“Crypto Boy” on Netflix
"Crypto Boy" is the Dutch-produced live-action feature, written and directed by Shady El-Hamus, set in the world of 'cryptocurrency', starring Shahine El-Hamus, Sabri Saad El-Hamus and Minne Koole, now streaming on Netflix:

"...'Amir' (Shahine El-Hamus) is a delivery boy for a burrito restaurant owned by his father 'Omar' (Sabri Saad El-Hamus) in Amsterdam.

"During a food delivery, he stumbles upon an electrifying seminar by 'Roy' (Minne Koole) of 'Crypcore Capital', who leverages a mistrust of flailing institutions to encourage investors to take a risk on his venture.

"Amir is dazzled and gets hooked from the jump, convincing himself of opportunities available by investing small amounts for large returns, despite his father’s insistence that the way to build a life is through the accumulation of hard work.

"After Roy catches Amir making a successful pitch to a prospective client, the company’s newest employee quickly finds himself on a growth trajectory.

‘Crypto Boy’ Review: Netflix’s Father-Son Drama Is Sincerely Made But Is Too Predictable At Times
Image
It’s always the father-son stories that get me. Bicycle Thieves, This Boy’s Life and The Pursuit of Happyness, to name a few. There are so many more. There is just something about them, and the ones I named are at the top of the list, if you know what I mean. Even the ones that are a little shoddy at times generate a lot of emotions in me, especially if they feature a conflict between a father and a son. Netflix’s Crypto Boy has a nice template for its story to work. The beats are there, and the film is shot very well.

Crypto Boy‘s plot revolves around Omar and Amir. There is a bit in the names as well. Amir, the only son of the widower Omar, has great ambition in him, not just to earn money but to ‘generate wealth’, a catchphrase heard at a convention related to cryptocurrency.

Image
Photo: ‘Dirty Lines’ Our Obsession With Zany Entrepreneurs Continues Tis the season for a series revolving around complicated visionary business leaders willing to risk it all for a slice of the pie. No different from Elizabeth Holmes as portrayed in ‘The Dropout’ or Adam Neumann in ‘WeCrashed’, ‘Dirty Lines’ follows the story of Frank and Ramon Stigter, two very different but equally odd brothers who created Europe’s first-ever phone sex line. Paying closer attention to Frank, who is the brains behind the idea, the story is a compelling and fascinating expression of creativity and the will to persevere in spite of tremendous odds. After running several other businesses that he either created on his own or selling the products of other more successful companies, Frank as portrayed by Minne Koole is inspired to shake up the sex work industry with his idea of creating these erotic phone lines. Official Trailer for Dutch Series 'Dirty Lines' About Erotic Phone Lines
Joy Delima, André Dongelmans, Chris Peters, and Minne Koole in Dirty Lines (2022)
"What we do is the future. There is no end to it." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a new series from The Netherlands titled Dirty Lines, created by Dutch filmmaker Pieter Bart Korthuis. The fictional series with 6 episodes to start tells the true story of the very first phone sex line created in Europe in the 80s. Set in 1987 in Amsterdam, an enterprising college student stumbles into a new career at a phone sex line started by two wildly different brothers - known as Teledutch. But being in the business of sexual desires leads them to question their own. It's not only about the two brothers, Frank & Ramon Stigter, but about a number of other people who get involved in the "business" and how it changes them and their views on sex. This looks great! The series stars Joy Delima as Marly, plus Minne Koole & Chris Peters as the brothers Frank & Ramon,...

Netflix Starts Production on Its First Dutch Original Series, ‘Ares’
Netflix has started production on “Ares,” its first Dutch original series, the streaming giant announced Tuesday. Filming is taking place in Amsterdam, where Netflix’s European headquarters have been based since 2015. “Ares” will launch on the platform later this year.

An eight-part psychological horror, “Ares” stars Jade Olieberg, Tobias Kersloot, Lisa Smit, Robin Boissevain, and Frieda Barnhard. It is directed by Giancarlo Sanchez and Michiel ten Horn with script development run by Michael Leendertse for production company Pupkin.

Plans for a then-untitled first Dutch production from Pupkin were first announced in April 2018. Erik Barmack, Netflix’s vice president of international original series, said at the time that a Dutch original had been on Netflix’s “wish list” for some time.

Created by Pieter Kuijpers, the series enters the world of a secret student society in the heart of Amsterdam where best friends Rosa (Olieberg) and Jacob (Kersloot) surrender to a world of wealth and power.
