Milan Luthria’s Deewaar: Let’s Bring Our Heroes Home is largely set in a prison camp in Pakistan. As in Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, the barbed fence plays a pivotal part. Prisoners jump on it in frantic attempts to escape, the heroes get their hair hands, limbs and torsos bloody and swollen over it.

Barb re barb! Yup, the spiky fence is the real villain of Luthria’s second rugged boys’-day-out adventure… no ‘fence’ meant to the impressive cast of evil Pakistani army-men who lend a specific colour of ruggedness and adventure to the goings-on.

Tanuja Chandra’s grossly underrated film, Dushman, features Kajol in her career-best performance in a double role. When one of the twins is brutally murdered, the other takes revenge. The film was adapted from John Schlesinger’s tepid thriller An Eye For An Eye, where Sally Field avenged the death of her daughter. Several clever changes were made to the original script. In the original, it is the mother (Sally Field) who goes on a vendetta spree against her daughter’s rapist and murderer. In Dushman, it is the twin sister (Kajol) who seeks retribution, while the mother(Tanve Azmi) seeks closure to the tragedy. Dushman also added a romantic angle to the original with Sanjay Dutt...

The underrated Tanuja Chandra has made some memorable movies in her time. She made this delicate, sensitive, but little-seen film about a Sikh family in the US after 9/11 called Hope & A Little Sugar, released in India on April 18, 2008, made this film as a message of hope. The underrated film features Anupam Kher and Mahima Chaudhary as a Sikh father and daughter coping with the trauma of losing a dear one.

Vinod did eight films as a child. His debut as a leading man in Ek Thi Reeta was unremarkable. In an era when actors shouted to be heard, Vinod was the mute performer. His performances never screamed for attention.

He never felt threatened doing heroine-centric film.

Some films just get you interested for all the wrong reasons. Think about it. This is a sex comedy about a bored and boring man who wants to pep up his life with a bit of wife-swapping… hardly the kind of theme and film that would qualify as little more than an effort to titillate audiences with a whole lot of junk feud in the domestic ambience.

Strangely and refreshingly Mixed Doubles, which completes 19 years on February 10, transcends the inherent limitations of its genre. The pincer-sharp dialogues (Anurag Kashyap) and a handful of believable actors who seem to understand the inner world of their urbane characters help to create a sense of lived-in reality in this brief film about giggly grief.

New Delhi, Dec 30 (Ians) Taking a trip down the memory lane, actress Vidya Balan revealed how during her childhood, she refused to eat her food if she didn’t see the famous song ‘Sara Zamana’ featuring Amitabh Bachchan on television.

‘Sara Zamana’, sung by Kishore Kumar, is from the 1981 movie ‘Yaarana’ starring Amitabh, Neetu Singh, and Tanuja. Vidya appeared for the finale episode of quiz-based reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 15’, along with Indian Para-archer Sheetal Devi.

Actress Kajol has wished her mother Tanuja Samarth a happy 80th birthday, and thanked her for her wisdom and guidance, telling her that she loves her mother to bits and pieces. Posting a video on her X (formerly Twitter), the actress wrote: “Eight decades of love, wisdom, and laughter! Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom! #ForeverBeautiful #ForeverYoung. #LoveYouMom #FineAt80 #ItsABigOne”.

Actress Kajol has wished her mother Tanuja Samarth a happy 80th birthday, and thanked her for her wisdom and guidance, telling her that she loves her mother to bits and pieces. Posting a video on her X (formerly Twitter), the actress wrote: “Eight decades of love, wisdom, and laughter! Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom! #ForeverBeautiful #ForeverYoung. #LoveYouMom #FineAt80 #ItsABigOne”.

In the video, sitting in her house, the ‘Tanhaji’ actress said: “A happy happy 80th birthday mom. I can never thank you enough for the things that you have taught me, by example. I love you to bits and pieces.”

Following her wish, the video proceeded to show an old 1980’s montage of Tanuja, where she said: “I was born and raised in the film industry, for me it is family. For me, whether it was my mother, father, elder sister, myself, and my daughter, we have all been trained to just be ourselves.

Mumbai, July 22 (Ians) Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who is known for films like ‘Bandit Queen’, ‘Elizabeth’, ‘Masoom’, is set to work on the sequel of ‘Masoom’.

Currently based in London for the past two weeks, the filmmaker was recently honoured with the Lifetime Contribution to UK-India Relations award at the Igf’s UK-India Awards.

According to sources, the director’s visit to London holds more significance than the accolades.

“He has been collaborating with a renowned music producer from England, on the music for the movie. The director will also be working with one of the most sought after music composers in India for another soundtrack for ‘Masoom: The Next Generation.’ He is also scouting locations while he’s in London to finalise the setting for the movie,” the source said.

Actor Jisshu Sengupta has talked about working with actress Tanuja to now her daughter Kajol and his experience of working with both of them and the uncanny similarities he found.
