What makes the "Borderlands" video game franchise so enduring? For starters, it is a classic looter-shooter that combines the best elements of an open-world map and smooth first-person combat with a narrative embroiled in a singular sense of quirkiness that is difficult to replicate. Set in a dystopian world overrun by hypercapitalism, "Borderlands" effortlessly mixes near-future sociopolitical concerns with humanity's attempts to covet alien architecture, where every playable character emerges as distinct and fleshed-out. It is an experience that demands immersion and replay, as the franchise's roleplay elements feel fresh and audacious with every entry. "Borderlands" succeeds in balancing its brash humor with its more brutal, violent flashpoints, paving the path for a measured narrative that goes hand in hand with the thrill of player versus player (PvP) matches.

The social media embargo for Borderlands lifted late last night (or very early this morning) and, while we only have a handful of reactions as we write this, none of them are particularly positive. In fact, they're downright awful.
Fans of the hit video game franchise have spent a long time waiting to see these characters brought to the screen; unfortunately, it appears Hostel director Eli Roth was not the right person to tell this story as the movie is being described as "uninspired," "unwatchable," and "a disaster."
Despite looking fairly game-accurate, trailers for Borderlands haven't given fans much to be excited about and, with so much buzz still surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine, as it heads into its third weekend in theaters, it seems Lionsgate hasn't done anywhere near enough to convince regular moviegoers to buy a ticket.
Worryingly for the studio, the movie's budget is believed to have ballooned...

May 11, 2024, marks the premiere of Doctor Who Series 14, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. Although the new Disney+ series is helmed by returning showrunner Russell T Davies, critics are hailing Series 14 as the breath of fresh air the franchise of over 60 years desperately needed.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Doctor Who Series 14 is currently certified fresh with a perfect 100% score based on over 40 professional reviews. Although things could certainly change over time, critics are overwhelmingly in love with Davies return to Doctor Who and Gatwa as the new Doctor. There is plenty here in these first two episodes to give the audience hope, said Matthew Simpson of That Shelf. If the whole series can maintain the same energy, we should end up with a very silly, fun season of television, and thats exactly what Doctor Who is at its best."

James Clavell‘s 1975 historical novel of the same name is the basis for Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks‘ “Shōgun,” and it makes for exquisite television. Set at the end of the 16th century in Japan, the FX limited series follows several factions in the five Regents all vying for control and power. Intricate world-building and political machinations combine to make “Shōgun” the next “Game of Thrones.” What the two shows also have in common is a collection of superb performances from their extensive casts. Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Cosmo Jarvis lead the way in the show’s leading performances but several supporting players could also be up for an Emmy nomination, including Takehiro Hira.
Hira plays Ishido Kazunari, a former peasant who has now become a powerful bushō (a warlord). Kazunari takes charge of one of the five Regents and is the main rival of Sanada’s Lord Yoshii Toranaga.
