V/H/S Beyond Review | This Alien Splatterfest Is a Solid Addition
Image
In the 12 years since the release of its flagship film, the V/H/S franchise has spawned six sequels, a pair of spinoffs, and a forgotten miniseries (released exclusively on Snapchat). Following last year's V/H/S/85, the latest installment in the found-footage horror series is V/H/S/Beyond, a collection of segments based on aliens and featuring some of the franchise's best and gnarliest special effects to date.

Presented as a fake documentary about aliens, each segment of V/H/S/Beyond is broken up by talking-head interviews with experts, including a longtime believer and scholar and a trio of YouTubers who specialize in visual effects and make a living by debunking purported UFO footage. That ideological balance is thoughtful if somewhat extraneous in a horror anthology whose primary goal is to maximize thrills and chills, as Beyond often does.

Beyond Begins with 3 Quick & Fun Face-Melting Entries

V/H/S/Beyond 3.5/5 HorrorSci-Fi

V/H/S/Beyond is the seventh entry in the long-running horror...

Review: Delicate Arch is an Interesting Film that Plays with Reality Itself
Image
In some stories, the world is exactly as it seems. The rules, physics and details are all adhered to and the story evolves under a set of standard expectations. In others, what we think we know turns out to be false and the rules of the world are turned upside down in the name of examining just what makes perception reality. Matthew Warren‘s Delicate Arch is a story that challenges the nature of reality itself. It’s a story of boundaries and liminal spaces. Of finding yourself in the in-between. It’s a fun film that keeps the viewer and the characters guessing, while cleverly upending the rules that define both the story and the world of the characters.

The story takes place in a near-future that is suffering some pretty regular and intense effects of climate change. It revolves around a group of friends escaping Salt Lake City...

First Look Trailer for Supernatural Thriller 'Delicate Arch' Set in Utah
Image
"They thought that these arches were portals to another time & space." Time to escape to the desert for a trippy horror experience. The title is a reference to the very real Arches National Park in Utah (see Google Maps), where they end up on a camping trip. Four college kids with fracturing relationships take a camping trip in order to escape an ecological disaster. Alone in the desert, they begin to suspect that their reality might not be as it seems, soon realizing they're being watched. Starring William Leon, Kelley Mack, Kevin Bohleber, and Rene Leech. What kind of extra strange Lovecraftian craziness will they encounter in the Utah desert? Or is it all just the mushrooms? The film is premiering at the 2024 Dances with Films...
