James Hughes
James Hughes has directed over 200 actors, including Emmy® Winners and BAFTA Winners.

His films have screened at numerous Oscar Qualifying festivals.

He has been a Speaker for BAFTA and the Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles, where he taught a popular class on filmmaking, working alongside such luminaries as William Goldman.

His film The Velvet Abstract (2016) is narrated by the Emmy Winner Tobias Menzies, scored by Jean-Pascal Beintus, and edited by Patrick J. Don Vito. The film was invited by BAFTA to be part of an environmental day at the Princess Anne Theatre, where James was a Speaker on stage for a Q&A about the film. The film screened at over 100 international film festivals, winning 40 awards in the process.

James followed this with his BAFTA Qualifying film The Inuring (2017). It won 20 awards at 60 Film Festivals, a one in three win ratio. It was also selected as one of the 4 best films of the year at the Sky TV televised National Film Awards.

His short film, The Sands of Time (2020) screened at over 70 film festivals.

James followed this up with his short film When the Rain Sets In (2021) which was edited by the Oscar Nominated Editor Patrick J. Don Vito (Green Book : Sur les routes du sud (2018)).

His underwater adventure Sonar (2022) is now available to watch online.

His festival hit, the comedy short film Chairs (2023) starring the two BAFTA Winners Georgina Campbell and Akemnji Ndifornyen is the first short film in history to star two BAFTA winning lead actors.

James is now in post-production on his latest short film The Nomophobe (2025) starring Beau Gadsdon and Clara Paget.

His fiction film debut The Insect Life was announced in Variety and is now in development.
