Emilie Bierre and rising star Joelle Farrow have joined Emile Hirsch, Justin Long and Kevin Connolly in the feature, described as a horror mashup of “The Breakfast Club” and “Lord of the Flies” and first announced by Variety in Cannes.

“Lice,” which recently wrapped production in Canada, marks the first feature from Connolly’s ActionPark Productions alongside partner Patrick Marino, and is billed as a “gruesome throwback to ‘80s high school classics.”

Matthew Lillard played one of the original Ghostfaces, Stu Macher, alongside Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) in Wes Craven's Scream, and despite the character seemingly meeting a violent end, fans continue to speculate and theorize that the deranged killer could return in the upcoming Scream 7.

Stu appeared to be pretty definitively killed off during the climax of the movie, but we have seen plenty of people survive what should be fatal wounds in the franchise, so who knows?

For his part, Lillard has said that he believes Stu is still alive, and would be happy to reprise the role if that was something fans wanted to see.

We first learned of this horror flick back in February 2024. At the time, it was reported that Paramount Pictures had boarded a new horror film titled Vicious and that Emmy nominee Dakota Fanning would be leading the cast. Bryan Bertino was also announced to be helming the film. Atlas Entertainment and Richard Suckle were signed on to produce with Melinda Whitaker as executive producer. The movie was also given a Aug. 8, 2025 theatrical release.

However, so much new information has come out about this film since then. For one, it will no longer be released in theaters in August 2025. Instead, its theatrical release has been pushed up to Feb.

Paramount is making some big shifts on its 2025 release calendar, the biggest title dated being Edgar Wright’s reboot of The Running Man starring Glen Powell. The pic is going the Friday before Thanksgiving next year, on November 21.

Running Man will race against Wicked: Part Two on that date as well as Angel Studios’ David and a Warner Bros event movie.

In regards to this year, Paramount also said Friday that its awards-season contender September 5 is now opening November 29 limited before getting a December 13 expansion. Previously, the pic that world premiered at the Venice and Telluride film festivals was set to go on November 27. The Tim Fehlbaum-directed movie starring Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin and Leonie Benesch depicts what happened with the ABC Sports TV control booth had to contend with a live act of terrorism during the 1972 Munich Olympics.

He’ll star in director Edgar Wright’s remake of “The Running Man,” which is being released by Paramount on Nov. 21, 2025, the company announced Friday. Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.

Scream VI has been a massive box office success, breaking franchise records. A year after the Woodboro killings Sam, Tara, Mindy, and Chad have started a new life in New York. However, their fresh start doesn't last when a new Ghostface starts terrorizing them once again targeting Sam. The core four fight to once again survive Ghostface with the help of past Ghostface survivors Gale Weathers and now FBI Agent Kirby Reed, but this one seems more brutal than any of the others.

Two weeks ago, Scream VI (read our review Here) surpassed the worldwide box office total of last year’s Scream movie, leaving its $139 million haul in the dust. As of right now, Scream VI has pulled in $162,210,554 worldwide… and it has reached another milestone. Scream VI crossed the $100 million mark domestically this past weekend, and has now become the highest-grossing entry in the entire franchise at the domestic box office. Until now, the original Scream – released back in 1996 – had been sitting in the top spot with $103 million. Now Scream VI is at the top with $104,410,554 and counting. Complex lists the domestic box office for previous entries: “Scream 2 earned $101 million in 1997, Scream 3 made $89 million in 2000, Scream 4 pulled in just $38 million in 2011, and Scream (2022) ended its domestic run at $81.6 million.”

Scream 6 premiered four weeks ago, and now demands for Scream 7 have reached a fever pitch. The slasher sequel, which is the latest entry in the meta horror-comedy franchise that began with the 1996 classic Scream, follows the survivors of 2022's Scream to New York City, where a new Ghostface killer arrives on the scene. Also on hand in the Scream 6 cast are newcomers Devyn Nekoda, Jack Champion, Josh Segarra, Dermot Mulroney, Samara Weavng, Liana Liberato, and Tony Revolori.

Now that Scream 6 is entering its fifth weekend, fans are getting antsy about the fact that Scream 7 has not yet been officially announced. On top of that, earlier on Thursday, news dropped that the film crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, outgrossing M3GAN to become the highest-grossing 2023 horror film in the U.S. market. Many fans have used this announcement as an excuse to express their Scream 7 frustration.

After kicking ass and taking names in movies like Ready or Not, Guns Akimbo, and Mayhem, Samara Weaving is traveling through time to lay the smackdown on the era of high hair, neon windbreakers, and thrash metal! According to Deadline, Weaving will star in Bella, a 1980s-set action thriller from Larysa Kondracki.

Kondracki directs the feature, with Craig Flores producing through Bread & Circuses Entertainment alongside John Wick’s Chad Stahelski through his 87Eleven banner. Jason Spitz and Alex Young executive produce, with Jesse Wigutow writing based on Jason Markarian’s script.

Set during a 1980s crimewave in New York City, Deadline says Bella is a “hyper-stylized action thriller about a cop’s daughter who, after her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s assassin and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the New York City Police Department.”

Last year, the Scream franchise returned the big screen after an eleven year absence – and last year’s Scream was such a hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office on a budget of $24 million, that Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media quickly greenlit another sequel. Scream VI (read our review Here) had a slightly higher budget, in the range of $35 million, but it’s also turning out to be an even bigger box office success than its predecessor. Scream VI‘s global box office total currently stands at $139.2 million. In just over two weeks of release, it has surpassed Scream 2022’s box office. Now in its third week of release here in the United States, Scream VI has found itself in the #4 spot on the domestic box office charts, scaring up $89.9 million to date (domestically).

Worldwide, Scream VI has slashed its way into $139.2 million, officially passing the worldwide total of last year’s Scream – which ended its run with a total of $137.7 million.

The number to beat in that department is still Wes Craven’s original Scream movie, which hit a franchise-high $173 million when all was said and done back in 1996.
