Damian Overton

Damian Overton is an acclaimed Australian writer, director, and producer, celebrated for his emotionally resonant short films that explore themes of identity, connection, and transformation. He grew up in New South Wales and is now based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Overton has a rich independent theatre history that was committed to crafting impactful storytelling. His film journey started later in life and has become his most fulfilling creative path so far. Overton's queer short film Papercut was a breakthrough film project and garnered acclaim, securing selections at the Academy Award qualifying Flickerfest and Cinefest Oz film festivals. His film, Arlo and the Sea, was a success at the internationally recognized SF3 Film festival in Sydney, taking home two awards at their Gala night. The film, set on the Sunshine Coast, delves into themes of loneliness and first love from a queer perspective. Overton's diverse filmography as a screenwriter includes the horror short film Atticus, the comedy A Little Strange, the indie queer drama Chaos and the Spark and the upcoming Sci-fi film Anomaly, showcasing his versatility across genres and his commitment to authentic storytelling.
