"Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget" is the highly anticipated sequel to the animated movie "Chicken Run" and will be released on Netflix next month. The sequel sees Ginger and Rocky facing a new and dangerous threat to chicken-kind, forcing them to put their own freedom at risk. The film takes place on a peaceful island sanctuary described as "Wakanda for chickens," where the chickens have created their own organic and idyllic world.

The director, Sam Fell, has explained that Mel Gibson was not brought back as the voice of Rocky in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget. Fell expressed that he is not concerned about the controversial headlines surrounding Zachary Levi, who voices Rocky in the sequel. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will be released by Netflix on 15 December 2023.

The director behind the upcoming animated sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Sam Fell, has offered some insight into why controversial Hollywood star Mel Gibson as replaced as the rooster, Rocky. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Fell explained why Gibson is not returning for the long-awaited Chicken Run follow-up, with the role instead being voiced by Shazam! star Zachary Levi.

“Mel was a fabulous choice for Rocky when he was this playboy rooster. He was a movie star and Rocky was a movie star. It was perfect. But now Rocky’s more vulnerable.

Arriving 23 years after the original, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget takes place in the aftermath of the first film. The chickens, led by Ginger and Rocky Rhodes, have escaped from the chicken farm and have settled down in safety at a bird sanctuary. But when news of menacing new practices at the chicken farm reaches their idyllic home, they must take drastic measures to protect their freedom and their fellow chickens. “Last time, we broke out of a chicken farm — this time, we’re breaking in,” Ginger says in the trailer.

Despite being a sequel, most of the film’s original voice cast is not featured in Dawn of the Nugget.

After years of waiting to come out of its shell, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is ready to hatch. Aardman‘s long-awaited sequel will premiere at the London Film Festival on October 14 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall as part of the festival’s annual Mayor of London gala. Additionally, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will screen in film houses across the UK, with the sequel’s Netflix global premiere set for December 15, 2023.

Coming over two decades after the first Chicken Run, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget picks up with Ginger having successfully escaped from Tweedy's farm in a daring and risky manner. Ginger has now discovered her ideal place – an idyllic island retreat where the entire flock can live in harmony, without any risks from humans.

Coming along twenty-three years after the release of the original Chicken Run, the sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will be released through the Netflix streaming service on December 15th – and even though that date is still six months away, Aardman Animations founder Peter Lord, producer Layla Herbert, and director Sam Fell shared some footage from the film at the Annecy International Film Festival.

As described by Deadline, the footage shown featured the utopian island chicken haven – described by Fell as a sort of “Chicken Wakanda” – created by heroine Ginger after she led the breakout from the Tweedy farm in late 1940s Britain (in the first movie).
