According to Deadline, Presence star Callina Liang has joined the upcoming Street Fighter reboot as Chun-Li. In the source material, Chun-Li is known as a martial artist and Interpol officer who seeks revenge against the murderer of her father, the franchise's main antagonist, M. Bison. Exclusive: Callina Liang, star of Steven Soderbergh’s recent supernatural thriller Presence, has landed the female lead role of Chun-Li in Legendary’s live-action Street Fighter movie, based on the video games from Capcom, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for Legendary declined to comment, and the film’s plot remains under wraps. One of the most iconic characters in the franchise, Chun-Li is a skilled martial artist and Interpol officer who first appeared in Street Fighter II in 1991. Stan Lee’s daughter, J.C. Lee, has settled a multimillion dollar lawsuit she filed against a man who oversaw Lee’s memorabilia dealings in the final years of his life.

In the suit, Lee accused Mac (a.k.a. Max) Anderson of siphoning more than $11.6 million in autograph revenue. He was also accused of taking $10.2 million in revenue from appearance fees at comic book events. Anderson denied the allegations, which also included claims that he took numerous items belonging to Lee, including Marvel figurines and statues and an original Bob Kane drawing of the Joker.

The suit was originally filed in 2019, and was due to go to trial in Santa Monica on Monday. The parties filed a notice of settlement on Thursday.

“A settlement agreement has been executed and once its terms are satisfied, it resolves all of the issues and disputes between and among the Parties,” the attorneys said in a joint notice.

Shortly before Stan Lee died, The Hollywood Reporter ran a story claiming that the Spider-Man and X-Men co-creator had been the victim of elder abuse. The finger was pointed squarely at his daughter, Jc Lee, and she's now hit back at those accusations in a new Business Insider interview. 

Jc denies that she physically abused Stan and her mother, Joan, and calls the stories about her "a lie." She adds, "I never ever touched my parents." 

Many of those in Lee's inner circle were accused of exploiting him, and as recently as this year, footage surfaced showing the elderly comic book creator seemingly being coerced into signings and convention appearances despite being physically exhausted and potentially even mentally unwell. 

It was put to Jc that, in 2014, she grabbed Joan's arm and slammed Stan's head into the back of a chair after discovering her new Jaguar was leased in her father's name.

Since his death in 2018, the final years of comic book icon Stan Lee’s life have undergone a fair amount of scrutiny, including the alleged abusive treatment he received from his daughter J.C. Lee. Speaking to Business Insider, the 75-year-old fervently denied accusations that she ever physically abused either Stan or mother Joan Lee, following a 2018 Hollywood Reporter story which described her attacking both of her parents.

In a new interview with Business Insider, the daughter of the Marvel Comics legend denied that she exploited Stan Lee and physically abused him and her mother, Joan. “I never ever touched my parents,” she said.

A few months before Stan Lee’s death in November 2018, the Hollywood Reporter published an investigation including claims that he was the victim of elder abuse, both by business associates and J.C. Lee. The article alleged that Stan and J.C. had a “powder-keg relationship” and the latter would lash out when her demands for money were not met, including one claim that she attacked her parents in 2014 after learning her new Jaguar was leased in her father’s name instead of her own.

Deadline is now reporting that a Boy George biopic is now in development over at TriStar. It’s still in the early stages, but the movie is set to be written by scribe J.C. Lee, who co-wrote the film adaptation of his own play Luce.

The daughter of Stan Lee is launching a new legal fight against Pow! Entertainment, the company that holds the rights to her father’s name, likeness and intellectual property.

In a lawsuit filed in L.A. Superior Court on Tuesday, J.C. Lee alleges that a series of “suspicious transactions” have diluted her stake in the company. The suit also alleges that she has not received payments as required under the intellectual property agreement.

Stan Lee, the co-creator of numerous Marvel superheroes, died in 2018 at the age of 95, leaving behind a tangle of legal disputes.

J.C. Lee, his daughter and sole heir, sued Pow! Entertainment in 2019, alleging that the company wrongfully claimed ownership of her father’s name and likeness. “Luce” writer Jc Lee is set to make his directorial debut with “Bad Genius,” the upcoming English-language remake of the 2017 hit Thai film “Chalard Games Goeng (Bad Genius).”

Picturestart and Picture Perfect Federation are producing the project, which will star Benedict Wong (“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”) alongside up-and-coming talent Callina Liang (“Tell Me Everything”) and Jabari Banks (“Bel-Air”). The film is financed by Mallory Edens’ Little Ray Media and will begin production in May.

The original film was written and directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya and produced by Thai film studio Gdh 559 Company Limited. The movie debuted at No. 1 at the Thai box office, quickly becoming the country’s highest-grossing Thai film of the year and, ultimately, the most internationally successful Thai film ever.

Lee also takes co-writing credits for the English-language screenplay with Julius Onah, who was previously announced as the director. The pair previously collaborated on the Sundance 2019 title Luce, adapted from Lee’s original play of the same name.

Up-and-coming talents Callina Liang, star of Itvx teen drama Tell Me Everything, and Jabari Banks (Bel-Air) will star with veteran UK actor Benedict Wong (Doctor Stranger In The Multiverse Of Madness).

The English remake is billed as a high-stakes, high-octane thriller about a diverse group of young people who team up to fight the system of injustice and inequity and take down the rigged academic institutions around them.

A judge dismissed theft charges on Tuesday against Stan Lee’s former business manager, Keya Morgan, after a jury announced that it was deadlocked in the case.

The jurors said they were split 11-1 in favor of acquitting Morgan, who was accused of stealing 222,480 in cash from Lee. Judge George Lomeli declared a mistrial, excused the jury and then announced that he was dismissing the case “in the interests of justice.”

“The defense showed somebody else beside my client got the cash,” defense lawyer Alex Kessel said outside court. “Eleven of them saw that… I think the judge made the right call so my client can go on with his life.”

Odds are, most people know Julius Onah for directing "The Cloverfield Paradox," the third entry in the "Cloverfield" franchise and a film that was infamously surprise-dropped on Netflix right after Super Bowl Lii ended in 2018. Stan Lee’s estate is one step closer to clearing up a messy legal battle involving accusations of exploitation and elder abuse by the comic book legend’s inner circle, with the settlement of a lawsuit against Lee’s former business manager, Jerardo “Jerry” Olivarez.

According to a court document filed on Monday, Lee’s estate moved to dismiss claims against Olivarez. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The settlement doesn’t include claims against Lee’s former attorney, Uri Litvak.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, best known his work on the sci-fi sequel “The Cloverfield Paradox” and the Sundance drama “Luce” is directing “Captain America 4.” The currently-untitled sequel is being written by “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” creator Malcolm Spellman and one of the show’s staff writers, Dalan Musson.

After years of working on short films, Onah made his feature directorial debut on the 2015 crime thriller “The Girl Is in Trouble.” He followed that by directing “The Cloverfield Paradox,” which famously debuted on Netflix without any warning following a 2018 Super Bowl commercial. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is resurrecting Stan Lee thanks to a new licensing deal — and fans are voicing their criticisms.

On May 19, Marvel announced a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe, a venture between Genius Brands International and Pow! Entertainment, to license the name and likeness of the late Marvel Comics editor-in-chief for use in future feature films and television productions, as well as Disney theme parks, “experiences,” and merchandise under a “broad deal” with his estate.

Lee died in November 2018 at age 95, and fans are calling for the memory of the beloved writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics to be laid to rest.

Vulture critic Alison Willmore compared the deal to a “Weekend at Bernie’s” scheme, and Red Letter Media co-founder Jay Bauman slammed the deal, writing, “Stan Lee was exploited for the last few years of his life and now he can’t even rest in peace.

Luce scribe J.C. Lee, whose credits as a writer and co-producer also include series such as How To Get Away With Murder and Looking, has scripted the feature with Onah.

As previously announced, the film is an English-language remake of the hit 2017 Thai film by Nattawut Poonpiriya. The US-set adaptation is being described as a high-octane thriller about a group of entrepreneurial high school seniors who team up to take down a rigged college admissions system.
