Began working in the U S Merchant Marine in 1980 as a deckhand on supply boats offshore in Louisiana and Texas. By 1986, he had worked his way up to the position of ship's Captain with a Master's license. During his 20 year career, he traveled around the world and visited over 30 different countries.
