With Boston Blue due to bring back the character of Danny Reagan, fans of the original Blue Bloods series would love to see other characters from the original show make an appearance. This new show will follow Danny in what is called an “expansion” of the universe surrounding the series as he moves to Boston to work for the police department.
The series will follow Danny and a new law enforcement family: the Silver family. Lena Silver is his detective partner; her mother, Mae, is a District Attorney; her stepsister, Sarah, is the Superintendent of the Police Department; and her younger brother, Jonah, works as a rookie cop.
The roles within the family are similar to those of Danny’s family, who are likely still in New York, doing their own thing while going to weekly Sunday dinners. But who would we love to see make an appearance, whether family or someone Danny worked with?...

The rumored Blue Bloods franchise expansion is official. Donnie Wahlberg will reprise his role as Danny Reagan in Boston Blue (working title), and the offshoot’s new casting includes who will be playing Danny’s new partner in Bean Town — Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green as Detective Lena Peters — and her mother, Gloria Reuben, as was revealed on Tuesday, June 10. Black-ish alum Marcus Scribner was revealed as a the newest series regular on June 11. He’ll play Lena’s younger brother. Wahlberg and Martin-Green announced the latter’s casting themselves at a CBS press event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 7, per Variety. The CBS fall 2025-2026 schedule was also revealed the same day. That confirmed its Fall 2025 premiere window. As you can tell by the name, this series has a new location, and that’s not the only major change. There’s still no word on whether or...

Blue Bloods may have ended after 14 seasons in December 2024, but the good news is that fans will get to continue to see one of the Reagan family on screen. Donnie Wahlberg is reprising his role as Danny Reagan in a new series in the Blue Bloods universe, set to premiere in the fall 2025. And so when better than now to not only test your knowledge of Danny Reagan but also give you a chance to commemorate those 14 seasons of Blue Bloods? Take the quiz below to win a Blue Bloods special issue signed by Donnie Wahlberg himself. Blue Bloods ended with Danny still with the NYPD and even seemingly taking a step forward with his partner, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). We’ll have to see what the new show, which was given a straight-to-series order in February 2025, reveals about that relationship, given that, at least so far, Ramirez is not part of its cast.

With so many things working against the new Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, I’m doubtful it will survive.
So far, Boston Blue is all about Danny Reagan, but the magic of Blue Bloods has always been in how the family survived this business together.
Blue Bloods was about the family business, while Boston Blue looks more like a traditional procedural format. Here is why I think that the lack of family and familiarity could hurt Boston Blue.
(CBS / Peter Kramer) CBS Has Its Work Cut Out For It With the Blue Bloods Spinoff
CBS has a big undertaking trying to spin off the beloved cop family procedural.
Spinning off new incarnations of shows like FBI or NCIS is rote by this point, but Blue Bloods has a different format. Sure, it follows cases like these other shows, but they also add real-life and personal issues.

Among TV procedurals, Blue Bloods was decidedly unique. Rather than focusing on a set of coworkers toiling away while fighting crime, the show focused on a complete family of police officers who were utterly dedicated to protecting their city. They served tirelessly and sacrificed everything for their work — save for their regular family dinners, of course. The show's early cancellation meant that season 14 would be its last. A spin-off, Boston Blue, was quickly greenlit, and that show will follow Donnie Wahlberg's Detective Danny Reagan as he begins his journey in a brand new city.
While Boston Blue will likely be interesting, the Reagan family was the biggest draw of the show. Every single member of the family was compelling and had a dedicated storyline of their own.

There is no bigger Blue Bloods fan that Donnie Wahlberg. The actor has been championing the show since day one, and his enthusiasm for the show actually helped convince co-star Bridget Moynahan to appear in the pilot. It makes sense, then that Wahlberg would be the one to carry the torch into the franchise's future.
Wahlberg will reprise his role as Danny Reagan on Boston Bloods, the spinoff set to premiere during the 2025-26 season on CBS. The network issued a promo confirming the show's release, though it was relatively scant on details and new footage. We actually got way more insight into the show due to Wahlberg's Instagram message following the promo's release.

In the realm of TV in the 2000s, few network shows can compete with the success of "Blue Bloods." Debuting on CBS in 2010, the police procedural enjoyed a ridiculously healthy run, airing 14 seasons and nearly 300 episodes. But all good things do come to an end, with CBS canceling the popular series at the end of 2023. That was rough for fans but fortunately, these characters will live on. Or, at the very least, one very popular character will.
Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan is going to headline his very own spin-off, which will keep the "Blue Bloods" universe alive. Get ready for "Boston Blue." As the title implies, this new show will take Danny to a new location, with a new cast of characters, and new cases for him to crack. So, what do we know about the show? How soon is it happening?...

Following its 14-season, 293-episode run in December 2024, Blue Bloods was given a ceremonious End of Watch call to honor its CBS finale. Far from the last time fans can witness police officer Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) patrol the crime-ridden streets, the new spin-off Boston Blue will follow the character to the Massachusetts capital.
As Reagan relocates from New York to Boston and meets his new Boston Pd colleagues, he buts heads with his new partner, the eldest child in a proud family of Boston cops who know much more about the city and its criminals than Reagan does. Any series finale for a long-time show can provide mixed emotions from fans. Some are happy with the way things end, but if there are any questions left unanswered, viewers can often feel disappointed.
The situation with Blue Bloods and the police drama ending has been sticky for a while now. Star Tom Selleck has been a major advocate for the show continuing as the “third-highest” scripted series on the network, and many fans had hoped that CBS would reverse its decision and keep the show on the air. As the final episode aired this past Friday, December 13 to mixed reviews, viewers are demanding a spin-off, now more than ever.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Blue Bloods series finale.Blue Bloods showrunner Kevin Wade explains why the final episode didn’t kill any Reagans. The CBS procedural explores the dynamics of New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) and his family, who work for the NYPD and Da Office. Along with Selleck, the cast of Blue Bloods includes Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Vanessa Ray, and Donnie Wahlberg. Surprisingly, when the series concluded on December 13, Frank and his family were spared, despite uncertainty regarding any future projects. However, the season 14 finale did see Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan) die from a gunshot wound.
During a recent interview with TV Insider, Wade explained why the Reagan family survived Blue Bloods. An emotional death was part of the plan for season 14, but as he revealed, killing Frank, Danny (Wahlberg) or any other Reagan would not have benefited the series. When it came to choosing Luis,...

[Warning: The following contains major spoilers for the Blue Bloods series finale, “End of Tour.”] Blue Bloods ended its 14-season run with joy and sorrow Friday night with the CBS procedural’s series finale. And for many fans, one of the joys was watching Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) ask out partner Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez). The romantic twist came after Danny got grandfatherly advice from Henry Reagan (Len Cariou). “I always told you not to bring the job home,” Henry told him. “But the problem now is, you have no one not to bring it home to.” Danny took Grandpa’s words to heart, later asking Baez if she wanted to get a pizza. And in a Variety post-finale debrief, Wahlberg said he was “pushing” for that moment. “It was important to [showrunner] Kevin Wade to not have every partnership turn into a relationship. And I respected that, and I agreed with it,” the actor said. “I think it...

The Reagan family are about to sign off the air and it seems someone from CBS’s hit crime drama Blue Bloods won’t be making it out of the series finale alive. The question is who exactly could end up being in danger?
Ahead of the series finale on Friday, Dec. 13, TVLine hinted that the series finale will feature the death of a potentially main character – the term main being the key word.
“I suppose it depends on how you define “main”…?” TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich teased in the site’s Inside Line when asked by a reader whether any main Blue Bloods characters will die in the series finale. This seems to hint a major death of some sort is coming in the series finale, but the mystery remains over who exactly might be the one laid to rest at the funeral scene featured in the promo for the series finale.

Amy Carlson's abrupt departure from Blue Bloods in the Season 8 premiere was a major shock to fans of the long-running CBS series. Carlson played Linda Reagan, a registered nurse and supportive wife of Detective Daniel "Danny" Reagan. She was an integral part of the Blue Bloods cast since the first season and became a series regular in the second.
On Blue Bloods, Linda Reagan's death was unexpected and upsetting, leaving fans extremely disappointed by the unceremonious send-off. The following contains major spoilers from Blue Bloods Season 14, Episode 16, "The Gray Areas," which debuted Friday, Nov. 22 on CBS.
Blue Bloods Season 14, Episode 16 may be called "The Gray Areas," but there's not much for the Reagan family to navigate in the hour. All of the episode's plotlines are relatively easy to solve, and all of them end with the Reagans fixing the problem in one way or another. It serves as an example of how the CBS show is a feel-good, family-oriented procedural worthy of its longtime fan following -- but it's not the best that this series can do.
"The Gray Areas" starts with a veteran NYPD officer becoming a public figure after a life-threatening subway assault, leading to an argument between Frank Reagan and Mayor Chase. Elsewhere, Eddie Janko-Reagan is to the rescue again, this time for her own partner. And the case of the week for Danny...

Tom Selleck thanked CBS for the last eight episodes of popular family cop drama Blue Bloods that begin airing tonight and, when concluded, will mark the end of the show’s impressive 14-season run.
“These eight shows that we can look forward to are because CBS agreed and wanted to do that and celebrate – not only celebrate Blue Bloods but commemorate its legacy. And I just wanted to thank them,” the actor said Thursday night during the show’s panel at PaleyFest in NYC.
The series will have aired nearly 300 episodes when Season 14, Part 2 wraps. Part 1 aired from February to May.
Deadline first reported CBS’ plans to end Blue Bloods’ run almost a year ago. Network executives said later that, “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” acknowledging that the series by EP and showrunner Kevin Wade had been a staple of the lineup.

Although Danny has not dated anyone significant since Linda's death, he has worked closely with Maria Baez since season 4, and in recent seasons their interactions have sometimes implied deeper feelings for one another. Since Blue Bloods only has eight episodes left before it ends permanently, there is little time remaining for Danny to enter a new romantic relationship; however,...
