How ‘Blindspotting’ Got Dante Basco to Revisit His ‘Hook’ Legacy in Episode 4
Image
The latest episode of “Blindspotting” gave millennial fans something they never thought they’d get to see: Dante Basco essentially reprising the role of Rufio, leader of the Lost Boys in Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” — even if it was at a Halloween party.

The installment, titled “By Hook or by Crook,” followed as Jacque (April Absynth) invited her new beau Cuddie (Lance Holloway) to her family’s home in Daly City for a Halloween party. After being incorrectly advised by Trish (Jaylen Barron) into wearing a pirate costume to the event, Jacque freaks out upon arrival and reveals to Cuddie that her father is Dante Basco.

Given the actor’s history with pirates, Cuddie’s costume is understandably barred from the event. Though they try to hide it for a while, Basco eventually discovers the truth; leading to a “Hook”-esque sword fight between the men in Jacque’s life.

Film review: Lumpia with a Vengeance (2020) by Patricio Ginelsa
Image
Director Patricio Ginelsa returns with yet another food-driven film, “Lumpia with a Vengeance” (2020). Ginelsa first skyrocketed to fame with his Filipino-American home video-made-cult-classic, “Lumpia” (2002). Here, highschoolers fight off bullies with the help of a lumpia (Filipino eggrolls)-wielding superhero. This much-beloved flick ushered in its crowdfunded sequel today, featuring UFC fighter Mark Muñoz and longtime actors like Danny Trejo. “Lumpia with a Vengeance” is now making its festival rounds, winning the Audience Award at the Hawaii International Film Festival and a continental premiere at CAAMFest in April.

Lumpia with a Vengeance is screening at Asian American International Film Festival

Welcome to the Ordeal: First Official Trailer for 'Blindspotting' Series
Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs in Blindspotting (2018)
"You don't get to doubt my loyalty!" Starz has debuted an official trailer for the Blindspotting TV series, which will premiere on Starz starting in June. Blindspotting premiered at Sundance in 2018 and earned quite a bit of acclaim, but it's still being discovered by more people. This new show is executive produced by Rafael Casal & Daveed Diggs from the film, and Casal co-stars and is also working as the showrunner. Set right after the events of the film, the show focuses on Ashley, played by Jasmine Cephas Jones, Miles' partner who must now deal with the challenges of life after he ends up in prison. The cast includes Helen Hunt, Jaylen Barron, Ziggy Baitinger, April Absynth, and Andrew Chappelle. "This provocative and powerful narrative couldn't be more timely,...
