- His mothers side of the family is Czech and his fathers side is Swedish. Even though Joakim grew up in Sweden, speaking Swedish, he has dual Swedish and the Czech citizenship due to his parents.
- He ended up becoming a singer by chance when his band Sabaton in 1999 didn't have one. The plan was that Joakim would sing as he was the least bad and the songwriter of the band just "until they found a singer", but due to his voice and singing winning over fans and band mates, he ended up staying as the front man and lead singer even though it was never a dream of his.
- He enjoys classical music and has cited Johan Sebastian Bach as especially inspiring when asked.
- His first instrument was a Hammond organ and a church organ around the age of 10. He got piano lessons as a child and continues to compose music on keyboards as well as play the keyboards in studio for his band Sabaton.
- He first heard metal music age 3 or 4 on TV with a Twisted Sisters music video in 1984. His mother proceeded to buy little Joakim the Twisted Sisters - Stay Hungry album as a result.
