Maria Brendle is an award-winning director & screenwriter known for her powerful films that explore complex women's issues. She received an Academy Award® nomination in 2022 for her short film Ala Kachuu - Take and Run and is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Maria holds a bachelor's degree in film from Zurich University of the Arts as well as a master's in cognitive neuroscience from the Academy of Neuroscience (aon) Cologne. She is also a graduate of the Drehbuchwerkstatt Munich screenwriting program. Her nuanced, character-driven films that tackle challenging social topics have garnered widespread critical acclaim, earning her numerous awards and honors at top international film festivals. Her feature film debut FRIEDA'S CASE (Friedas Fall) was released in Swiss theaters in January 2025.
