Richard Canal

Richard Canal is an actor from Spain and the United States with experience in playwriting.
He has performed in a variety of theatre productions (including as Gaston in "Beauty and the Beast", Pirelli in "Sweeney Todd" and Caiaphas in "Jesus Christ Superstar"), voiceover projects (such as an advert for "Tom Clancy's The Division 2") and most recently made is on-screen debut in "Excursion" (2018), for which he was nominated at the US Hollywood International Golden Film Awards as an Outstanding Supporting Actor.
His recent performance in his solo show, "Cry, Blueberry" - which premiered in London in August 2017 and has had several sold-out runs since then - was praised as "very affecting ... full of grace and honesty" (Everything Theatre); "bold, brave and compelling ... captivating ... dynamic, charming and moving ... truly heartbreaking ... moving and valiant ... powerful enough to evoke an audible audience response ... a brutally honest and sincere confession ... profound and memorable" (LondonTheatre1); "a full theatrical experience" (The Play's the Thing UK); "wonderfully vivid ... where he makes his audience gasp and laugh - and perhaps weep the tears of our souls too" (Jewish Renaissance); and "with incredulous conviction and husky, deep American tones that were enough to hypnotise anyone and belong on the RSC stage" (The Open Door).
Richard also has a BA in International Human Rights and an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development.
