Friday, February 10 – These Four New Horror Movies Released Today
Image
We’ve been tracking this week’s new releases all week long, with four horror movies debuting on Tuesday and two more debuting on Thursday. Believe it or not, we’re still not done.

Here are four more new horror movies released today, February 10, 2023!

For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.

First up, director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight, Long Lost) is back with She Came from the Woods, an ’80s-set summer camp slasher movie that’s now playing in theaters.

We don’t yet have a home video release date, but we expect one soon.

She Came from the Woods follows “a group of counsellors who accidentally unleash an ancient evil spirit on the last night of a summer camp. As the situation turns bloody, the group is forced to confront what stories are worth telling and what secrets are worth keeping.”

She Came from the Woods...

‘The Unsettling’ Review – Strong Performances Can’t Save This Lackluster Feature Debut
Image
Let’s hold a moment of silence for the presence wasted in writer and director Harry Owens’ feature debut, The Unsettling. Leading performances are admirable, but the tediously sluggish narrative is an ambiguous slog that culminates with the impact of a handkerchief slap. Owens’ themes feel indebted to Remi Weekes’ His House and Nikyatu Jusu’s Nanny — aligned with African horror tales on American soil — only to abandon subplot roots in a finale stricken by amnesia. The Unsettling is an unfortunate example of contemporary “Trauma Horror” trends and slow-burn A24 genre signatures, underselling both before rolling credits on what feels like unfinished business.

Abena (Zephani Idoko) and Kwame (Bambadjan Bamba) are a Ghanaian couple who’ve just suffered the loss of their daughter. Kwame books a Los Angeles vacation thanks to his friend Charley’s gracious deal on a quaint rental somewhere in the suburbs, away from tragic reminders of their lost child.

Scary Official Trailer for Indie Horror 'The Unsettling' by Harry Owens
Image
"Well I don't think it's a dream… I think it's here, in this house." Dark Sky Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror film titled The Unsettling, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Harry Owens. After premiering at festivals last year, it's finally getting an official release this year. Still recovering from every parent's worst nightmare, a couple seek a new life in picture-perfect suburban USA by traveling to Los Angeles. But the grief they bring with them finds a dark energy in the new home, and soon the promise of their new life turns into series of horrifying visions and strange dreamstate encounters with unspeakable evil… The house they rented slowly begins to stalk them, consuming their sorrow and trapping them in a nightmare. This stars Zephani Idoko, Bambadjan Bamba, Libby Munro, and Benedikt Sebastian. This trailer has some extra scary moments, especially around that dirty mirror.

Opening with an incredibly creepy scene featuring a woman walking slowly and methodically down a hallway, weapon in hand, shouting out for Henry – swiftly pulling back a sheet to… Hold on, let’s back up a minute. Because that’s what Eye Without a Face does – showing back to an earlier point in time as we meet Henry, an agoraphobic and anxious young man living in Los Angeles, who hacks into the webcams of various young women who inhabit the city. He watches over them in their daily lives, seeing himself as their guardian angel. Or is that guardian creep?

We’re in Rear Window territory with Eye Without a Face, though the plot device of a camera pointed...
