Ashar Medina is a Surinamese-Cape Verdean writer, producer and director born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
After studying at the Netherlands Film Academy, Medina wrote several mid-length films, including Jungle and Tom Adelaar, which were both nominated for two Golden Calves (Dutch Academy Awards).
After that, Medina became head writer and creative producer of hit-show Mocro Maffia, winning the Golden Calf for Best Drama Series in 2021.
Medina was co-writer of youth series Mees Kees and legal crime drama Nemesis, the first Dutch Disney+ series ever produced. He also co-created the family saga Santos, which was awarded the Golden Calf for Best TV Series in 2023.
Medina co-wrote feature films Dojo and Straatcoaches vs Aliens. His directing credits include Blok and Club Lockdown, the latter of which he also co-produced.
He is an active board member of the Dutch Academy For Film and the founder of Saturnino & Kongo Productions.
