    • Eddie Charlton was born on October 31, 1929 in Merewether, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. He died on November 8, 2004 in Palmerston North, New Zealand.

Trivia

  • At the 1989 World Snooker Championship he won his first-round match against Cliff Thorburn at 2:39AM - one of the latest ever finishes in the World Championship.
  • As well as being known for his slow and cautious play, Charlton was often heard swearing under his breath in televised matches.
  • In 1992 Charlton was the first ever player to be whitewashed in a World Championship match at the Crucible (he lost 10-0 to John Parrott).
  • Charlton lost the 1975 World Championship final against Ray Reardon in a first-to-31 frames contest, despite being 29-23 ahead. The final was held in Melbourne in his home country, Australia.
