Janaé Rachel Ballot is a writer, director, and producer from Beverly Hills, California. Raised in an entertainment family with roots dating back to Old Hollywood - including collaborations with icons such as Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Lana Turner, and Shirley Temple - she entered the industry as a dancer and actress at the age of four.
At 17, Ballot transitioned from projecting 35mm film and editing to developing a passion for screenwriting, directing and producing while learning from seasoned filmmakers and department heads across film and television. She wrote and directed the satirical pilot Managed, which screened at festivals, and led to several short films and music videos that she worked on annually as part of a collaborative creative venture.
Her directorial feature debut, Dissociated Me, is a hybrid comedy/drama based on true events from her life - blending fiction and documentary to explore memory, authorship, and the complexities of being human. The film was produced in collaboration with film editor Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir, Matthew Monelli, and Savannah Ballot.
Ballot loves to select projects with patience and emotional clarity, mixing originality with familiarity. She believes her creative gifts are guided by God.
