Chicago Med Should Revisit Character Written Out Before Series Premiere
Image
Chicago Med originated as a backdoor pilot on Chicago Fire, much like how Chicago P.D. began a few years prior.

At the time, we were introduced to many new faces at Med, including one that was noticeably absent when Chicago Med Season 1 arrived the following fall.

Maybe now is the perfect time to revisit Dr. Hannah Tramble, an ER doctor played by actress Laurie Holden.

(NBC/Screenshot)

Yes, the same Laurie Holden who played Andrea Harrison so impressively on The Walking Dead.

After I watched her on the Chicago Med backdoor pilot, I was excited to see what she could do as a primary character in the new One Chicago show.

However, that excitement was short-lived when I later saw the announcement that Holden was leaving the project due to family reasons.

(NBC/Screenshot) Laurie Holden Was Great As Dr. Hannah Tramble On Chicago Fire

M*A*S*H Star Alan Alda Pays Tribute to Loretta Swit: 'More Than Acting Her Part, She Created It'
Image
M*A*S*H star and Hollywood icon Alan Alda says "she created" her unforgettable role while discussing Loretta Swit's impact on the series.

Per Deadline, Alda offered up a touching tribute to the late Swit on social media, noting that his fellow M*A*S*H star was "a supremely talented actor" who "deserved all her 10 Emmy nominations and her 2 wins. But more than acting her part, she created it." Alda explained, "She worked hard In showing the writing staff how they could turn the character from a one joke sexist stereotype into a real person — with real feelings and ambitions. We celebrated the day the script came out listing her character not as Hot Lips, but as Margaret. Loretta made the most of her time here."

Based on Richard Hooker's 1968 novel, Mash: A Novel About Three Army Doctors, the long-running M*A*S*H television series...

Beyond the Gates May 22: Why Kat Needs to Drop Everything and Become a Detective
Image
In the Thursday, May 22 episode of Beyond the Gates, Anita had Naomi meet Tracy and then told her old groupmate about the Articulettes reunion she hopes will happen. Ashley and Derek hashed out their issues. Leslie went shopping in Eva’s luxury hotel room. Kat read her parents into her investigation of Leslie and Eva. And then she gets a huge lead that could break this whole attempted murder wide open.

Kat Richardson, Private Eye

Kat (Colby Muhammad) might want to either take up detective-ing as a side hustle or drop the business angle altogether and explore a true crime career. For the most part, she’s really good at this. Sure, she tends to stubbornly stick to the narrative she’s pushing. And that’s that Eva (Ambyr Michelle) was 100% in on Leslie’s revenge agenda. Kat doesn’t want to even think about Eva not having anything to do with Laura’s hit-and-run,...

Five ‘South Park’ Characters Who Disappeared Without Explanation
Image
Kenny has notoriously died over 100 times, but many other South Park characters have been killed off over the years after Matt Stone and Trey Parker seemingly grow bored of them. Pip is crushed by Barbra Streisand, Ms. Crabtree is murdered by a serial killer and Ms. Choksondik swallows brine shrimp — just to name a few.

But plenty of other once-prominent characters have disappeared without explanation, and usually without fanfare. Or else they’ve been demoted to the point where they haven’t spoken in years, appearing only in crowd shots.

Here are five South Park characters, once pretty integral to the show, that haven’t been heard from in far too long. Maybe someone should check in on them?

5 Nurse Gollum

Nurse Gollum first arrives in the Season Two’s “Conjoined Fetus Lady” as the new school nurse. She appears a bit later in Season Two in “Roger Ebert Should...

50 Years On, Michael Douglas Reflects On His Epic Journey Making ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’: “The Movie Reflects What’s Happening In America”
Image
Exclusive: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the New Hollywood classic adapted from Ken Kesey’s book, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a special screening today [21st] at the Cannes Film Festival and a stateside re-release by Fathom Entertainment in July.

Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz served as producers of Miloš Forman’s anti-establishment firecracker, which remains one of just three movies ever to win all five major Academy Awards — Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay. Thirteen years in the making and knocked back by countless A-list actors and studios, the movie overcame myriad challenges to become 1975’s second highest-grossing U.S. film (over $100 million worldwide), beaten only by Jaws. Douglas was only 31 at the time.

Jack Nicholson serves as Randle McMurphy, a role that had been played by Douglas’ father Kirk in the Broadway play version. Randall is a rebellious new patient at a mental institution who...

A Fan Favorite The Pitt Star Doesn't Remember Crossing Paths With Noah Wyle On ER
Image
There's a lot to love about the new hit Max medical drama "The Pitt." The series was created by "ER" producer R. Scott Gemmill and follows one 15-hour shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room, led by senior attending Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and charge nurse Dana Evans (Katherine Lanasa).

Each episode is one hour in the shift, making for an incredible sense of urgency that mimics the life-or-death nature of actually being in an emergency situation, and having some cast members with real-life experience helps keep it all authentic. In addition to casting medical professionals as some of the background actors, there are also some former "ER" stars, like Wyle and Shawn Hatosy, who plays night shift attending Dr. Jack Abbott. And, it turns out, everyone's favorite charge nurse also had a short stint on the classic NBC series.

Lanasa appeared in the season...

Michael Waxman on Chicago Med: Who is the man honored during new episode?
Oliver Platt, Steven Weber, Marlyne Barrett, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Jessy Schram in Chicago Med (2015)
Many Chicago Med fans asked, “Who is Michael Waxman?” after the new episode.

The questions come from a post-show credits scene honoring him.

“In Memory of Michael Waxman,” read the title card at the end of Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 18 (Together One Last Time) on April 16.

Waxman passed away earlier in April; the latest episode paid tribute to his association with the show.

Previous cast members have also left messages for and about him on social media.

“If you enjoy Chicago Med it’s because from Day One Michael Waxman pushed to make the show the best it could be and worked tirelessly to keep improving episode after episode, season after season. He loved his job,” wrote actor Colin Donnell.

“And as much as he loved making movies and television, it was a distant second to being on his ranch in Texas surrounded by his family. Getting to spend four...

Getting Down to Business on the April 18 Beyond the Gates
Image
Business talk and nostalgic reflections ruled the Friday, April 18 episode of Beyond the Gates. While Anita played the piano and waxed poetic about her Articulettes days to Naomi, others got down-and-dirty talking about business. Pamela brainstormed an idea that could give Dani new life. Chelsea and Kat debated a potentially controversial decision. Joey Armstrong revealed the truth about why he desperately wanted leverage over Doug.

Truths and Targets

Joey (Jon Lindstrom) sure is getting impatient with Dr. Doug McBride (Jason Graham), who’s doing whatever he can to prevent himself from heading back to Joey’s poker tables. He’s in deep and knows he needs to pay Joey back. But little does he know why Joey wants Dougie to owe him everything. He finally revealed it’s because he wanted Vanessa’s real estate firm — it’s the perfect setup to launder his shady money.

However, there has to be more to it.

Shocking Chicago Fire news hit on Wednesday night.

Two series regulars will leave Firehouse 51 at the end of the season.

The revelation will lead to disappointed fans, especially due to the reasoning behind it.

Budget cuts are leading to a smaller Chicago Fire Season 14 cast.

That’s assuming that Chicago Fire gets renewed, but signs point in a positive direction.

As for the cast, two primary characters are done with the show.

Chicago Fire loses Carver and Ritter

Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) and Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) will not return to the Chicago Fire cast.

Their final episodes will air in the coming weeks as NBC wraps up Season 13 of the hit drama.

This is the third season for Lockett and the seventh season for Kyri.

Carver and Ritter have seen less screen time during Season 13 than in the past. Still, they are important characters on the show, and Firehouse...

The show has proven to be so popular on Paramount+ that a fourth season was announced in Variety as far back as April of 2024. As of this morning, production on the fourth season of "Strange New Worlds" has officially begun, according to a post on...

The journey to a Dead Boy Detectives fan billboard
Image
The journey to placing a Dead Boy Detectives fan billboard next to the Netflix office in Los Angeles, CA, was a long one, but fans were determined to make it happen.

I call it a journey because it was quite a path from a group of fans creating a Discord server to fundraising and commissioning two Dead Boy Detectives billboards in downtown LA. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Dead Boy Detectives is a show about two teen (dead) boys who create a detective agency to solve the dilemmas of wayward spirits on Earth while dodging death in the process.

Despite garnering rave reviews and a dedicated fanbase, it was canceled by Netflix in August 2024.

That’s when the Dbda community got to work.

After consulting with Outfront Media and opening a GoFundMe to raise the necessary funds, this dedicated group of fans established their first Save Dead Boy Detectives billboard in Los Angeles,...

‘Late Shift’ Review: Leonie Benesch Is Simply Marvelous As A Nurse On The Edge In Petra Volpe’s Urgent Medical Drama – Berlin Film Festival
Image
An elderly woman dies, and her three adult sons cling to each other, weeping, before turning on the duty nurse. She hadn’t seen their mother once, they blurt to the doctor. It wouldn’t have made any difference; there is nothing Nurse Floria (Leonie Benesch) could have done to prevent a pulmonary embolism. But the nurse flinches. It’s true. There are just two of them on the late shift and a full ward of 26 patients: Even in Switzerland, which has arguably the best health service in the world, there are serious staff shortages. The dead woman was designated last on her round. Floria failed her.

Petra Volpe’s busy, urgent cancer-ward procedural is exactly what it says it is: a shift in the life of a nurse, a pile of incidents encountered at speed. Judith Kaufmann’s camera races behind and around Floria, looking intermittently rough: what doesn...

The Legal Drama Behind Max’s Spiritual 'ER' Spin-Off 'The Pitt'
Image
Making its Max debut on January 9, 2025, HBO's sobering new medical drama The Pitt quickly courted public controversy. The spiritual successor to ER stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Rabinavitch, a dedicated healthcare professional navigating personal issues and workplace problems with his fellow staffers. Despite drawing praise for its unflinching realism, The Pitt is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Five months before The Pitt premiered, ER creator Michael Crichton's estate sued HBO for making an unauthorized "ER reboot." While there's no such thing as bad publicity, Warner Bros. and HBO have doubled down on its new medical drama and filed a motion to throw out the lawsuit and keep the show on air. With both sides of the legal argument making legitimate cases, it's time to get to the bottom of the controversial drama behind The Pitt.

General Hospital Spoilers February 14: What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Image
Friday is Valentine’s Day, and, at first glance, it doesn’t seem like there’s much love and romance in the General Hospital spoilers for the February 14, 2025, episode. Hopefully, a romantic surprise or two will be in store, especially with Ava, who receives an offer, and Ric, who nurses reservations.

Next on General Hospital

There has been so much death and drama on Gh the last few months that we hope it won’t overshadow Valentine’s Day. It would be nice if the show served up some romance along with the dramatic, intense, and antagonistic moments. Thankfully, the teasers suggest there could be good news ahead — at least for Ava (Maura West) — when she receives an offer.

Does Sonny (Maurice Benard) end the custody battle with Ava and make her an offer she can’t refuse? If this is the case, then she’ll be able to co-parent...

Dexter: Original Sin episode 5 recap and review: F is for F**k-Up
Image
I love when a new episode of a show picks up right where the previous episode left off, and that’s what we have here, my friends. Remember, last week in Dexter: Original Sin episode 4, Mad Dog (Joe Pantoliano) awoke on Dexter’s (Patrick Gibson) kill table and managed to break free and escape before getting blindsided by a truck while running down the street, and subsequently killed, leaving Dex in his first real “Oh S**T” moment.

In this week’s episode 5 recap, we’ll follow everything that happens in the wake of Dexter’s kill gone wrong, including a major f**k-up on Harry’s (Christian Slater) part in court that ultimately sets a killer free, and equips Dexter with the surge of power he needs to convince Harry to set him free. Spoilers below.

Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 5 Recap: Harry's Levi Reed Decision & 9 Other Story Reveals
Image
Harry Morgan (Christian Slater) is slowly losing control over Dexter (Patrick Gibson), and Dexter: Original Sin episode 5 only made that problem worse. The cast of Dexter: Original Sin is fairly large, and each of its characters is so well-developed that they all have interesting storylines to follow every week. While that does make for great television, it also means it can be hard to keep up with everything happening at the same time. Some viewers may need a recap of all the bloodshed and family drama Dexter and the Morgans went through.

Original Sin episode 5 is, as the title suggests, all about mistakes. Dexter had to face the consequences of his failed attempt to kill Mad-Dog (Joe Pantoliano). That meant he spent a large chunk of the episode grounded by Harry Morgan, but it also gave him a chance to connect with Deb (Molly Brown) on a deeper level.

Every Actor Who's Played Nosferatu, Ranked
Image
Robert Eggers is considered one of the best horror writer-directors of our time. With movies like The Witch and The Lighthouse behind him, his latest idea to remake Nosferatu had horror fans with high expectations. And although the story behind Nosferatu is well-known, from Bram Stoker's book dating back to 1897 to the countless Dracula adaptations over the decades since 1922, this 2024 iteration was able to change some key elements in how it's told. Most notably, it drastically updated how Count Orlok looks and sounds.

Bill Skarsgård definitely deserves a lot of credit for the effectiveness of this new version of the vampire. While the art and makeup departments also did an incredible job on their end, the actor managed to bring a much-needed freshness to the role. His Orlok strongly contrasts with previous versions of the villain and further cements Skarsgård's reputation as a good choice when recasting iconic horror monsters,...

Dexter: Original Sin Episodes 2 & 3 Review - Patrick Gibson Delivers A Killer Dexter Performance In A Vintage Double-Episode
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episodes 2 & 3.

Following an overstuffed premiere episode, Dexter: Original Sin episodes 2 and 3, "Kid in a Candy Store" and "Miami Vice", have found a nostalgic flow on par with the original series. While Dexter: Original Sin episode 1 "And in the Beginning..." covered several expected narrative beats from Dexter season 1, it failed to effectively establish a natural balance between its old characters and new faces.

With the double-episode drop of Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series not only honors its classic predecessor but provides tangible hints that it could actually fill in the large shoes left by the Michael C. Hall-led classic.

Dexter: Original Sin explores the origins of Dexter Morgan as he transitions from student to serial killer in 1991 Miami. Guided by his father, Dexter channels his dark urges through a moral code while starting a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

15 Best Movie Villains Of All Time
Image
A great hero is nothing without an equally compelling villain spurring them into action, and across the history of cinema, there have been some truly awesome antagonists. From sadistic superiors to murderous maniacs, movie villains come in all shapes and sizes, as the dark depravity and calculated motivations of the bad guys have brought movies to life and made for truly nail-biting viewing. With villains often representing a dark subversion of the hero’s personality, in some cases, the antagonist has endured far more than the protagonist in mainstream popular culture.

Many of the best movies ever made gained their acclaim because of the villains at the heart of their stories, whose unsettling and intriguing nature made audiences question their own morality and beliefs. From an actor’s perspective, playing a villain is often more interesting, as their depraved nature and underhanded tactics keep things exciting. While it’s true...

Dandadan Episode 10 Delivers Game-Changing Reveals and Expands Its Bizarre World
Image
Dandadan is making a mark in the shonen landscape as an anime that thrives on chaos and fast-paced storytelling. The shonen took that to a whole new level by delivering an action-packed Episode 9 that left the audience gasping for air by the time it ended. Dandadan's ninth episode centered around Okarun, Momo, and the newly transformed yokai-hybrid Aira facing off against the Serpos, Dover Demon, and Nessie. The episode ended with the trio running naked down the school hallway, exposed to the entire school.

While Dandadan’s relentless energy has been a highlight – for better or for worse – Episode 10, entitled "Have You Ever Seen a Cattle Mutilation?," flips the script and offers a more deliberate pace that doesn’t sacrifice its quirky charm. The out-of-this-world comedy still lands, while nice character moments give this episode enough narrative beats to relieve it from the 'transitional episode' label.

The "First Lady of Star Trek" is everywhere in Strange New Worlds
Image
Majel Barrett Roddenberry made a lasting impact on Star Trek. One of the most visible ways she did so was through her numerous roles across various iterations of the franchise. Although Barrett's personal contributions ended after the posthumous release of 2009's Star Trek film, the legacies of many of her roles have been carried on in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

So far, Strange New Worlds has brought back three of Barrett's roles: Number One (Rebecca Romijn), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) and the voice of the Enterprise computer (Alex Kapp). Although it may seem odd to include the voice of the computer on that list, that is actually the "character" Barrett portrayed the most, and Alex Kapp manages to keep the same general "sound."

Given that Strange New Worlds is a prequel to the original Star Trek from 1966, it is no surprise that the Majel Barrett characters featured are her roles from Tos.

If It Happens, Star Trek 4 Can Finally Introduce The Original Series Character Teased 15 Years Ago
Image
Star Trek 4 has been delayed for over 8 years, but if it happens, the fourth J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek movie can finally introduce Nurse Christine Chapel. Abrams successfully rebooted Star Trek in 2009 and proved that the iconic characters from Star Trek: The Original Series could be recast with younger actors. However, one significant Tos character who hasn't been seen in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek is Nurse Chapel.

Originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, Nurse Chapel was the main assistant to USS Enterprise Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley) in Star Trek: The Original Series. Chapel was primarily known for her unrequited love for Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy). However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has revitalized Nurse Chapel. Played by Jess Bush, Strange New Worlds has given Chapel a richer character and more agency so that Christine is now a brilliant, resourceful, and determined Starfleet Officer who...

Jack Black's Favorite Movie Is A 1970s Dark Comedy That Has Certainly Influenced His Most Famous Roles
Image
Jack Black is best known for playing larger-than-life characters in comedy movies, which may not be surprising, as his favorite movie is a dark comedy about an eclectic mix of unusual characters. Jack Black has had a varied career, beginning as a child actor before branching into music with his band, Tenacious D. Black has become an established actor over the past decade, appearing in a more varied range of movies, including standout roles in King Kong and The Holiday. That said, even Jack Black's underrated movies tend to feature his signature zany and exaggerated comedy.

Jack Black's career began with small roles on TV shows like The X-Files, but he quickly rose to fame by playing slightly immature but comedic characters. Still, these were not the roles he connected to, with Black preferring characters with more emotional depth. Jack Black's best roles are the ones that give him a lot of freedom,...

10 Bad Movies That Couldn't Be Saved By Great Special Effects

Some bad movies just cant be saved by great effects. Whether its CGI or practical, visual effects are considered good when they are compelling, realistic, or are simply eye-catching.

Plenty of terrible movies have brilliant effects. However, this doesnt make up for a lack of creative storytelling, intriguing characters, or logic. Even if a films appearance is stellar, it doesnt always convince audiences that its a worthwhile watch.

Jonathan Majors Settles in Assault and Defamation Lawsuit
Image
Actor Jonathan Majors has reportedly settled a lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, stemming from their highly-publicized trial, where the actor was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment. Jabbari filed the lawsuit in March 2024, stemming from allegations on Majors' end that he had never physically assaulted a woman before.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jabbari's lawyer Brittany Henderson claims that the lawsuit was "favorably settled" after legal representatives for both parties appeared in court together to say that a deal had been reached. Terms of the agreement have ultimately, however, not been disclosed, and there has been no official comment from Majors on the matter.

It all began with Majors' March 25, 2023, arrest for domestic violence in New York City, following an incident that allegedly occured between Jabbari and the actor in a chauffeured car earlier that day. The actor was found guilty on two of...

Should Star Trek: Strange New Worlds bring romance to Captain Pike and Number One?
Image
In the first pilot for Star Trek: The Original Series, "The Cage," Captain Christopher Pike, played by Jeffrey Hunter, helmed with Enterprise with his Number One played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry. During Pike's time on Talos IV, he is being forced to choose a mate. His choices are Number One, Yeoman Colt or Vina. During that time, Pike learns that Number One has fantasies about him, and now that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has brought both Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Number One (Rebecca Romjin) back, Screenrant suggests that there might be a future romance between the two because of what was "teased" in The Original Series.

But one character having fantasies about the other isn't really teasing a romance. It's more like unrequited love or just simply fantasies because the pair worked so closely together. It's not odd for couples that never become couples to have fantasies about one another.

Nurse Chapel Has A Blink-And-You'll-Miss-It Cameo In Star Trek's 2009 Movie Reboot
Image
Nurse Christine Chapel has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in the 2009 Star Trek movie. Nurse Chapel was a fixture of Dr. Leonard McCoy's (DeForest Kelley) sickbay, often standing by to provide assistance (or pine after Leonard Nimoy's Spock) in 25 episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series. In Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Dr. Christine Chapel easily falls into her old role as McCoy's trusted nurse. The prequel Star Trek: Strange New Worlds improves Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), making her a brilliant scientist with her own character arc.
