A total of 46 films and 27 series will be showcased at the online-only event.

Lukas Dhont’s second feature Close and Olga Lucovnicova’s Last Letters From My Grandma are among the 46 feature and 27 series projects to be showcased at Re>Connext, the annual showcase for films and TV series made in Flanders and Brussels, Belgium.

Close is filmmaker Dhont’s follow-up to Girl, which won the Camera d’Or following its premiere in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2018. Last year, the project was pitched at Re>Connext under the title The Invisible.

Festival launches international competition to be judged by audiences.

The Goteborg Film Festival (Jan 26-Feb 5) has unveiled its 2018 of 399 films from 78 countries.

Amateurs

Gabriela Pilcher’s Amateurs will open the festival and also compete for the lucrative Dragon Award for best Nordic film (full list of competition titles below).

Pilcher, who previously directed festival hit Eat Sleep Die, presents the world premiere of her second feature, which is about a small town in Sweden that hopes to revive its economic activity by bringing in a German discount supermarket. The supermarket brand asks local teenagers to make films about their hometown, but the films don’t turn out as expected.

The festival’s new prize, the Dragon Award for best international film, will be fought over by 20 international films that will be voted on by the festival audience for a $6,000 (Sek 50,000) prize.

Impermanence

International Film Festival Rotterdam (Iffr), which runs 24 Jan to 4 Feb, has announced the full line-up of its Bright Future programme, including the titles that will compete for the Bright Future Award.

The competition for the Bright Future Award 2018, worth €10,000, consists of eighteen debut films, including Impermanence by young Chinese filmmaker Zeng Zeng, German film Ella Und Nell by Aline Chukwuedo and Counting Tiles by Lebanese filmmaker Cynthia Choucair.

Other world premieres include Christopher Makoto Yogi’s debut August At Akiko, The Heart by Swedish filmmaker Fanni Metelius and Egyptian film Poisonous Roses by Ahmed Fawzi Saleh, and La Estrella Errante by Spanish filmmaker Alberto Gracia, who won the Fipresci Award with his feature debut The Fifth Gospel Of Kaspar Hauser at Iffr 2013.
