- Dutch engineer who worked for Philips and invented the audio cassette tape in 1962. It was introduced on August 30, 1963, at the Berlin Radio Show, and in America in November 1964. The team at Philips was led by Ottens in Hasselt, Belgium. Later, he was part of the team for the development of the compact disc.
