Supernatural is a treasure trove for fans of urban legends and paranormal creatures. In its fifteen seasons, the series covered nearly every supernatural monster as the Winchester brothers made their way to Hell and back multiple times. In this long and arduous journey, producer Bob Singer was extremely involved with the production.
During an interview, Singer reflected on working on the show’s first season, especially when it was yet to find its footing and make its premise actually work. As a result, Singer was forced into directing one episode that might be the show’s funniest and set the foundation for the show’s overall tone. Supernatural Fans Have Been Watching the Wrong Version of Season 1 (& They May Not Have Realized It)
The CW’s 15-season horror-fantasy series, Supernatural, has a distinct sound and aesthetic. Season one introduces audiences to this new world of monsters and things that go bump in the night. With cool tones and eerie locations, every episode is like a mini-horror movie. The look and music are just as important as the Chevy Impala, shotguns, and military jackets.
Classic rock and haunting instrumentals are established as the soundtrack to Supernatural in the pilot episode, but many of the classic rock songs are replaced by then-contemporary music in the digital versions of season one. While some needle drops aren’t the most impactful, they set the tone for the show. Fans who only watch this version of season one are missing out—it’s nothing against the bands used by the streamers, but they just don't feel like Supernatural. Thankfully, this is only a concern for the first season.
