‘Aberrance’ Trailer – Preview the First Mongolian Horror Feature Film to Release Theatrically in the U.S.

Freestyle Digital Media has acquired the North American theatrical rights to Mongolian horror film Aberrance and will be bringing the film to U.S. theaters on October 6, 2023.

The video on demand (VOD) and digital release will follow in 2024.

Aberrance marks an impressive milestone as the first Mongolian horror feature to be released theatrically in the U.S., introducing Mongolian cinema to new audiences.

The film had its North American premiere at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival to positive reviews as an Official Selection in the Midnighters section.

Raven Banner Takes On Worldwide Sales For Mongolian SXSW Title ‘Aberrance’

Exclusive: Raven Banner has picked up worldwide sales rights to Mongolian-language horror film Aberrance, which will receive its North American premiere at SXSW in the Midnighters section.

The feature debut of Mongolian filmmaker Baatar Batsukh, the film had its world premiere at Oldenburg International Film Festival where it won the festival’s Audacity Award, given to a film that breaks new ground artistically.

Filmed in Mongolia, Aberrance tells the story of a couple who rent a cabin deep in the woods to get some rest from their busy life in the city. But their odd behavior causes a neighbor to grow suspicious, and as he starts to dig deeper, more questions and trouble arise.

Directed by Batsukh and written by Batsukh and Byambasuren Ganbat, the film stars Erkhembayar Ganbat, Selenge Chadraabal, Yalalt Namsrai, Oyundary Jamsranjav, Sukhee Ariunbyamba, Bayarsanaa Batchuluun and Badamtsetseg Batmunkh.

Toronto-based genre sales specialist Raven Banner has launched worldwide sales in Cannes on a sequel to its Finnish superhero film Rendel.

Producers Black Lion Pictures and Frozen Flame Pictures are planning an early 2019 shoot on Rendel 2, which sees Jesse Haaja return to directing duties. Raven Banner licensed Rendel in more than 60 countries.

“I can’t even describe how excited I am for this,” Haaja said of the ongoing saga of the masked avenger who fights a criminal organisation. “It was my lifelong dream to get Rendel to the big screens.
