10 Amazing Anime Protagonists That Are Still Underrated
Image
When an anime protagonist is well-written and accomplishes incredible things, the community is bound to take notice and praise that character as one of the best leads in the medium. By now, anime has plenty of legendary protagonists, from Son Goku to Ash Ketchum and Naruto Uzumaki, and even antiheroes like Light Yagami. Still, there are many more anime protagonists who have plenty to offer but don't get much recognition for it.

Some of these underrated protagonists are due a little more credit, and some of them are due a lot more credit. Too often, they are underestimated or half-forgotten by the community, or get ignored in favor of a similar protagonist who's flashier and more prominent in the industry. However, if anime fans give these underated protagonists another look, they will realize how smart, noble, funny, or compelling these heroes actually are — or rather, how compelling they have always been.

10 Best Pink-Haired Maniacs in Anime, Ranked
Image
Pink hair is an undying trend found among anime characters, and anime and manga creators alike have been giving their heroines pink hair since Utena Tenjou from Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997), Chibi Usa from Sailor Moon (1992) and perhaps even earlier than that. Colorful hair is a trope so commonplace in anime that it's practically naturally occurring, as well as a big indicator as to which character in a line-up will end up being important.

Many pink-haired fan favorites, just like the beloved yet infamous "white-haired anime boy" archetype, often have a certain craziness to them that is either hidden by their charisma or becomes a part of it as the story progresses. Yuno Gasai, with her relentless love for Yukiteru in Future Diary, is a perfect example of a pink-haired anime maniac. And there are so many more to name that anime fans are sure to recognize anywhere.

The 10 Best Slice-of-Life Anime from the Last Five Years, Ranked
Image
Light-hearted themes, stories that strike a chord in the hearts, and characters who portray realism are what make a good slice-of-life anime tick. When the audience is more inclined to enjoy the simplicity of life, they prefer to tune into shows that are an interesting reflection of otherwise mundane things. Slice-of-life anime dont have that larger-than-life energy, nor are the stakes high; rather, these stories are about elevating soft subgenres and tones.

Luckily, there has been a steady supply of heartfelt slice-of-life anime that balances the action and high-profile franchise-dominated seasonal slate. Having said that, fortunately for anime fans, the last five years have produced several quality slice-of-life anime that have impressively blended other subgenres to treat fans with tender tales.

10 Shyest Anime Love Interests, Ranked
Image
Shy characters are popular among anime fans. Their timidity is often seen as preciously wholesome. There is no shortage of shy anime characters to love, but the best shy characters are bashful love interests. The shyest love interests aren't only sheepish in their day-to-day life, but are also adorably nervous around their intended partners. Even if they want to confess their feelings, their introverted natures often make their attempts in vain.

Despite this, shy love interests are even more beloved for the way they pine for their loved ones from afar. Another type of shy love interest is unaware of their admirers' interest and is even more bashful due to the ensuing misunderstandings. While some viewers may find their timidity annoying, avid fans agree that shy anime love interests are one of the best parts of their favorite anime romantic dynamics.

Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim (2010)
‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ Cast and Character Guide: Who Voices Who?
Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim (2010)
Scott Pilgrim is back, but not in the way anyone expected. The new Netflix animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is both a continuation of the “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” story and a complete recontextualization of what transpired, twisting and morphing the source material into something completely new. And who better to do it than the author responsible for creating “Scott Pilgrim” in the first place?

The anime “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off” is created by Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, and while it begins similarly to “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” a shocking twist at the end of Episode 1 soon takes this story in a different direction.

Edgar Wright, who co-wrote and directed the 2010 film adaptation “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” is involved in this new series as an executive producer and he also helped bring a big piece of the puzzle together: the cast.

Indeed, the entire...

What You Need to Know About ‘Kaguya-sama: Love Is War’ Before ‘The First Kiss That Never Ends’
Image
“Kaguya-sama: Love Is War” — both Aka Akasaka’s manga series and its animated series adaptation — is one of the greatest romantic comedies of the 21st century. Which is why a special Valentine’s Day theatrical platform for its first feature film, “The First Kiss That Never Ends” (a continuation of the storyline from the first three seasons of the series), makes so much sense.

Within the walls of the student council office, president Miyuki Shirogane and vice president Kaguya Shinomiya butt heads constantly, with each chapter serving as a bite-sized attack on one or the other’s emotional state. The whole goal for these kids is to trick the other into sacrificing their pride and confessing their love first, with a mountain of friends dragged in as tools and victims to (and sometimes even outright foiling) their extensively drawn out plans.

As good as the manga is, “Love Is War...
