New projects by Ildikó Enyedi, Rubika Shah and Vero Cratzborn have been backed by the Cnc and Ffa’s Franco-German co-production fund at its first session of 2023.

A total of €450,000 production support was awarded to Enyedi’s next feature Silent Friend which has been structured as a co-production between lead producer Cologne-based Pandora Film with France’s Galatée Films, Hungary’s Inforg M&m Film and China’s Rediance Films.

The film focuses on an ancient tree in the Botanical Gardens of the university town of Marburg to explore the relationship between man and nature.

According to Thierry Frémaux, Cannes Film Festival Director, this past year has been an outstanding year for French production and the submissions received for consideration were of exceptional quality. Five French films are in competition in the official selection and will have the honor to be presented at the red carpet events, there are also numerous coproductions, films screening out-of-competition and others in the parallel sections.

Abderrahmane Sissako to head the Cinéfondation and Short Films jury.

With the Official Selection of features for the 68th Cannes Film Festival set to be revealed tomorrow (April 16), the line-up of Short Films has been unveiled in advance.

This year the Selection Committee received 4,550 short films – 1,000 more than in 2014 – from more than 100 countries.

Nine films (including one animation) will compete for the Short Film Palme d’or, to be awarded by Timbuktu director Abderrahmane Sissako, president of the Cinéfondation and Short Films jury, at the festival’s awards ceremony on May 24.
