Derry Girls star Saoirse-Monica Jackson will make her New York stage premiere this spring in Irishtown.
The play, written by Ciara Elizabeth Smyth, will make its world premiere at the Irish Repertory Theatre’s Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage starting April 2, ahead of an April 13 opening night. The show, which also stars Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy), will play a limited Off-Broadway run through May 25.
In addition to Burton and Jackson, the play will feature Kevin Oliver Lynch (Purgatory, After Yeats), Brenda Meaney (Little Gem, Uncle Vanya), and Angela Reed (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), with voiceover work by Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption Two).
Directed by Nicola Murphy Dubey, Irishtown follows a Dublin-based theater company that begins rehearsals for their new play, only to discover that the playwright has made the story too dark and experimental, and not Irish enough. The company decides to take matters into their own hands...
