Ed Darack is a globally published author and photographer. He has worked on a number of television shows providing explanations for topics ranging from atmospheric phenomena to modern military operations. He has also provided still images and motion footage for shows. He has appeared on the History Channel's "Navy SEALs: America's Secret Warriors" TV Mini-Series documentary where he discussed Operation Red Wings for the "Enemy Territory" episode. He also consulted for this show and provided still images and video footage. He appeared on the Weather Channel's "Secrets of the Earth" TV Series Documentary where he discussed the formation of, witnessing, and photographing a number of atmospheric phenomenon including the green flash and superior mirages for the "Strange Skies" episode. He provided still images of his to complement his on-screen discussions. He appeared on "Titanic's Final Mystery," a TV Movie documentary broadcast on the Smithsonian Channel and the National Geographic Channel where he discussed mirages. He also provided still images to complement his on-screen discussions. Darack has published five non-fiction books to date, including "The Final Mission of Extortion 17: Special Ops, Helicopter Support, SEAL Team Six, and the Deadliest Day of the U.S. War in Afghanistan." Published in hardcover and electronic format by Smithsonian Books with Penguin Random House and as an audiobook by Blackstone Audio, this book details the single deadliest incident for U.S. troops in the war in Afghanistan. He's also the author of "Victory Point: Operations Red Wings and Whalers - The Marine Corps' Battle for Freedom in Afghanistan." Published by Penguin Publishing (now Penguin Random House) in hardcover, paperback, and as an eBook and as an audiobook by Tantor Media, Victory Point chronicles Operation Red Wings and Operation Whalers, two historically significant U.S. military operations in Afghanistan in the summer of 2005. Darack published three books prior to Victory Point, "6194: Denali Solo," chronicling his solo climb of Denali (Mount McKinley), the highest mountain in the United States and the North American continent, "Wind - Water - Sun: A Solo Kayak Journey Along Baja California's Desert Coastline," chronicling an 850 mile solo sea kayak expedition along Mexico's Baja California Peninsula, and "Wild Winds: Adventures in the Highest Andes," about climbing the highest mountains in South America. Darack has published hundreds of feature articles on a wide range of topics for a number of magazines, including three cover articles for Smithsonian's Air & Space magazine (where he's a contributing editor), Newsweek, Weatherwise Magazine (where he's a contributing editor), and a broad host of other publications. His photographic imagery, which is represented by Getty Images, Superstock, and a range of other leading agencies, have been globally used by all forms of media for clients that include The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Newsweek (cover image), Time Magazine (cover image of a special edition), The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, Smithsonian, the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations, Bank of America, Harvard University, Yale University, and many other editorial, commercial, governmental, and institutional clients. Darack has hundreds of cover credits as a photographer.
