With the United States of America's general presidential election coming up fast, Vice President Kamala Harris is bringing out the big guns Oscar winner Viola Davis and multi-award winning musician Beyonc to convince the people that a vote for her is exactly what the country needs and deserves ahead of her match-up against former President Donald Trump.

Davis is heard narrating the story of Harris' mother in the clip (via Variety), which also features "Freedom" by Beyonc, the campaign's anthem for these last few months.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has released a campaign video highlighting her mother Shyamala Gopalan’s legacy, with actress Viola Davis providing narration. The clip, titled “Mother,” discusses the Harris’ mother, an Indian immigrant who arrived in the U.S. at age 19 and became a cancer researcher and raised two daughters, Kamala and Maya Harris.

“Something cracks open inside you when you become a mother,” Davis says in the video. “You realize long after you’re gone, these children will be your legacy.”

Her mother’s principles, such as to...

Viola Davis Narrates Kamala Harris Campaign Video: ‘It’s Time for a New Generation of Leadership’
Image
With less than 24 hours to go before Election Day, the Harris-Walz campaign has released a new video narrated by Viola Davis.

Titled “Mother,” the 90-second spot begins with the Oscar winner telling the story of Harris’ mother Shyamala Gopalan Harris. “Something cracks open inside you when you become a mother,” Davis says. “You realize long after you’re gone, these children will be your legacy.”

As a photo of Shyamala is shown, Davis says, “This mother came to America at 19 years old. She stood five-feet tall, but she stood tall, becoming a cancer researcher, birthing two daughters – Kamala and Maya. And with them she birthed her legacy.

“She taught them to believe in themselves and to stand up for others,” she continues. “It’s what made Kamala become a prosecutor who fought for justice, an attorney general who took on corporations to protect working people, a senator and vice president...

Kamala Harris Once Took Her Cousin to a Bad Religion Concert
Image
Vice President Kamala Harris is known for being a hip-hop, soul, and jazz fan, but now we know she has dabbled in punk rock on at least one occasion. In a recent interview with Efe, Harris’ younger cousin Sharada Balachandran Orihuela recalled the two of them attending a Bad Religion show in the early 2000s.

Orihuela’s father, Gopalan Balachandran, is Harris’ uncle on her mother’s side, meaning they share the same Indian grandparents. While growing up between Mexico and India, Orihuela became a big fan of Bad Religion but never went to one of their concerts.

This all changed when Orihuela moved to Oakland, California in 2001 to attend college. Orihuela went to live with her aunt (and Harris’ mother) Shyamala, allowing her to bond with her older cousin.

At the time, Harris was an assistant district attorney in San Francisco, but the future Democratic presidential nominee still put...

Kamala Harris’ Immigrant Song
Image
“I believe in America” is the first line you hear in The Godfather. A troubled funeral home proprietor by the name of Amerigo Bonasera has come to see Don Corleone to seek revenge for his daughter, wronged by two young Anglo-Saxon men. The movie at its core is an immigrant’s story shorn of bootstrapping Horatio Alger fantasies or any notions of smooth integration into society. The film and book tell rather of old world traditions mingling, enhancing, and corrupting the democratic experiment with often spectacularly bloody results. The America...

DNC: Mindy Kaling Jokes She ‘Courageously Outed Kamala Harris as Indian’ and Praises ‘Values Her Mother Passed Down’
Image
As celebrity host of the third night of the Democratic National Convention, Mindy Kaling took the stage to support the presidential campaign of Kamala Harris, who she said she calls a friend.

After joking that she was “the woman who courageously outed Kamala Harris as Indian in an Instagram cooking video,” Kaling shared her observations from one of the first times she met the vice president:

“She wasn’t Madam Vice President then — she was my senator, and we were filming a video where she came to my home to cook dosas, a South Indian dish,” Kaling recalled. “It’s not every day that a senator comes over, and I was pretty nervous, but when she arrived, we immediately hit it off. We talked about the love we have for our moms, who had both passed away from cancer. Both of our mothers were immigrants from India who came to...
