Michael John Bell was born in Newcastle upon Tyne England and graduated from Brighton University with an honours degree in visual communication. On graduating from university Michael was commissioned by the BBC to write, co-produce and co-direct a critically-acclaimed episode for the BBC 2 arts series "Something Else."

Following this success Michael was snapped up by the production designer Alex McDowell ("Man Of Steel", "The Terminal", "Minority Report") at Da Gama Films Ltd to design and conceptualize the company's music video output, including the seminal work of the UK band The Cure.

Michael was subsequently headhunted by A&M Records Ltd to run their UK music video division; winning numerous industry awards for the company's groundbreaking videos.

On leaving A&M Records Michael forged a successful career as a music video and commercials director, before setting up Lodestone Pictures with David Yates ("Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix", "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince", "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2") to write and develop feature film projects. The first feature film project from the duo would be "Shipbuilding" which was optioned by Little Bird Films.

Further screenwriting projects followed for Michael, as an independent screenwriter, including the screenplay of "Elsa and Fred" (2013) directed by 2x Academy Award Nominee Michael Radford ("Il Postino") and produced by Academy Award Winner Ed Saxon ("Silence Of The Lambs""Philadelphia", "Adaptation"). Chilean Miner epic drama "The 33" for Academy Award Nominated producer Mike Medavoy ("Black Swan", "Shutter Island", "Zodiac") and multi award winning director Patricia Riggen ("Girl In Progress, "La Misma Luna").

Michael also has a diverse set of screenplays actively in development with various production companies including the horror "Love Motel" in development at Straightwire Films, the action "Death Penalty" in development with Inspired Films and Snowfort Pictures and an adaptation of the best selling romantic comedy novel "31 Dream Street" in development with The Way We Roll Productions.

In December 2013 he began writing the British comedy road movie "Anarchy in the UK" for Los Angeles based production company Hacienda.
