Rush is known for her performances in several critically acclaimed projects, including Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” for which she shared a SAG Award nomination for outstanding cast, as well as Apple TV+’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” opposite Dakota Johnson and Cooper Raiff. Exclusive: Black Bear’s management arm has signed writer, director, actor, and producer Jordan Firstman, whose credits include Sundance 2023 black comedy Rotting in the Sun.

Firstman first rose to prominence by sharing short skits, impressions, and impersonations on Instagram Live during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is also known for writing for Alia Shawkat’s Search Party and he was a consulting producer on Netflix’s animated series Big Mouth. As a filmmaker, Firstman directed the narrative short Men Don’t Whisper, which was shortlisted for the Grand Jury Prize at both Sundance and SXSW in 2018. He has also written for Comedy Central’s The Other Two and directed multiple episodes of the Peabody-nominated Sundance TV series This Close.

On the acting side, Firstman joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 via Ms. Marvel on Disney+. He also recently appeared in FX’s Dave and the Netflix comedy You People with Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy.

Following her stay at the White Lotus, Meghann Fahy feels bad for kicking Jennifer Coolidge while she was down.

The Emmy Award nominee recently recalled filming the Season 2 finale of Mike White‘s hit HBO series and accidentally kicking her co-star in the scene where Fahy’s Daphne discovered the dead body of Coolidge’s Tanya floating in the ocean.

“She did a lot of actually floating down in water,” she noted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “And when we were shooting it, I did actually kick her in the face at one point. I felt so bad.

“They wanted to get a shot under the water of my foot making contact with her body, but I couldn’t see where her body was,” explained Fahy. “So she was just like, floating, waiting for my foot to like enter her general space. And I hit her in the face by accident.

It's been a busy last year for Sydney Sweeney, who has starred alongside Glen Powell in Anyone But You, and also in the major comic book misfire, Madame Web. Alongside those flicks comes a major genre switch. Immaculate, the horror flick in which Sweeney stars opposite lvaro Morte and Simona Tabasco, has climbed into the top 10 worldwide chart on Prime Video. Immaculate follows Ceceilia (Sweeney), a woman of devout faith who is warmly welcomed into the picture-perfect Italian countryside where she is offered a new role in an illustrious covenant. But, it quickly becomes clear to Cecilia that her new home harbors dark and horrifying secrets. In addition to Sweeney, Morte, and Tabasco, Immaculate also stars Bendetta Porcaroli and Giorgio Colangeli, and the film currently sits at a 71% score from critics and a 59% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.

Due to technical difficulties, the Parks and Recreation alum says she hasn’t seen the Mike White-created series.

“I still haven’t, but I’m going to,” Plaza said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. I couldn’t figure out the password and I usually just give up when I can’t figure out the passwords. I just can’t handle things like that.”

Plaza said that she has requested DVDs of the series to watch it, adding, “I’d love a DVD, but they don’t send DVD sets anymore. I ask them every time.”

Black Bear’s management arm has signed Austrian filmmaking duo Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the directing team behind the folk horror film, “The Devil’s Bath.” Their latest production competed at this year’s Berlinale and was nominated for a Golden Bear. The film, which Variety called “beautiful” and “gripping in its austerity,” swept the Austrian Film Awards and was recently selected as Austria’s official entry for Best International Feature Film at next year’s Oscars.

Franz and Fiala first attracted attention by writing and directing the horror hit “Goodnight Mommy,” which was selected as Austria’s official submission to the 2014 Academy Awards, inspiring an English-language remake starring Naomi Watts in 2022. The pair went on to write and direct “The Lodge” starring Riley Keough, which premiered at Sundance and was acquired by Neon in 2019.

Black Bear’s management arm has signed Mikko Mäkelä, the Finnish-British writer and director of “Sebastian.” Mäkelä is a rising force in international queer cinema having made movies that explore sexuality and identity.

Mäkelä’s directorial debut “A Moment in the Reeds” premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and screened at nearly a hundred festivals worldwide, including Göteborg Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and Frameline in San Francisco. The film was nominated for the “Discovery Award” at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards.

Mäkelä’s sophomore feature, “Sebastian,” premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at Sundance 2024 and was embraced by critics. The film will be distributed by Kino Lorber and will be released on Aug. 2, 2024.

Mäkelä was named by IndieWire as an “LGBTQ Filmmaker on the Rise.” In its review out of Sundance, the site went on to praise “Sebastian” as a “provocative, explicit, and ultimately tender drama.
