The live-action Street Fighter movie finds its Chun-Li in a recent 25-year-old breakout star. In April 2023, it was announced that Legendary was developing an adaptation of the Capcom video game franchise with Danny and Michael Philippou, fresh off their successful debut Talk to Me, in talks to direct, though they eventually dropped out and were replaced by Kitao Sakurai in May 2025. More recently, the Street Fighter movie made a big splash by casting Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck in undisclosed roles.
Now, the live-action adaptation has added another star. According to Deadline, the Street Fighter movie has cast Callina Liang as Chun-Li. Representatives for Legendary declined to comment on the reported casting, and plot details remain under wraps.

Stan Lee’s daughter, J.C. Lee, has settled a multimillion dollar lawsuit she filed against a man who oversaw Lee’s memorabilia dealings in the final years of his life.
In the suit, Lee accused Mac (a.k.a. Max) Anderson of siphoning more than $11.6 million in autograph revenue. He was also accused of taking $10.2 million in revenue from appearance fees at comic book events. Anderson denied the allegations, which also included claims that he took numerous items belonging to Lee, including Marvel figurines and statues and an original Bob Kane drawing of the Joker.
The suit was originally filed in 2019, and was due to go to trial in Santa Monica on Monday. The parties filed a notice of settlement on Thursday.
“A settlement agreement has been executed and once its terms are satisfied, it resolves all of the issues and disputes between and among the Parties,” the attorneys said in a joint notice.

Shortly before Stan Lee died, The Hollywood Reporter ran a story claiming that the Spider-Man and X-Men co-creator had been the victim of elder abuse. The finger was pointed squarely at his daughter, Jc Lee, and she's now hit back at those accusations in a new Business Insider interview.
Jc denies that she physically abused Stan and her mother, Joan, and calls the stories about her "a lie." She adds, "I never ever touched my parents."
Many of those in Lee's inner circle were accused of exploiting him, and as recently as this year, footage surfaced showing the elderly comic book creator seemingly being coerced into signings and convention appearances despite being physically exhausted and potentially even mentally unwell.
It was put to Jc that, in 2014, she grabbed Joan's arm and slammed Stan's head into the back of a chair after discovering her new Jaguar was leased in her father's name.

Since his death in 2018, the final years of comic book icon Stan Lee’s life have undergone a fair amount of scrutiny, including the alleged abusive treatment he received from his daughter J.C. Lee. Speaking to Business Insider, the 75-year-old fervently denied accusations that she ever physically abused either Stan or mother Joan Lee, following a 2018 Hollywood Reporter story which described her attacking both of her parents.
The original Hollywood Reporter story describes a 2014 incident in which:
“J.C. then roughly grabbed her mother by one arm, shoving her against a window. Joanie fell to the carpeted floor. Lee, seated in a nearby chair and looking stunned, told J.C. he was cutting her off: ‘I’m going to stick you in a little apartment and take away all your credit cards!’ Herman recalls Lee shouting. ‘I’ve had it, you ungrateful bitch!’ In ‘a rage,’ J.C. took hold of Lee’s neck,...

Stan Lee’s daughter, J.C. Lee, has spoken out about previous allegations that she abused her parents in their old age, calling them “all lies.”
In a new interview with Business Insider, the daughter of the Marvel Comics legend denied that she exploited Stan Lee and physically abused him and her mother, Joan. “I never ever touched my parents,” she said.
A few months before Stan Lee’s death in November 2018, the Hollywood Reporter published an investigation including claims that he was the victim of elder abuse, both by business associates and J.C. Lee. The article alleged that Stan and J.C. had a “powder-keg relationship” and the latter would lash out when her demands for money were not met, including one claim that she attacked her parents in 2014 after learning her new Jaguar was leased in her father’s name instead of her own.

Some of those, like the recent English-language version of Speak No Evil, manage not only to capitalize on the already existing qualities of the original, but to also expand on them and possibly introduce something novel. Right now, it’s time for a new take on Bad Genius (Chalard games goeng) – a memorable Thai hit from 2017 about a brilliant highschooler who helps her well-off classmates cheat during exams. Gen Z students tackle academic injustice and class warfare in Bad Genius, which remakes 2017's hit Thai movie for an American audience. Set to arrive in theaters on October 11, the film is directed by J.C. Lee (once a supervising producer in the similarly scandalous How To Get Away With Murder) and co-written by Lee and Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah. The new adaption is similar in story to the original, as high-achieving high school student Lynn decides the only way to pay for college is to run a cheating ring operation for high-class students who otherwise won't make the grade.
Relative newcomer Callina Liang plays Lynn in her first leading role, but she counts on support (both on and offscreen) from 3 Body Problem's Benedict Wong, who plays her doting but strict father. Taylor Hickson and Samuel Braun play her classmates and accomplices Grace and Sam,...

Bad Genius, an American remake of the hit 2017 Thai film, is set to arrive in theaters on October 11. The new adaptation is directed by J.C. Lee, who previously served as supervising producer on Love, Victor and How To Get Away With Murder, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Captain America: Brave New World's Julius Onah. The story closely mirrors its source material, following a bright young high school student who funds her future college tuition by starting a cheating ring for the higher-class, lower-intelligence kids in her class. But there is one major twist that sets Bad Genius apart from its predecessor, and that is the interplay of race in American society.
While the Thai film focuses on class struggles, the Bad Genius remake naturally incorporates the country's diversity an undercurrent that's especially relevant in the wake of the Supreme Court reversing affirmative action. Callina Liang plays the pluck protagonist Lynn,...

Was Nattawut Poonpiriya‘s “Bad Genius” good? No, it was great. It was so great that almost all of the Asia Pacific from India to Australia loved it. It was so great that Bollywood wanted a version of their own, and made “Farrey” in 2023. But like anything that is great about Asian cinema, Hollywood also wants a piece of it. TV and stage writer, J. C. Lee in his debut as a director, offers his “Bad Genius” where he takes what was basic off the original and filled the rest with anything symptomatically Hollywood, including this basicness.
The basicness here means that this is identifiably “Bad Genius” in its core as a narrative — all the plot points are there, all the stakes, and consequences. It is remarkably shorter: some 30 minutes shorter than both the Thai and Bollywood versions. The whole set up remains the same: highschool poster girl and boy...

Following the news that Boy George and Culture Club are getting the big screen biopic treatment, an interesting casting suggestion has resurfaced. While no one has yet been cast as the 80s music icon, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner has previously expressed her desire to bring Boy George to life on the silver screen.
The casting idea was addressed by Boy George himself during an appearance on the Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa back in 2019. Theres been some really interesting suggestions, he replied when asked who could play him in a potential biopic (via British Vogue). One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner. Musical biopics have picked up in activity as of late. Recently, the Bob Marley movie One Love encapsulated a notable story from the Raggae icon’s life. This year has seen the release of Back to Black, which told the story of Amy Winehouse. And this Christmas will see the premiere of A Complete Unknown, which brings James Mangold back to the music world with Timothée Chalamet occupying the shoes of Bob Dylan. Not to mention, in the future, we’re getting a Bruce Springsteen film with Jeremy Allen White as The Boss, and Sam Mendes is bringing The Beatles’ story to theaters across four feature films.
Deadline is now reporting that a Boy George biopic is now in development over at TriStar. It’s still in the early stages, but the movie is set to be written by scribe J.C. Lee, who co-wrote the film adaptation of his own play Luce.

The daughter of Stan Lee is launching a new legal fight against Pow! Entertainment, the company that holds the rights to her father’s name, likeness and intellectual property.
In a lawsuit filed in L.A. Superior Court on Tuesday, J.C. Lee alleges that a series of “suspicious transactions” have diluted her stake in the company. The suit also alleges that she has not received payments as required under the intellectual property agreement.
Stan Lee, the co-creator of numerous Marvel superheroes, died in 2018 at the age of 95, leaving behind a tangle of legal disputes.
J.C. Lee, his daughter and sole heir, sued Pow! Entertainment in 2019, alleging that the company wrongfully claimed ownership of her father’s name and likeness. A federal judge dismissed that suit in 2020, finding that the claims were “frivolous” and “factually and legally baseless,” and that the central issue in the case had already been adjudicated several times.

A judge dismissed theft charges on Tuesday against Stan Lee’s former business manager, Keya Morgan, after a jury announced that it was deadlocked in the case.
The jurors said they were split 11-1 in favor of acquitting Morgan, who was accused of stealing 222,480 in cash from Lee. Judge George Lomeli declared a mistrial, excused the jury and then announced that he was dismissing the case “in the interests of justice.”
“The defense showed somebody else beside my client got the cash,” defense lawyer Alex Kessel said outside court. “Eleven of them saw that… I think the judge made the right call so my client can go on with his life.”
Morgan was accused of stealing the proceeds from three memorabilia signings in May 2018, which took place about six months before Lee died at age 95. He was tried on three felony counts of grand theft from an elder, and could...

Odds are, most people know Julius Onah for directing "The Cloverfield Paradox," the third entry in the "Cloverfield" franchise and a film that was infamously surprise-dropped on Netflix right after Super Bowl Lii ended in 2018. I seem to be among the rare people who actually kind of liked the movie, though I also won't deny it's clearly an original sci-fi thriller that got messily re-tooled as a "Cloverfield" flick during its development.
If all you know Onah for is his "Cloverfield film, then you might have been a tad confused when Marvel Studios hired him to direct the fourth "Captain America" movie, "Captain America: New World Order." The sequel will pick up with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) at some point after the events of "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," as the former Falcon continues to settle into his role as the new Star-Spangled Avenger. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is resurrecting Stan Lee thanks to a new licensing deal — and fans are voicing their criticisms.
On May 19, Marvel announced a 20-year deal with Stan Lee Universe, a venture between Genius Brands International and Pow! Entertainment, to license the name and likeness of the late Marvel Comics editor-in-chief for use in future feature films and television productions, as well as Disney theme parks, “experiences,” and merchandise under a “broad deal” with his estate.
Lee died in November 2018 at age 95, and fans are calling for the memory of the beloved writer and editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics to be laid to rest.
Vulture critic Alison Willmore compared the deal to a “Weekend at Bernie’s” scheme, and Red Letter Media co-founder Jay Bauman slammed the deal, writing, “Stan Lee was exploited for the last few years of his life and now he can’t even rest in peace.

Celebrated action filmmaker John Woo will produce a live-action adaptation of Stan Lee’s “Monkey Master,” from a superhero story created by Lee and collaborator Sharad Devarajan.
Based on an unreleased comic book series and story created by Marvel maven Lee and Graphic India co-founder and CEO Devarajan, the film will follow New York City archeologist Li Yong who discovers an ancient prophecy about the Chinese legend of The Monkey King that brings him to India where he uncovers a hidden power that transforms him into a modern-day superhero – the Monkey Master.
In 2016, Lee had discussed “Monkey Master,” saying: “I have always been fascinated by the Chinese and Indian cultures which are so philosophical and rich in tradition and morality. I’ve written countless superheroes of every nationality and every part of the world before, I’ve even created many heroes from other planets and galaxies, but ‘Monkey Master’ will...

"Stan Lee, a superhero in his own right, served to inspire the everyday hero. The Court urges parties to treat his legacy with respect and cease engaging in meritless litigation."
That quote comes from the conclusion of U.S. District Court Judge Otis Wright's scathing order on Thursday dismissing a suit brought by J.C. Lee.
Last September, nearly a year after the comic book genius died at the age of 95, his daughter brought a suit attempting to reclaim much of her father's intellectual property. The complaint focused on the period of Stan Lee's life ...

Fighting with My Family (Stephen Merchant)
A crowdpleaser down to its bones, Fighting with My Family shows the importance of bringing an entertaining perspective to a true story. This tale of a British underdog with major wrestling dreams is thoroughly elevated by the participation of writer-director Stephen Merchant. His brand of dry, off-kilter comedy surges through what is an otherwise inspiring, but by-the-numbers tale of childhood aspirations come true. – Jordan R. (full review)
Where to Stream: Hulu
Ford v Ferrari (James Mangold)
James Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari is, in a word, sturdy. It’s the kind of airtight drama that could never be called groundbreaking or even original.
