero and villain had a life-changing event in the exact same alleyway.
Of all the supervillains Batman has encountered in his time protecting Gotham City, very few have any direct connection to Batman's history. Typically, the villains show up because of Batman, such as when Bane assaulted Gotham entirely because Batman was protecting it, or the very well-known relationship between Batman and Joker. Other villains, such as Scarecrow, Penguin, or Mr. Freeze came about due to circumstances entirely unrelated to Batman's existence. But DC has recently been revealing new details about Two-Face, from Two-Face's horrifying redesign to the fact Two-Face was actually born in the same alleyway Batman was.

The Dark Knight has a new blossoming universe in the live-action space with Matt Reeves' The Batman universe (and the spinoffs it will include). While the latest movie showed a hero still learning the ropes, the comics have also demonstrated that he isn't perfect.
Batman is an extremely capable crime fighter, but his imperfections -- like his paranoia -- have proven to be his downfall as well as for those around him. The demise of Jason Todd is perhaps Bruce Wayne's most iconic mistake, but there are several others spanning his early and veteran years on the streets of Gotham.

Warning! Contains Spoilers for Nightwing Annual (2022) #1Nightwing is the first and arguably the best apprentice that Batman has had, and the Dark Knight's influence on his ward is so strong that Nightwing's newest villain shares many similarities with his mentor's enemy, Hush. But Bruce Wayne isn't the only person who made Dick Grayson the man he is today, a lot of that credit goes to Alfred Pennyworth. In a terrifying twist, Nightwing's new villain mirrors that relationship with his own butler.
Nightwing is one of the greatest and brightest heroes to exist and has friends reaching across almost the entire DC Universe. The Batman heavily teased that a future sequel would feature Hush as its main villain, but there's no way that The Batman 2 can pay it off. Although not much is known about the highly anticipated sequel, its fairly blatant Hush teases have generated a lot of excitement among audiences for the next installment. While the prospect of having Hush appear in a live-action Batman film is exciting, there is one big reason that it shouldn't happen in The Batman 2.
The Riddler is the main villain in The Batman, a character who wears a crudely put-together mask as he attempts to terrorize Gotham due to a personal vendetta against the Wayne family. Hush wouldn't work in The Batman 2, as the villain is a character who wears a crudely put-together mask as he attempts to terrorize Gotham due to a personal vendetta against the Wayne family. Having similar backstories is one thing,...

The Batman presents the latest cinematic Dark Knight, and he's the only one that will be appearing on screen in the next few years. More likely follow as the Dceu explores the multiverse. The most powerful Batman variants in DC Comics could appear in live-action, including some that are arguably the most powerful beings in the multiverse.
Endless Batman variants exist both in mainline DC Comics continuity and in Elseworlds tales from alternate realities. Some take on attributes from other DC characters like Green Lantern, while others are dark versions of Batman taken to extremes. Several appear in other media already and could very well appear again in future movies and streaming series.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Flashpoint Beyond #6Dc Comics has revealed the final fate of the Flashpoint reality, the darker alternate timeline created by Barry Allen's Flash when he tried to go back in time and save his mother. While Barry was able to somewhat restore the timeline (aside from notable changes made by Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan resulting in the New 52), the Flashpoint Universe remained with its residents such as Thomas Wayne's Batman existing as living paradoxes. However, the primary DC Universe's Batman has taken a major risk to save these alternate versions of his parents as seen in the final issue of Flashpoint Beyond.
Previously, Batman's father Thomas Wayne found himself back in the Flashpoint Universe, the same timeline where Bruce dies and Thomas lived alongside his wife Martha who became the Joker in her grief. Assuming that his son's reality has somehow disappeared once more,...

Ordinarily, live-action superhero movies tend to receive all the press coverage and that has mostly been the case in 2022. However, the DC League Of Super-Pets managed to break the norm thanks to a star-studded cast and a magnificent storyline. As such, the movie went on to gross 193.7 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). Genre fans will thus be hoping that the animated movies continue to make headlines like the recent Warner Bros. offering.
So, what are some other amazing superhero animated movies like DC League Of Super-Pets? In general, DC tends to fair much better in the animated department than Marvel, but that doesn’t mean Spider-Man and company are left far behind. Redditors have named what they believe are the greatest-ever movies in this category.
