Apple TV has revealed a set of first-look images for ‘Echo Valley’ alongside the announcement that the feature will be premiering in select cinemas and on Apple TV+ globally June 13, 2025

The film follows a mother struggling to make peace with her troubled daughter Claire (multi-Emmy® nominee Sydney Sweeney) – a situation that becomes even more perilous when Claire shows up on Kate’s doorstep, hysterical and covered in someone else’s blood. As Kate pieces together what happened, she learns just how far a mother will go to try to save her child in this gripping tale of love, sacrifice, and survival.

Apple Original Films has released a new version with 48 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the Oscar-nominated tentpole. Napoleon: The Director’s Cut stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and dives deeper into the origins and ascent of the military leader through the prism of his often volatile relationship with his wife, Josephine, played by Vanessa Kirby.

The director’s cut also focuses on Josephine’s own origin story with what Apple promises are more extravagant costumes, new larger-than-life sets and the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. The original Napoleon film, with a screenplay by David Scarpa, spanned three decades of European history as the military commander triumphed in the Revolutionary Wars and rose to become Emperor of France in 1804, only to end his life in exile.

The film centers on an elite trio of astronauts who board a years-long, possibly compromised mission to Saturn’s moon Titan. “As the team gears up for a highly dangerous slingshot maneuver that will either catapult them to Titan or into deep space, it becomes increasingly difficult for one astronaut to maintain his grip on reality,” the official synopsis reads.

Napoleon completists, beware. You will not see the entire story of the infamous Emperor of France in Ridley Scott’s two-and-a-half hour “Napoleon” (Apple Original Films and Columbia Pictures). Scott’s screenwriter David Scarpa explains how the two men carved a movie out of this colorful slice of French history.

Anne Thompson: How did this project come to you?

David Scarpa: I had worked with Ridley on a movie called “All the Money in the World,” and his producing partner, Kevin Walsh, who ran his company, came to me and said that Ridley wanted to do a movie about Napoleon, and didn’t say much else. Like most Americans, I had only a high school basic knowledge of Napoleon or the history of the French Revolution. I had already read the [Stanley] Kubrick screenplay and knew that this was something that a lot of filmmakers had tried to do in the past.

Legacy studio Warner Bros. and streaming goliaths Amazon and Netflix are in the midst of trying to acquire Calamity Hustle, a new feature project from Aaron and Adam Nee, the sibling team that found success with their 2022 sleeper hit The Lost City.

The Nee brothers are writing the script and are directing. Reynolds and Tatum would star and produce via their respective banners, Maximum Effort and Free Association. Holding the world premiere of Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” in Paris was a no-brainer for Sony’s motion picture group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman, due to the film’s French DNA and its subject, the famous French emperor (played by Joaquin Phoenix).

“Where else could you begin the worldwide rollout of ‘Napoleon’ than France?,” said Rothman on the red carpet of the event at the Salle Pleyel concert hall, where Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby and Tahar Rahim were able to attend thanks to the end of the 118-day SAG-AFTRA strike.

But the French theatrical bow comes with a downside for Apple, which financed the pricey movie and will now have to wait 17 months to launch the movie on its service due to France’s strict windowing rules.

Phoenix leads Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” as the famed French ruler. The R-rated film marks a reunion between director/producer Scott and “All the Money in the World” scribe David Scarpa, who both co-wrote the script.

The official synopsis reads: “Napoleon” is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. Napoleon director-producer Ridley Scott was on stage at Deadline’s Contenders London event to discuss the journey behind his latest epic and why he chose Joaquin Phoenix to portray the iconic Emperor.

Speaking about casting Oscar winner Phoenix, who he had previously worked with on Gladiator [in which Phoenix played another Emperor], filmmaking legend Scott told the audience that he had always viewed Phoenix’s character in that movie as “the most sympathetic character in Gladiator, being the product of such a neglectful father.”

He continued: “I was blown away by his outrageous film Joker. I didn’t like the way it celebrated violence but Joaquin was remarkable. I thought he’d be an amazing asset to Napoleon, [not only creatively] also in a commercial sense. There were only two actors I had in mind for the role. I won’t mention the other one.”

Apple and Paramount Pictures have announced that Martin Scorsese’s upcoming feature film, Killers of the Flower Moon, will be released in theaters globally on October 20, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date. The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by David Grann, and tells the story of a series of murders that overshadowed the prosperity of Osage County in the 1920s.

The film was originally planned to have a limited release on October 6, before going wide on October 20. However, Apple has decided to skip the limited release and go for a wide global release on the same date. During Monday night’s Sony presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the studio revealed the first footage ever of Ridley Scott’s epic from Apple Original Films. Directed by Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, Napoleon stars Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader Napoleon Bonaparte. The feature is notable as it signals Apple is serious about entering the theatrical space, which is welcome news for theater owners.

Sony film boss Tom Rothman introduced the footage, noting the film will have a “robust theatrical window and a full-throttle marketing campaign before moving to Apple TV+.” He added to theater owners, “We trust you will all give maximum support to this film,” as it could portend more cooperation between theaters and streamers to come.

Rothman noted that an epic tale of this scale has not been seen in years.

Indeed, the footage shown supports that notion.

Unlike other studios, Sony doesn’t have a streaming service — rather considering itself an arms dealer, in their licensing of films, but also taking on being a distribution partner.

Rothman conveyed to exhibs in Caesars Palace Colosseum theater how baffled he is that Scott still hasn’t won an Oscar for Best Director. “I know that he can do things cinematically that filmmakers half his age, can’t do,” Rothman said praising the 85-year-old filmmaker.
