‘Fallout’ Review: Amazon’s Slick, Cynical Vision of the Post-Apocalypse Is a Ghoulish Adventure
Image
Lucy (Ella Purnell) has only been outside the relative safety of her vault for a few hours before the young, wide-eyed school teacher — who specializes in American History “with a focus on ethics!” — is attacked by a cockroach the size of an adult corgi. Technically, she’s spared the hand-to-leg combat thanks to an actual dog (a German Shepherd), who jumps out of the shadows, chomps down on the mutant insect, and makes a meal of the squealing, writhing creature. But the interaction is nonetheless indication of her predicament. Lucy, who’s lived her entire life in an underground society dictated by laws, common goals, and good manners, isn’t prepared to be out in this anarchic desert wasteland. Her bright blue jumpsuit may shield her from the radiation, but it won’t protect her from the parasites ready to pounce as soon as she lets down her guard.

So Lucy has a choice,...

American Horror Stories season 3: Lisa Rinna cast in anthology series
Image
Lisa Rinna is best known for playing the characters of Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives and Taylor McBride on Melrose Place… or at least she was, until she was featured on eight seasons of the reality series The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. That may be what most viewers recognize her from these days. But Rinna recently left that Real Housewives show, and now Deadline reports that she has signed on to appear in an episode of the Hulu horror anthology series American Horror Stories.

The episode Rinna will be in is titled Tapeworm, and most of the filming of that episode was already completed before Deadline confirmed her involvement. That’s the only information that’s available at this time.

American Horror Stories is a streaming series spin-off from FX’s long-running horror anthology series American Horror Story. Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck, the same...

“American Horror Stories” Season 3 – Lisa Rinna Starring in an Episode Titled “Tapeworm”
Image
Ryan Murphy’s spinoff “American Horror Stories” is coming back for Season 3, and Deadline reports this week that Lisa Rinna (“Real Housewives”) will appear in the new season.

Rinna will star in an episode of Season 3 titled “Tapeworm,” Deadline reports.

The site also notes, “Rinna has concluded most of the filming and is back in LA.”

The spinoff anthology features hour-long contained episodes, and it’s exclusively available through FX on Hulu. The new series mostly tells original stories unconnected to the main “AHS” series, though Season 1 was book-ended by a “Murder House” continuation. The show delves into horror myths, legends and lore, with many episodes featuring “AHS” stars.

“American Horror Stories” is created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The series premiered on July 15, 2021, and thus far 15 total episodes have aired across two seasons.

Stay tuned for more on “American Horror Stories” Season 3 as we learn it.

The spinoff...

Salem Horror Fest 2023 – 7 Movies We Watched at This Year’s Event
Image
While previous incarnations of Salem Horror Fest occured in tourist-heavy October, this year’s sixth installment smoothly shifted to two weekends in April. The official selections include 20 features and 37 shorts, along with repertory programming, celebrity guests, live podcasts, panels, after parties, and more.

Here’s what I saw at this year’s event…

Bury the Bride

After making his feature directorial debut with last year’s horror anthology Allegoria, Powerman 5000 frontman Spider One returns with Bury the Bride, exhibiting considerable growth as a filmmaker in a short span of time. He channels a redneck-fueled grit similar to his elder brother Rob Zombie’s ourve, particularly The Devil’s Rejects, coupled with Quentin Tarantino-esque idiosyncrasies.

The film follows bride-to-be June along with her older sister (co-writer Krsy Fox) and three of her closest friends into the California desert for a bachelorette party at a rural house owned by her mysterious fiance,...

Q&a: Cameron Cowperthwaite Discusses his Roles in American Horror Stories, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and More
Image
Actor Cameron Cowperthwaite is the subject of our latest Q&a, discussing his roles in the American Horror Story universe, playing Steven Hicks in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story for Netflix, and more!

After appearing in American Horror Story in 2017, you're back to the AHS universe in the American Horror Stories episode "Necro." Can you talk about your experience on set and what drew you to the character of Charlie?

First, I love working with Ryan and his team. Everyone rotates shows, bounces around, and sticks around because the projects are so good. So when he calls, it's exciting because you know the project is going to be something special, and you get to see some friends you might not have seen in years! Set feels a little bit like going to summer camp in that way. Every experience is so different, but that was one of my favorite set experiences of my career.

Dahmer
Dahmer Becomes Netflix's Biggest Series Debut
Dahmer
The promotional train for Dahmer may have started late, but the lack of publicity for the series has seemingly resulted in more interest.

Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story beat Netflix records in its first week on the streaming service.

After just five days available, it secured 196.2 million hours of viewership, allowing it to hit the #1 spot in several countries.

The numbers make Dahmer the highest first week of viewership for a series debut on Netflix.

Granted, the numbers were probably helped by the fact that the series dropped on a Wednesday instead of a Friday.

We'll have more concrete numbers when the show has been available for longer.

The series narrowly beat Inventing Anna, which netted 195.97 million hours viewed.

Squid Game, which became the streamer's most-watched show ever, kicked off with just over 63 million hours viewed.

The series is headlined by Evan Peters (American Horror Story), in a...

Dahmer Trailer: Evan Peters Headlines Grisly Netflix Thriller
Evan Peters
Netflix has unveiled the first look and premiere date for its highly anticipated limited series Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

The series is headlined by Evan Peters (American Horror Story), in a role that reunites the star with Ryan Murphy.

Netflix also revealed that the series will launch in less than a week.

The entire series premieres Wednesday, September 21.

"Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a series that exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade," the logline reads.

In addition to Peters, the cast includes Richard Jenkins (Lionel Dahmer), Molly Ringwald (Shari Dahmer), Michael Learned (Catherine Dahmer...

“American Horror Stories” Review – “Necro” Is a Meditation on Death and Trauma That Flatlines
Image
‘American Horror Story’ fails to punch above its weight with a deep, raw idea that’s unfortunately stuck in a shallow episode and grave.

“For a minute. For a thousand years. Forever.”

Horror is full of fascinating figures who make enthralling arguments for why the dead are more valuable than the living and the persecution that frequently follows this philosophy. Titles like Re-Animator, Deadgirl, The Autopsy of Jane Done, and so many others uniquely examine life, death, and the blurred lines in between the two. American Horror Stories’ “Necro” attempts to also bring grief and romance into the equation with this failed experiment that falls short in some seriously tone deaf ways, but still manages to scratch the surface of some compelling ideas.

“Necro” focuses on Sam, a passionate mortician who finds herself at a crossroads in life. Sam has to shoulder most of this episode and Madison Iseman rises...

Film Review: ‘Pledge’
Daniel Robbins
“Privilege comes with sacrifice” says one character to another in “Pledge” — exactly the kind of noble sentiment authority figures always voice to hush the protests of those about to be sacrificed. This third feature for director Daniel Robbins is no delicate flower of cinematic art, but a lean and mean shocker that tells its tale of collegiate hazing run amuck with brute efficiency. IFC Midnight gave the quasi-horror meller a limited theatrical run simultaneous with its VOD launch on Jan. 11.

It’s Rush Week, and freshmen David (screenwriter Zachary Weiner), Ethan (Philip Andre Botello), and Justin (Zachary Byrd) are hot to pledge up and party down. Well, really it’s just one of them who’s dead set on both activities: Black, bespectacled nerd Ethan and plus-sized nerd Justin understand they are probably not at the top of any fraternity’s wish list. They’d be happy to get drunk in peaceful social isolation,...

“Pledge” Makes Fraternities Even More Terrifying
Independent horror doesn’t need to go overboard when it comes to a premise. Just set the scare for something scary and then let the brutality commence. Simple is rarely a bad thing. The new indie fright flick Pledge has certainly figured out the secret sauce. A horror film set during fraternity pledging? Very little sounds more terrifying. So, watching young men suffer while trying to join a club may bring back fond memories for some, for plenty of others it sounds like literal torture, something the film just takes to the next level. The result is something slick and very compelling. The film is a horror/thriller hybrid set on a college campus. Justin (Zachery Byrd), Ethan (Phillip Andre Botello), and David (Zack Weiner) are a trio of nerdy friends looking to rush a fraternity. As they get rejected from frat after frat, despair on the part of Justin and Ethan sets in,...

Watch the Official Trailer for Pledge, Coming to Theaters and VOD on January 11th from IFC Midnight
What at first seems like standard hazing takes a lethal left turn for a trio of unsuspecting friends looking to join a sorority in IFC Midnight's unsettling trailer for Pledge.

Directed by Daniel Robbins, Pledge stars Phillip Andre Botello, Zachary Byrd, Zachary Weiner, Joe Gallagher, Jean-Louis Droulers, Erica Boozer, Aaron Dalla Villa, Cameron Cowperthwaite, and Jesse Pimentel. IFC Midnight will release Pledge in theaters and on VOD on January 11th.

Synopsis: "Three friends get the chance to live the college dream when they’re invited to join an elite fraternity—but first they’ll have to survive the hazing from hell. Freshman social misfits Ethan (Phillip Andre Botello), David (Zack Weiner), and Justin (Zachery Byrd) are desperate to improve their terminally uncool reputations by pledging one of their university’s prestigious Greek houses. When every frat on campus turns them down, they are unexpectedly recruited by a shadowy social club...

First Trailer for Fraternity Horror 'Pledge' Directed by Daniel Robbins
"Privilege comes with hard work." IFC Midnight has debuted the first official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Pledge, a much more horrifying take on the fraternity ritual of recruiting young university students. This premiered at Fantasia and Screamfest this year, and is hitting theaters at the beginning of January. Pledge is about a group of outcast college freshmen who decide to pledge an exclusive fraternity but soon realize there's more at stake than they could have ever imagined. The full cast includes Zachery Byrd, Aaron Dalla Villa, Zachary Weiner, Phillip Andre Botello, Cameron Cowperthwaite, Joe Gallagher, Jesse Pimentel, and Erica Boozer. I don't like fraternities much anyway, but this is taking the idea of hazing to the most extreme - literally turning it into a brutal cult horror film. Crazy frightening. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Daniel Robbins' Pledge, direct from YouTube: Three nerdy college freshmen,...

The story centers on three nerdy college freshmen, who have been rejected and ridiculed by just about every fraternity on campus, are invited to an off-campus to a party at a secluded mansion. There they are treated like princes by the resident brothers and the party is everything they dreamed college would be—beautiful women, drinking, and most importantly, a cool group of guys willing to accept them as one of their own.
