He was born in Cuba. His father Herman, his mother Sima. He grew up in Bridgeport, Ct. He was educated at Yale College and Yale Drama School in New Haven, Ct.

He served as Artillery Officer during the Korean War, based first at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, then at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. . Braun wrote numerous magazine articles for Esquire, Playboy, the New York Times Sunday Magazine and other misc publications, notably:

"Sendak Raises the Shade on Childhood," NY Times Sunday Mag June 7, 1970 "Shazam! Here Comes Captaincies. Relevant," " May 2, 1971 "Deputy Inspector Fisk: Cop as Social Scientist". " August 24, 1969

"I Mean, My God, If You Can't Produce a Great American Novel For 200 Thou, Pre-sold to the Flicks, What The Hell Hope Is There For American Literature," Esquire, February 1967.

He has written profiles of Billy Graham, Johnny Cash and George C. Scott for Playboy.

Braun has published several books, among them:
