"That '70s Show" hasn't stayed quite as culturally ubiquitous as its fellow 90s sitcoms "Seinfeld" or "Friends," but that speaks more to how titanic its competitors were and remain. True to its name, "That '70s Show" was set from 1976-1980 (four years stretched out into twice as many seasons), following a group of six high school-aged friends growing up in Point Place, Wisconsin. The town is fictional, but the show's creators modeled "That '70s Show" and its characters on their real teenage experiences.
Running from 1998 to 2006, "That '70s Show" racked up an even 200-episode run. It's also the reason you know who Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, and Topher Grace are — with its popularity, a revival was inevitable, especially because by the 2020s, enough time had passed to update the central gimmick.

We're at the end of 2024, and you know what that means. It's time to look back at what all happened this year. We'll start off by saying that it's been a rollercoaster of a year for many of the streaming services, especially Netflix. While there were many renewals from the streamer, there were also some cancellations.
This year, the streaming powerhouse pulled the plug on 17 of its original series, and there's even a chance there will be more cancellations since 2024 isn't quite over yet. Obviously, a show getting canceled is never a good thing, and it sucks for the people who were hoping for additional installments. However, there's one Netflix show that got the boot this year that we're not exactly sad about.
In this article, we shared all the Netflix show cancellations from this year as well as discussed why we weren't necessarily hurt by one of the shows being axed.

Netflix has axed several shows in 2024 and a few are really angering fans!
It can be hard to be a Netflix subscriber. The streamer is home to some fantastic shows, many of which no other network or creator would take a chance on. Sadly, far too often, a great show only lasts one season, with Netflix canceling them for sometimes little rhyme or reason.
2024 was no different, with several shows ending. To be fair, a few weren’t that good, so they likely deserved the axing. Others just were rather forgettable so no big loss. But then there are a few shows that had great critical acclaim and amassed a loyal following, only to be canceled with little warning.
It’s aggravating and worse when some seem to have been given little chance to grow. Here are the shows Netflix has canceled in 2024 that really stick in the craw of...

That ’70s Show might’ve been the ultimate nostalgia trip, but even the most iconic sitcoms have their growing pains. Turns out, those early episodes weren’t as smooth as they looked—at least if you ask Topher Grace. The actor didn’t hold back when pointing fingers at the main cast for a major misstep in the show’s early days. Yep, the gang we’ve come to love had their own chemistry issues before they found that magic groove.

Whether it was rookie nerves or just clashing vibes, the cast wasn’t exactly giving Emmy-worthy performances right out of the gate. But hey, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and That ’70s Show eventually became a cult classic. A little awkwardness? Totally worth it.

Kurtwood Smith’s Red Forman wasn’t just another sitcom dad—he was a gruff, sarcastic masterpiece with a heart hidden under layers of tough love. Fans of That ’70s Show couldn’t get enough of Red’s biting humor and no-nonsense wisdom. But what made this character so iconic? The actor once revealed that Red’s attitude, voice, and even his walk were inspired by someone very personal.

While we’ve all laughed at Red’s legendary burns, there’s a bittersweet story behind his creation that gives his character even more depth. Let’s just say the man behind the inspiration never got to see himself immortalized.

Imagine That ’70s Show without Topher Grace as Eric Foreman—the glue of the gang, the awkward yet lovable nerd we all rooted for. Now, picture an SNL comedian stepping into those vintage bell-bottoms instead. Sounds wild, right? Well, it almost happened. Before Grace landed the role, the producers considered a big-name funny guy to lead the Point Place crew.

But here’s the kicker: his style of comedy would’ve flipped the show on its head, and not in a good way. The subtle charm and relatable awkwardness that made Eric a fan favorite? Yeah, gone. Instead, the basement vibes might’ve felt more like a stand-up gig gone wrong. Let’s just say it’s a casting bullet we’re all glad they dodged.

News that Netflix canceled That 90s Show after its two-season run just dropped recently, but viewers may not have to give up hope that the show could land somewhere else. Per Deadline, producers of That 90s Show, a spinoff of That 70s Show, are contemplating shopping the series to other networks.
Deadline added that moving a show that is a Netflix original to another home can come with many limitations, which can make a traditional TV or cable network the most realistic option. For instance, when One Day at a Time was canceled by Netflix, it moved to the Pop network, which is a similar approach the That 90s Show producers could take.

Another Netflix series has now fallen under the merciless ax of the streaming platform, with the cast of That '90s Show reacting to the recent disappointing news. The initial announcement of the cancelation was made by star Kurtwood Smith, who took to Instagram to thank fans and reveal that Netflix will not be renewing That 90s Show for Season 3. Since the news broke, the rest of the cast have been reacting, with many of them heaping praise on Smith, who reprized the role of That 70s Shows Red Forman in the sequel series.

That '90s Show, once a hit Netflix sitcom, has been canceled by the streaming service after the conclusion of its second season, and there's a fairly simple reason why. That '90s Show is a sequel to the beloved sitcom That '70s Show. It stars Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), and features some cameos from the rest of the cast of That '70s Show. Despite its cast and its connection to a classic comedy show, however, That '90s Show season 3 was canceled by Netflix.
That '90s Show season 2 was split into two parts, and the second part was released on August 22. That '90s Show season 2 part 2 was originally intended to be released on October 24, but the date was moved up. While that does mean that the show's second season finished before the cancelation, the news puts the fate of That '90s Show season 3 into jeopardy.

That '90s Show is set to end, bringing a conclusion to the well-received sequel series to That '70s Show. Star Kurtwood Smith, who made the unfortunate confirmation, gets honored by his co-stars for being the "best TV Grandpa" during his spells as Red Forman on both shows.
On Smith's Instagram post confirming the cancelation, multiple co-stars took to the comments to praise him for his work on That '90s Show and his on-set personality. Mace Coronel, who portrayed Jay Kelso in the sequel series, said to Smith, Such an honor to meet and work with you, to which Smith replied, Mace, youre a wonderful young man with a ton of talent to go along with it it was [a] pleasure every day to see and work with you! It looks like the next generation of Forman and friends won’t get to experience Y2K as Netflix has decided not to continue with episodes of That 90s Show. The sitcom was a legacy continuation of the popular Fox series That 70s Show, which ironically started a couple of years after when this last season of That 90s Show takes place. The news of Netflix’s cancellation was confirmed by one of the show’s stars, Kurtwood Smith, who portrays Red Forman, as he posted on his Instagram about the news.

As it turns out, fans of That 90s Show may not be all alright. After two seasons on Netflix, the That 70s Show sequel did not get picked up for Season 3. The cancellation news is a hard pill to swallow for many reasons. Following Eric (Topher Grace) and Donnas (Laura Prepon) daughter Leia (Callie Haverda), as she spends time at her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kittys (Debra Jo Rupp) house, the series had a lot going for it. That 90's Show spent time on Netflixs Top 10 and had few locations. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, most of the activity occurred in the Formans basement or kitchen and would be relatively cheap to film. With a heavy heart, Smith broke the news to fans in an Instagram post.

Netflix is not proceeding with more installments of That ’90s Show, Deadline has learned. The news was confirmed on Instagram by star Kurtwood Smith who indicated that the comedy will be shopped elsewhere.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for That '90s Show part 3!While That 90s Show parts 2 and 3 were able to cleverly avoid bringing back Topher Graces Eric Forman, the characters absence is becoming more difficult to justify. That 90s Shows cast of characters is centered around Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the teenage daughter of That 70s Shows Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon), as she spends her summer vacations in Point Place with her grandparents, Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and Red Forman (Kurtwood Smith). With Red and Kitty taking over as Leias guardians in the sitcom, Donna and Eric have taken the backseat in the sequel series.
However, while Eric and Donna live in Chicago rather than Point Place, Laura Prepon frequently appears as Leias mother when she comes to visit in That 90s Show. Given how often Donna returns during each batch of episodes, it makes Erics absence far more noticeable.

It was 30 years ago when Lisa Loeb made history as the first Billboard number-one single for an artist without a recording contract. The song was “Stay (I Missed You),” which became synonymous with the 1994 romantic dramedy Reality Bites. Since then Loeb and her iconic tune have been fun fixtures throughout television, movies, and even commercials. She most recently even appeared on That ‘90s Show during a dream sequence with Callie Haverda’s Leia Forman in the star’s signature look. Coming off the cameo and release of her new collaborative album with The Hollow Trees, we thought it would be fun to reminisce with the Grammy-winnner about some of her favorite TV guest spots. Congrats on the new music. I read there are some inspirations for “That’s What It’s All About” in particular taken from TV shows like The Little Rascals and The Three Stooges. Tell me a bit about that.

Quick Links The Setup in That '90s Show Season 1 That '90s Show Found Its Voice in Season 2 That '90s Show Can Stand on Its Own
Hello Wisconsin! The second half of That '90s Show Season 2 was recently released on Netflix. The newest batch of episodes continued to follow the teenage adventures of Eric and Donna's daughter Leia and her group of friends in Point Place. That '90s Show has had a difficult task in its two seasons on air. It has to stay faithful to the original series while setting itself apart with a new identity (and living up to its decade). While the first season consisted primarily of Leia finding her place within the new circle of friends, the second outing built and expanded on the established character dynamics.

That '90s Show Part 3 featured a recreation of the iconic opening credits sequence from flagship series That '70s Show. Director Laura Prepon, who played Donna Pinciotti in the original show, recently reflected on the "awesome" experience.
"Oh my gosh, that was so awesome," Prepon told Entertainment Weekly. "That was totally surreal. And a lot more people had to squish into the Vista Cruiser for this one. It was really fun. The first time they played the song and we were all singing I just got chills. I'm like, 'This is so awesome that they're doing this.' And I love that that was written into the show. It just brought me right back but now, I'm outside the car directing the scene, and it just filled my heart."

What happens when Jay and Silent Bob crash a car into your grandparents’ kitchen while you’re spending your summer vacation at their house? Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) is about to find out when That ’90s Show returns for Part 3, with 10 new episodes directed by her TV mom, That ’70s Show star (and That ’90s Show guest star) Laura Prepon.
Well, sort of. To start, while Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes are dressed as their famous characters from Clerks, they’re not playing them on the 1996-set series. That would probably cause a tear in the time-space continuum, because Callie rents Clerks in Season 1. Instead, Smith plays Sonny, the son of Tommy Chong’s Leo, and Mewes plays his friend Bunch.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “That ’90s Show” Part 3.
“That ’90s Show” closed out its third season with a shakeup in dynamics, with the future of Laura Prepon’s character intentionally left “open-ended,” according to Prepon.
As summer in Point Place started to wind down, Donna (Prepon) revealed to Leia (Callie Haverda) in Part 3’s penultimate episode that her father, Eric scored his dream job in California. Donna told Leia she could spend the school year in Point Place as well, while Donna commutes between her job in Chicago, Point Place and the West Coast — a suggestion which Leia immediately jumped at.
With Leia’s friendships and relationships cemented in Point Place, Donna eventually agreed to the plan, which Prepon, who also directed all the episodes in Part 3, said was fueled by knowing how badly Leia wants this dream to be a reality.

If you're looking to relish in some '90s nostalgia, there's no better show to watch than That '90s Show. The sequel series to That '70s Show takes place in 1996 and pays homage to multiple iconic and nostalgic pop culture references from the decade, from its parody sequences (Doug! Clueless! Pulp Fiction!) to its music to its episode titles. It's a hilarious time capsule that will unlock so many memories for '90s kids.
While the first season of That '90s Show featured episode titles that directly referenced situations in the episode, the second season — a.k.a. parts 2 and 3 — picked up a tradition from its sire series. Beginning with the fifth season, every season of That '70s Show dedicated its episode titles to a popular band from the '70s. Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Queen were all honored.

Given that summer had just arrived when That '90s Show Part 2 premiered back in June, it's only fitting that Part 3 brings Summer 2024 (and Summer 1996) to a close. Where Part 1 was more of a callback to the original series, and Part 2 distinguished itself by breaking away from the That '70s Show to focus more squarely on Leia (Callie Haverda) and her friends, Part 3 now falls somewhere in the middle, acting partly as a continuation of Part 2 and partly as an exercise in nostalgia.

Warning: Spoilers ahead from the That '90s Show part 3 finale.
That '90s Show part 3 has arrived and brought the teen sitcom's full second season to a close with even more hilarious and innuendo-laden adventures in Point Place, Wisconsin. Leia's growing up quickly and becoming more confident in herself thanks to her friends, but will she be staying put in Point Place for the foreseeable future?
When we last left the next generation of teens coming of age in the Forman basement, a car crashed into the kitchen during a party while Red and Kitty are in Paris. The consequences of the party and the gaping hole in the Forman home will be memorable, as is part 3's addition of Kelso's daughter and Jay's older sister Betsy. Lots of drama unfold just before school begins.

Fans of “That ’90s Show” can expect new episodes sooner than they previously anticipated. Part 3 of the Netflix comedy’s second season will now premiere on Aug. 22 rather than the previously announced Oct. 24.
Season 2 of the “That ’70s Show” spinoff was divided into multiple parts, an increasingly common trend for the streamer. The first half premiered in June. Netflix announced the news on X via its Netflix Is a Joke account on Tuesday.
“That ’90s Show” first premiered in January 2023. During its first season, all 10 episodes were released at once.
Set during the summer of 1995 and ’96, the comedy revolves around Leia Forman (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). 15 years after the events of “That ’70s Show,” Leia spends the summer in Point Place, Wis., with her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and finds her own group of misfit friends.

Red's new hobby of model trains in "That '90s Show" is a callback to a previous episode of "That '70s Show." Marty Forman only appeared in one episode of "That '70s Show," and his fate remains unclear. Red kept the model train set after Marty allowed him to have it.

Quick Links Who Is Matt Rife? What Is Matt Rifes Role in That 90s Show? The Odd Cameo Remains a Mystery
That 90s Show is shaping up to be a worthy sequel series to That 70s Show. From the return of Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) and their iconic basement to the protagonist Leia (Callie Haverda) as the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), its a fresh new take on the story for a new generation.
Given the time period of the 90s in which the show takes place, its no surprise that That '90s Show has welcomed a long list of guest stars who were popular in that decade. But current-day celebrities with guest starring roles like Matt Rife seem slightly out of place. Not only is Rife's inclusion on the show odd, so is the nature of his character and how he plays into the story.
