Were The Mosquitoes From Gilligan's Island A Real Band?
Image
Depending on your tastes, one of the best things about "Gilligan's Island" was the fact that seven castaways on an uncharted island, hidden from the rest of humankind, were frequently visited by all manner of guests. There was the time a young Kurt Russell appeared on "Gilligan's Island" as Jungle Boy, or when Don Rickles guest starred as kidnapper Norbert Wiley and quickly made Russell Johnson lose his cool.

Though one scrapped episode would have made sense of some of this classic "Gilligan's Island" nonsense, for the most part this kind of thing was never explained. Such was the case with the season 2 episode "Don't Bug the Mosquitoes," in which a Beatles-esque band named The Mosquitos visits the island simply to escape their fame for a while. How did they know about this uncharted island? Did they really pack all their instruments and amps into a small helicopter just so...

‘The Possession of Hannah Grace’ DVD Review
Stars: Shay Mitchell, Grey Damon, Kirby Johnson, Nick Thune, Louis Herthum, Stana Katic, Maximillian McNamara, Jacob Ming-Trent, James A. Watson Jr., Marianne Bayard, Adrian M. Mompoint, Matt Mings, Gijs Scholten van Aschat, Guy Clemens | Written by Brian Sieve | Directed by Diederik Van Rooijen

At the fingertips of Diederik Van Rooijen’s horror, The Possession of Hannah Grace, is an engaging, ghoulish and terrifying prospect of intense atmospheric horror with a terrific setting to inject some superb frights. That said, it becomes quite painful to report that within the first ten minutes of the films short eighty-six-minute running time it fails to convince the audience what you’re watching is actually nightmarish, nor express the quality of horror it has at hand. Ultimately, Rooijen’s film with every opportunity takes the easiest and most simplistic conventional avenue possible with so little inventive cinematic narratives or attributes examined, leading to a deeply unimaginative picture.

The second weekend of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is dominating North American moviegoing with an estimated $28 million at 4,017 locations, early estimates showed Friday.

The second weekend of “Creed II,” the third weekend of “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” and the fourth frame of “The Grinch” are battling for second place in the $15 million range. “The Possession of Hannah Grace,” the weekend’s only opener, is materializing at the high end of forecasts with about $6 million at 2,065 locations on Thursday night.

If the estimates hold for “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” it will be the third year in a row that a holdover Disney animated movie has won the post-Thanksgiving weekend with a $27 million-plus take, following “Coco” last year with $27.5 million and “Moana” with $28.3 million in 2016. “Ralph” should finish the weekend with about $120 million in its first 11 days — giving it a decent shot at matching the final domestic gross of 2012’s “Wreck-It Ralph” at $189 million.

Review: The Possession Of Hannah Grace Isn’t Great, But its Two Lead Actresses Are
One of my least favorite subgenres in horror is possession movies. Sure, there have been a lot of great ones to come out over the years (with The Exorcist being the all-time standard bearer), but if I’m being honest, when I’m looking to indulge in the horrific side of entertainment, films about possession are going to be the last thing I would choose. That being said, The Possession of Hannah Grace already had my general disinterest to contend with going into it, and other than strong performances from its two leads, there’s really not a ton else that makes this a truly standout effort. All in all, Hannah Grace is something I’d refer to as “fine,” but that’s about it.

The story of Hannah Grace follows former cop Megan Reed (Shay Mitchell), who has been struggling with addiction ever since her partner was gunned down in the line of duty,...

Box Office: ‘Possession of Hannah Grace’ Materializes $625,000 on Thursday Night
Shay Mitchell in L'Exorcisme de Hannah Grace (2018)
“The Possession of Hannah Grace” materialized with $625,000 at 1,866 North American locations in Thursday night preview screenings.

Sony’s supernatural horror film, the weekend’s only nationwide opening, is set to expand Friday to 2,065 sites, with the studio anticipating a three-day performance of about $3 million. The sophomore weekend of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” is pegged to take the top spot, with “Creed II,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” and “The Grinch” battling for second place.

Sony’s Screen Gems is distributing “The Possession of Hannah Grace,” which stars Shay Mitchell as a troubled ex-cop who takes the graveyard shift in a morgue and discovers a body that may be possessed by a ruthless demonic force. Kirby Johnson, Stana Katic, Grey Damon, and Nick Thune also star, with Diederik Van Rooijen directing from a script by Brian Sieve. “Hannah Grace,” which carries a $10 million price tag, is produced by Broken Road.

‘The Possession of Hannah Grace’ Exorcises $625,000 from Thursday Box Office
Shay Mitchell in L'Exorcisme de Hannah Grace (2018)
“The Possession of Hannah Grace,” an R-rated horror thriller opening from Sony’s Screen Gems, earned $625,000 in Thursday box office previews starting at 7 p.m. in 1,866 locations.

It’s expected to be a slow weekend for new releases post-Thanksgiving, with “Ralph Breaks the Internet” and “Creed II” still expected to hold strong in their second weekends. But the studio is projecting “Hannah Grace” (previously titled “Cadaver”) to open to $3 million behind a production budget of under $10 million.

By comparison, the 2016 film “Incarnate” also opened in the post-Thanksgiving slot and took in $2.5 million in its opening weekend.

‘The Possession of Hannah Grace’ Film Review: Shay Mitchell Is Bored in a Morgue in Dull Thriller
Shay Mitchell in L'Exorcisme de Hannah Grace (2018)
You don’t have to be a horror aficionado to know that corpses are scary. The lifeless husk of a human being, the rapidly decaying meat suit that housed all our thoughts and memories, is a brutal reminder of our fleeting mortality. So it stands to reason that a film like “The Possession of Hannah Grace,” about a woman working in a morgue where one of the corpses refuses to stay still, would be pretty darned scary. If only in principle.

And yes, that’s true. And only in principle. “The Possession of Hannah Grace” takes a concept so unsettling it’s already been turned into one great movie — “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” — and turns it into a dreary horror thriller, without any of those pesky thrills.

“Hannah Grace” begins with an exorcism scene so mechanical that it plays like a last-minute reshoot. Drab tones, rigid shafts of sunlight...

Film Review: ‘The Possession of Hannah Grace’
Shay Mitchell in L'Exorcisme de Hannah Grace (2018)
In theory, putting “possession” in the title of a horror movie should add to its box-office allure. But it probably won’t take long for word to trickle out that “The Possession of Hannah Grace,” after the first five minutes, is not an exorcism movie. Rather, it’s about the corpse of a girl who dies during an exorcism, so technically speaking you could say that it qualifies. But viewers hooked on the spectacle of demonic possession tend to like their satanic tropes served neat. “The Possession of Hannah Grace” serves them sloppy, if not without a certain random soupçon of grisly style.

Just about the entire film is set in a morgue. And though it stars Shay Mitchell, from “Pretty Little Liars,” it has her playing a character with almost no personality: Megan, an ex-cop and (barely) recovering alcoholic who lands a job working the graveyard shift as a...

Interview: Kirby Johnson on Transforming Herself for The Possession Of Hannah Grace
We’re just a few days away now from the arrival of The Possession of Hannah Grace in theaters everywhere, and to get you ready for all the supernatural spookiness, Daily Dead recently spoke with the actress behind the titular character, Kirby Johnson, whose physical performance in Hannah Grace is both creepy and jaw-dropping at times. During the interview, Johnson discussed digging into her mysterious character, how her background in dance helped her throughout the filming of The Possession of Hannah Grace, and more.

Great to speak with you, Kirby. I’d love to hear about coming into this film and playing this character from your perspective, because it's a largely physical performance, and while we get hints at who she was before she became possessed, we ultimately don’t know much about her.

Video Interview: Shay Mitchell on Her Character and Preparing for The Possession Of Hannah Grace
This Friday, The Possession of Hannah Grace will be arriving in theaters, ready to snatch some souls and thrill audiences everywhere. Directed by Diederik Van Rooijen, Hannah Grace follows a former cop who now works the graveyard shift at a hospital morgue, where she encounters the corpse of a young woman whose remains still have a little (demonic) life left in them, wreaking havoc on everyone that comes in contact with the body of Hannah Grace (Kirby Johnson).

At the recent press day for The Possession of Hannah Grace, Daily Dead spoke with Mitchell, who discussed the appeal of her character in the film, Megan Reed, and how she must overcome some devastating trauma from her past and deal with her inner demons, all while contending with a demonic presence in the form of the titular character. Shay also chatted about preparing for the challenges of her role in Hannah...

Set Visit Interview with The Possession Of Hannah Grace Writer Brian Sieve and Producer Sean Robins
Last year, I was invited to check out the set of The Possession of Hannah Grace, which will arrive in theaters on November 30th, thanks to Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Entertainment. After an exorcism goes horribly wrong, the body of Hannah Grace is taken to a local morgue, but she doesn't stay dead. Thankfully, we were on set at the perfect time to witness things unravel at the morgue, and I saw firsthand how terrifying and claustrophobic a morgue can be.

Kicking off a series of interviews we conducted on set with a group of journalists, I wanted to share our discussion with producer Sean Robins and writer Brian Sieve, who is no stranger to horror, having been a writer on the Scream and Teen Wolf TV series. Keep an eye out for more interviews with the cast and crew, including Shay Mitchell and Hannah Grace herself, Kirby Johnson.

Creepy Trailer For The Exorcism Horror Film The Possession Of Hannah Grace
Morgues already make a great setting for any horror film, but throw a possessed dead body into the mix and then you’ve got yourself a creepy-ass story to tell! It’s really a simple premise, but it sure looks like it’ll make for an entertaining horror film that will offer some crazy thrills and chills, especially if you scare easy.

The movie stars Pretty Little Liars‘ Shay Mitchell and the film is set in the aftermath of an exorcism that has gone horribly wrong. The body may be dead, but there’s an evil demon that still resides in it who is going to find joy in scaring the living shit out of a young women who is working the graveyard shift at the morgue… alone. Here’s the synopsis:

Possession of Hannah Grace Trailer Shows You How Not to Do an Exorcism
Shay Mitchell in L'Exorcisme de Hannah Grace (2018)
The first trailer for The Possession of Hannah Grace is here. We only recently learned that this movie even exists and, somewhat surprisingly, it's being released by Sony at the end of next month. The studio released a first-look poster for Hannah Grace at the end of last week and, as promised, they've delivered the first footage from what looks to be a kind of fresh take on the exorcism subgenre of horror. Will that relative originality amount to a good movie? That remains to be seen, but there are some red flags here.

The trailer kicks off with the "new girl" boarding a mysteriously unappealing job that she's seemingly happy to take. Who wouldn't want to jump on board a gig that involves hanging out with cadavers all night? The footage also sets up that our lead has something of a troubled past. Things get a little iffy when...

“I got a weird one for ya,” the delivery guy tells the newly hired overnight medical examiner. “Her name is Hannah Grace, and her family was performing an exorcism or something on her. Something went wrong.”

Shay Mitchell in Trailer for Horror 'The Possession of Hannah Grace'

This reminds me a lot of The Autopsy of Jane Doe, but with a few different twists. And plenty of creepiness. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Diederik Van Rooijen's The Possession of Hannah Grace,...
