Charles Melton and Stephanie Hsu to Lead Voice Cast of Surf-Themed Animated Film ‘In Waves’ From Silex, Anonymous Content, Charades (Exclusive)

Fast-rising stars Charles Melton and Stephanie Hsu are set to headline the voice cast of “In Waves,” the California surf-themed animated feature adapted from illustrator Aj Dungo’s celebrated graphic memoir.

Described as an “unconditional first love story, and tale of loss and memories,” the film — produced by Silex Films, Charades and Anonymous Content — is directed Phuong Mai Nguyen, a former student of French animation schools Gobelins and La Poudrière. Phuong Mai helmed episodes of the Silex-produced animated series “Brazen” and was Oscar-shortlisted for her short “My Home.”

Charades and Anonymous Content will show a promo-reel to buyers at the upcoming Cannes market.

Two of France’s fastest-rising young stars, Lyna Khoudri and Rio Vega, will lead the French voice cast of animated feature “In Waves,” an unconditional first love story, and tale of loss and memories adapting American illustrator Aj Dungo’s same-titled multi-prized graphic novel.

An anticipated banner prestige animation title from Paris-based Silex Films, “In Waves” lead producer, the feature also marks the first animated co-production of both Anonymous Content and Charades, behind sales of Jeremy Clapin’s “I Lost My Body” and Mamoru Hosoda’s “Mirai,” both Oscar nominated titles.

Cyber Bullying French Drama ‘Stalk’ Bought by HBO Latin America, Rai (Exclusive)

“Stalk,” Simon Bouisson’s timely French show tackling cyber spying and bullying, has lured a flurry of top TV channels across the world.

Produced by Priscilla Bertin and Judith Nora at Silex Films, the half-hour psychological thriller series was a big hit on France Televisions’s platform Slash and later aired on the broadcaster’s linear channel France 2 in the slot following “Call My Agent! The second season, which won best half-hour series and best music (for Paul Sabin) at La Rochelle TV Festival, recently premiered.

FranceTV Distribution, the commercial arm of the broadcaster, has sold the first two seasons to HB0 Latin America, Gsn in Russia and Shahid in the Middle East. South Korea’s Navel picked up season one, while the second season has been picked up by Wdr and Sony in Germany, Rai Play in Italy and Ici tou.tv in Canada.

Mediawan-Owned Storia Television Teams With French Broadcaster on Period Family Saga (Exclusive)

Mediawan-owned Storia Television is teaming up with French public broadcaster France Televisions on “Et la montagne fleurira,” an ambitious period drama which starts to shoot today, May 19, on the French Riviera.

Eléonore Faucher, whose feature debut “A Common Thread” won Cannes’ Critics’ Week in 2004, wrote and directs the series. Faucher most recently helmed the crime mystery “La Maladroite” with Isabelle Carré (“De Gaulle”) and Émilie Dequenne (“Love Affair(s)).”

Based on Françoise Bourdon’s novel “La Mas des Tilleuls,” the series is a six-part family saga set in 1837 in Provence and follows a man, Jean-Baptiste, who was banned from this childhood home by his father after being wrongfully accused of having abused his step mother, Seraphine. Jean-Baptiste runs away to live with his aunt and eventually become a merchant of rare flowers and finds love with Lila. Silex to Produce Millennials-Skewing Series ‘Stalk’ for France Televisions
Silex, the up-and-coming Parisian production banner, is producing “Stalk,” a high-concept, contemporary series skewing millennials for France.tv, the streaming service of French broadcasting group France Televisions. The series was co-created, co-writen and will be directed by Simon Bouisson, who previously helmed the critically acclaimed web series “Wei or Die.”

Written by Bouisson and Jean-Charles Paugam, “Stalk” follows the rise and fall of Lux, an 18 year-old hacker who got hazed and humiliated by the coolest students during his first days at a prestigious engineering school and sets off to take his revenge. His plan consists in cyber-stalking them, hacking their phones and computers to discover their secrets and integrate their clan to ultimately manipulate them.

Priscilla Bertin and Judith Nora, who are producing at Silex Films, described “Stalk” as a psychological drama featuring an ultra-smart protagonist similar to Jesse Eisenberg in “The Social Network.”
