‘Punch’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Alina Allison, Kierston Wareing, Jamie Lomas, Faye Campbell, Macaulay Cooper, Daniel Fathers, Sarah Alexandra Marks, Mark Sears, Marc Outbreak | Written and Directed by Andy Edwards

Having previously worked on films such as Midnight Peepshow, Graphic Designs, and The Ghosts of Monday, writer/director/producer Andy Edwards opens Punch with the sight of a young woman standing on the edge of a cliff. The grief-stricken look on her face indicates that she wishes to commit suicide, although a hooded figure appears to say inform her how that is not the way to do this. As the girl moves closer to investigate, something happens which makes her scream.

After looking after her ill mother, Frankie (Alina Allison) intends to return to university and finish her degree. She wishes to spend one last night out in her coastal hometown, although her intention at patching things up with her friends, family, and ex-boyfriend...

‘Punch’ Trailer – New Slasher Villain Draws Inspiration From Historical Puppet Show
Tim Roth, Jordan Oosterhof, and Conan Hayes in Punch (2022)
A new slasher is heading our way next month, Punch, featuring a horror villain that borrows from historical puppet show Punch and Judy. A brand new trailer gives a closer look at the Mr. Punch styled killer.

Punch slashes its way onto Digital and VOD on January 16, 2024.

In the film, “Before heading back to university, Frankie craves one final night out in her coastal hometown, but sinister local legend Mr. Punch is on the prowl, and chaos ensues as Frankie and her friends fight for survival in this eerie slasher.”

Watch the trailer below to see Mr. Punch begin his prowl.

Andy Edwards (Midnight Peepshow) wrote and directed the feature.

Kierston Wareing, May Kelly, Dani Thompson, Jamie Lomas, and Mark Sears star in the upcoming horror movie.

The Mr. Punch character and his wife Judy have been around for centuries, with the Punch and Judy puppet show centering around slapstick humor and violence.

‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: May Kelly, Danielle Scott, Harry Boxley, Lila Lasso, Mark Sears, Charlie Esquire, Gillian Broderick, Gaston Alexander, Christine Ann Nyland | Written by Harry Boxley | Directed by Jason Arber

May Kelly, who has starred in a number of low-budget British horror films from producer Scott Jeffrey including seasonal horrors The Killing Tree and Nutcracker Massacre, and taken the lead in such diverse genre fare such as Graphic Desires and Mega Lightning, follows up her appearance in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey with Another “fairy tale” fear flick in Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Based on the nursery rhyme of the same name, the plot of this film is pretty simple. A radio host (Kelly) and her crew set out to discover the truth behind some disappearances for a true crime show. They will soon learn that there is far more to discover when they meet Mary and her [not-so-little] lamb… Yes,...

‘Reign of Chaos’ Review
Image
Stars: Rebecca Finch, Peter Cosgrove, Mark Sears, Rita Di Tuccio, Georgia Wood | Written by Tom Joliffe | Directed by Rebecca Matthews

Proportion Productions are back with a slice of apocalyptic horror directed by Rebecca Matthews, flying solo this time without her partner in crime Scott Jeffrey; and writer Tom Joliffe, who some may know from his work on the website Flickering Myth but has also penned a number of British genre films in recent years, including Tooth Fairy: The Last Extraction, The Legend of Jack and Jill and The Leprechaun’s Curse. So we should know what to expect from Reign of Chaos, whose plot seems a bit more extravagant (i.e. larger scale) than the typical Proportion Productions film.

Reign of Chaos sets its stall out from the get-go, with an opening narration that explains that chaos has ravaged earth, literally (its the god Chaos), with a plague of the gods that is overwhelming mankind,...

‘The Leprechaun’s Game’ Review
Image
Stars: Daniel Sawicki, Louisa Warren, Bao Tieu, Magda Vero, Faith Kiggundu, Zuza Tehanu, Mike Kelson, Antonia Johnstone, Chris Clynes, Mark Sears | Written by Louisa Warren, Shannon Holiday | Directed by Louisa Warren

I’ve often extolled the virtues of Proportion Productions here on Nerdly, however they’re not the only low-budget horror game in town… Britain also has Champ Dog Films. Sometimes collaborators of the aforementioned company (on films like the Unhinged remake), Champ Dog Films is led – for the most part – by actress turned producer/director Louisa Warren, whose output has varied wildly in terms of quality and storytelling… for every Curse of the Scarecrow there’s a Tooth Fairy (and its sequel). Thankfully The Leprechaun’s Game (aka Vengeance of the Leprechaun) falls in the former camp. Just. Though the film is not without its issues, mainly down to relying on the tropes of leprechaun lore.

The Leprechaun’s...

‘Joker Clown’ DVD Review
Peter Cosgrove
Stars: Peter Cosgrove, Sarah T. Cohen, Mark Sears, Yvonne Wan, Jon-Scott Clark, Tommy Vilés, Cassandra French, Hattie Willow, Kate Milner Evans, Mike Kelson, Kate Lush, Kelly Juvilee, Carmina Cordelia, Hannah Rogers | Written and Directed by Scott Jeffrey

For every Child’s Play or Annabelle Comes Home it’s expected that a few low budget alternatives (or “mockbusters” as many call them) would be around at a similar time. Joker Clown though, is also jumping on the bandwagon of It and the sequel It: Chapter 2, so here we have a killer clown and killer doll all in one form!

Why the lead character ‘Lane’ purchased this doll in the first place I have no idea. There’s some attempt at an explanation which basically boils down to ‘she likes horror movies and it looks a bit creepy’ so she offers the local second hand shop seller £50 and it’s hers. Bargain!
