Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
The CW Announces 2015-2016 Fall TV Schedule with Trailers
Grant Gustin in Flash (2014)
Wrapping up its most watched season in seven years, The CW Network presented its 2015-16 broadcast schedule today to advertisers, affiliates and national media at New York City Center in New York City. The indie-pop band Of Monsters and Men kicked off the presentation with a live performance of their latest single "Crystals," and their international hit song "Little Talks." Here's what CW's Mark Pedowitz had to say in a statement.

"This has been a terrific season for The CW, and is a result of a strategy we set in motion a few years ago to broaden out and grow our audience. We had our most watched season, and our highest-rated season among men, in seven years. We launched The CW's most watched series ever with The Flash, and with The Flash and Jane the Virgin, we received more critical acclaim than ever before. The CW is heading into...

iZombie, Ep. 1.09: “Patriot Brains” says goodbye to a key character
Rose McIver

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 9: “Patriot Brains”

Written by Robert Forman[/link]

Directed by Guy Bee

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW

The end of last week’s episode brought the startling revelation that Lowell’s breakfast consisted of Jerome’s brains, and that his supplier was none other than Blaine himself, as Liv discovered both facts via flashback. This realisation also brought Liv to the closest she’s ever been to Blaine’s operation, giving her an idea of what exactly he’s been doing. This week’s episode sees her delve more deeply into the mechanics of Blaine’s actions, and come to a decision, while Lowell himself faces the scarier aspects of being a zombie, in a compelling episode.

Lowell’s arc over the course of the episode makes for a fascinating watch. It’s understandable that many zombies would only be concerned with self-survival,...

'iZombie' Q&A: David Anders
David Anders
David Anders as Blaine DeBeers and Rahul Kohli as Dr. Ravi (The CW)

He may be part of the undead, but Blaine DeBeers is living life to the fullest on The CW's "iZombie."

"I think he's fully realizing his potential for awful, maybe," David Anders told Access Hollywood of his character, who turned the bad thing that happened to him (being turned into a zombie) into an opportunity to become a very powerful (but kind of charming) bad guy.

Since he realized zombie-ism comes with more than just pale skin tones and white hair, David's ...

Rob Thomas
'iZombie' Renewed for Season 2 on The CW
Rob Thomas
iZombie series creator Rob Thomas revealed earlier today that the hit series was renewed for a second season. The CW Network hasn't confirmed how many episodes were ordered, or if iZombie Season 2 will debut in midseason once again, or if it will get a fall 2015 debut on The CW. The series debuted on March 17, with 2.34 million viewers tuning in for the premiere.

The show centers on Rose McIver's Olivia "Liv" Moore, a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out... until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. As one of the newly undead, Liv has devised a way to resist her baser urges to devour fresh human brains - she's taken a job in the Seattle coroner's office. In this appropriately dead-end job, she can secretly snack on the brains of the many Jane and John...

iZombie, Ep. 1.08: “Dead Air” pushes some characters towards big revelations
Aly Michalka, Rose McIver

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 8: “Dead Air”

Written by Aiyana White

Directed by Zetna Fuentes

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW

Major’s attempts to expose the police’s apparent lack of concern over the missing skate park kids last week backfired in grand fashion, as he found himself locked up in a cell with a group of thugs who didn’t seem intent on befriending him. This week’s episode sees Major, clearly shaken by the fact that he spotted Julian transporting a human brain, double down on his research, alienating people along the way. Meanwhile, Ravi gets closer to finding a cure for being undead, while Liv gets a shock about Lowell in another compelling episode.

Major’s increasing isolation and obsession with Julian and the operation he’s running is a fascinating aspect of this week’s episode. If Suzuki and the...

Stephen Amell in Arrow (2012)
Brainy CW renews 'iZombie' for Season 2
Stephen Amell in Arrow (2012)
The CW already had very few shows on the bubble with upfronts looming next week and now the network has one fewer. As was fully expected, The CW has picked up "iZombie" for Season 2, joining a daunting number of shows already renewed for next year. With so much inventory, The CW is not announcing an episode order or return timetable for the DC Comics adaptation. "iZombie" joins "The 100," "Arrow," "The Flash," "Jane the Virgin," "Supernatural," "The Vampire Diaries," "The Originals," "Reign" and even "Beauty and the Beast" on The CW's extended slate for the 2015-2016 season.  Since The CW only has 10 hours of weekly programming space and since the network is also expected to pick up a currently-untitled "Arrow"/"Flash" spinoff and since The CW's fall is likely to include a few things like the ending of an "America's Next Top Model" cycle and possibly "Whose Line Is It Anyway,...

iZombie, Ep. 1.04: “Liv and Let Clive” fleshes out secondary characters
Rose McIver

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 4: “Liv and Let Clive”

Written by Kit Boss

Directed by John Kretchmer

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW

Despite Blaine’s protests to the contrary, it was clear early on that he was up to no good, something Liv picked up on instinctively. As a human, Blaine was a drug pusher, and as a zombie, his criminal tendencies were not only still intact, but had seemingly expanded to include extortion and murder. This week’s episode shows the full extent of Blaine’s growing criminal empire, and the lengths he’s going to to get brains, in an enjoyable episode that also fleshes out some of Clive Babineax’s history.

Blaine continues to be a fascinating character, and the insight provided towards his operations this week paint an intriguing picture. While earlier episodes indicated that Blaine saw his zombification as an opportunity to expand his criminal activities,...

WonderCon: Why iZOMBIE Will Never Adhere to Its Comic Predecessor
A witty erudite blonde solves crimes whilst attempting to overcome the emotional baggage of a previous trauma. For all intents and purposes, Rob Thomas’ iZombie is Veronica Mars - except instead of playing in the shadows of film-noir, Thomas has his feet firmly planted in the ever-popular zombie genre. It’s a welcome mix of the familiar (the aforementioned blonde solving crimes) and the new (said aforementioned blonde is a recently un-dead zombie). Instead of dealing with the murky grey morality of V-Mars, iZombie seems to be concerned with the existential pangs of an existence that has already ended. That the show’s able to ruminate on such meaty topics in between an onslaught of pop-culture jabs and puns shouldn’t come as a surprise. Thomas has always had a deft touch in blending theological musings with a sharp sense of humor. Such was evident at today’s WonderCon panel for the series.

iZombie, Ep. 1.03: “The Exterminator” focuses on Liv’s friendships
Rahul Kohli, Rose McIver

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 3: “The Exterminator”

Story by Rob Thomas, Teleplay by Graham Norris and Lee Arcuri

Directed by Michael Fields

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW

Last week’s episode of iZombie established what the pilot hinted at; that Liv wasn’t the only survivor from the boat party gone awry, and that whatever had affected her and turned her into a zombie had affected others too. While the discovery of Blaine came only with the prior history of his off-putting behaviour on the boat and his active role in her death, this week sees Liv and Ravi come across yet another zombie, one whom Liv has a closer connection with. This forces Liv to make some difficult choices, in a strong episode that helps develop a key secondary character.

Watching how Liv deals with Marcy provides some fascinating insight into the former’s current mindset.

iZombie: Season One Ratings
The Walking Dead has become an incredibly successful TV show on cable television. Now, The CW is trying their own zombie genre series. Will it be a ratings success as well? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.

Loosely based on a comic book series, iZombie revolves around an over-achieving medical resident (Rose McIver) who ends up as a zombie. She's able to keep her new condition a secret from her loved ones and, thanks to knowledge gained from dining on cadaver brains, is also able to help the police solve murders. The rest of the cast includes Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley, and David Anders.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as...

iZombie Review – TV CW – A Zombie Show With Brains. Really.
When a new series comes along that boasts being from the creators of Veronica Mars (among other things it boasts about), that will pull in audiences, but it also sets itself up for a difficult time living up to expectations.

iZombie, the new… criminal investigation meets, well, zombies… show from the CW has a lot to recommend, even just in the theory, but it has to really wow to deliver on the hopes of those who are going to bother to tune in for something called iZombie, and it does.

Rose McIver stars as Liv Moore (ha), a type-a medical student who finds herself turned into a zombie at a boat-party gone wrong. Without a lot of options for procuring brains, she takes a job at the city morgue. Her boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), has caught on, and finally catches her in the act of brain consumption, but...

iZombie, Ep. 1.02: “Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?” continues building on the show’s strengths
David Anders, Rahul Kohli

iZombie, Season 1, Episode 2, “Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?”

Written by Diane Ruggiero-Wright

Directed by John Kretchmer

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on The CW

The final scene of last week’s series premiere of iZombie showed that Liv wasn’t the only person who was turned into a zombie on the night of the boat party. It also showed Liv with a renewed dedication to living her life, even if she was part of the undead at this point. This week’s episode delves deeper into both aspects, as Liv taking on the traits of a passionate painter leaves her questioning the mark she’s made on the world, while her search for fellow zombie Blaine brings him to her morgue. The result is another enjoyable episode that shows a different way to handle being a zombie, while establishing that Liv’s path won’t be easy.

iZombie episode 1 review: Pilot
An undead, much more sharply written Tru Calling from the creator of Veronica Mars? Sign us up for The CW's latest series, iZombie...

This review contains spoilers.

1.1 Pilot

Zombies, like most other fictional monsters in popular culture, are often best when used as metaphors for recognisable human things. It’s why teen shows have been so quick to adopt a fantasy angle ever since Buffy The Vampire Slayer introduced the ‘high school is hell’ theme back in the late 90s.

Now, though, the trendy thing is to have your protagonist be the monster, and iZombie – Rob Thomas’ latest – sees the zombie sub-genre finally reach that crucial point in its cycle.

Our set-up is this – promising, over-achieving doctor Liv (Rose McIver) goes to a boat party that happens to be hit by a sudden zombie outbreak. She wakes up in a body-bag, realises she’s (un)dead, and we then pick...

iZombie: Did The CW's New Drama Leave You Hungry for More?
Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, and Jon Cryer in Rose bonbon (1986)
Being a member of the walking dead can take the life right outta you, as iZombie protagonist Liv learns in the premiere of the CW’s new series.

Aside from the whole barely-alive-albino-skin-wanna-eat-brains-24/7 thing, Liv (played by Once Upon a Time‘s Rose McIver) finds out that one of the biggest bummers of zombification is that you just don’t care about much anymore. Not about your burgeoning career as a heart surgeon. Not about your super hot, super understanding ex-fiancé, Major (Robert Buckley, One Tree Hill). Not about your friend and roomie, Peyton (Aly Michalka, Hellcats).

‘iZombie’ Review: CW’s Fun Police Procedural Has the Right Mix of Sleuthing and Snogging
Rose McIver
With a human flush, “iZombie” star Rose McIver, who plays young hospital resident Liv Moore, passes for any endearing sitcom actress — attractive and peppy with an easy smile. When McIver’s eyes first pop open as Liv Moore, sullen zombie crime fighter, they really pop against that pale skin. She’s a decomposing Disney princess, a living-dead Tinkerbell (the role she played on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” — minus the brain cravings). Add to the native New Zealander’s charm a solid supporting cast and the likeable characters they play — including Rahul Kohli as police morgue supervisor Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti,...

'iZombie' Clips: Liv Goes Into Full-On Zombie Mode
Rose McIver
Rose McIver's Liv gets some zombie company in the first of two new clips from the Pilot episode of CW's iZombie, debuting March 17. David Anders plays Blaine, a fellow member of the undead, who explains to Liv that the man he was chasing in her vision tried to mug him, causing him to "rage out." Blaine also wants to know if she has a special term for what happens when she sees visions of dead people's lives, by eating their brains, which she calls "full-on zombie mode." Unfortunately for Blaine, Liv doesn't exactly take to his catch-phrase "raging out." The second clip shows Liv and her boss at the coroner's office with Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli) discussing the possibility of a zombie outbreak, before Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) bursts in.

The series centers on Olivia "Liv" Moore, a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out.

After Liv's change, she becomes disengaged, breaking things off with her fiance, Major (Robert Buckley), and taking a new job – in a morgue, working alongside Dr. Ravi (Rahul Kohli). Her new gig provides Liv prime access to her new food of choice – human brains, which also happen ...

Rose McIver Doesn’t Look or Act Much Like a Zombie in First ‘iZombie’ Trailer (Video)
Rose McIver
Hardcore zombie fans probably won’t be impressed by the CW’s walking dead, since “iZombie” star Rose McIver looks or acts nothing like a corpse in the first trailer for the new series.

In fact, she mostly looks like a pretty teenager going through a goth phase, thanks to white face make-up and extra mascara around the eyes.

First Trailer For The CW’s iZombie Sees Rose McIver Hiding In Plain Sight
It appears The CW is taking cues from television’s seemingly insatiable desire for zombie action by pushing ahead with a new dramedy entitled iZombie.

Starring Rose McIver in the title role, the series will orbit around her character of Olivia “Liv” Moore, a former medical student who succumbs to a virus that transforms her into a rather insightful flesh-eater. But The Walking Dead this is not, as The CW’s rendition of zombies is much more passive given that the overarching story seems to revolve around Liv’s efforts to blend into society without her family and friends ever discovering her darkest secret.

Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley and David Anders will also star in the show and while the core concept isn’t exactly revolutionary, the first look trailer does a good job of showcasing iZombie‘s innate potential.

The CW’s flesh-eating drama will make its debut on Tuesday,...

As one of the newly undead, Liv has devised a way to resist her baser urges to devour fresh human brains - she's taken a job in the Seattle coroner's office. In this appropriately dead-end job, she can secretly snack on the brains of the many Jane and John Doe corpses...

Kristen Bell in Veronica Mars (2004)
'iZombie' crew on eating fake brains, 'Veronica Mars' comparisons & more
Kristen Bell in Veronica Mars (2004)
Rob Thomas is a writer, so he's obviously concerned with story and character and other matters creative. But he's also a veteran writer/producer — and, as creator of "Veronica Mars," a man who had to do a lot of selling over the last couple of years — so he also is well aware of when art has to bend for commerce. So when Thomas — who, with fellow "Veronica Mars" vet Diane Ruggiero-Wright, has adapted the Vertigo comic "iZombie" for the CW — was asked why Rose McIver's character, Liv, doesn't bother with spray tanning, hair dye, or other attempts to disguise her condition as an intelligent zombie, he was very blunt. "In some ways, it's the least logical decision she could make," he admitted, since many of the show's other zombies (notably David Anders as a drug-dealing zombie named Blaine) do make an effort to look more normal. "The truth...
