Iona Firouzabadi is a graduate of the National Film & Television School (MA in Cinematography) and has a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University. She is based in London and represented by Independent Talent as a writer.
In 2017 Film London produced her first short film as writer, 'In Wonderland', starring Louise Brealey (Sherlock) and Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who). It went on to win several awards, including Best Drama (2018) at the prestigious BAFTA qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival. Her second short as writer was also produced by Film London, through BFI NETWORK - 'Martha' premiered at the 63rd London Film Festival in 2019.
At NFTS Iona studied cinematography under Brian Tufano BSC (Trainspotting, Billy Elliot), Sean Bobbitt BSC (Hunger, The Place Beyond the Pines, 12 Years a Slave) and Nina Kellgren BSC (Solomon & Gaenor). Films she has shot have been shown at international festivals - including BAFTA and AMPAS accredited Edinburgh, Flickers' Rhode Island, Austin, Aesthetica and Dubai and at Film4 Fright Fest amongst others. Her graduation animation Fulfilament was nominated for a 2016 Royal Television Society Award. Also in 2016 she shot eleven short films across the UK, Europe and North Africa for Shakespeare's Globe Theatre/BBC iPlayer.
Iona was a founding member of Illuminatrix Rising, a collective of female cinematographers. Prior to film school she worked in promos and documentary television as a camerawoman and shooting director.
