Cheryl's feature documentary 'Rock n Roll Island' was broadcast on BBC4 in 2020 and was named a Sunday Times Critics Choice program. She is working on two other feature documentaries: 'On The Trail of Americana Music' and 'Winning Through' about sport and racism in the UK.
Cheryl has won awards in different art forms and genres: ITV National Diversity Awards 2019 (shortlist); Gold Remi Documentary Film award, Houston USA (winner); Best Short Film, Raindance, London (nomination); International Playwriting Festival, Croydon, (Winner); Raymond Williams' Publishing Prize, Arts Council England, (Winner); WIP Pandora Prize (Winner); Gourmand Special Jury Prize For Peace (winner); Gourmand Best Innovative Foodbook UK (winner: Gourmand Best Sustainable Foodbook UK (winner); People's Book Prize (Shortlist), Marsh Award For Children's Literature in translation (Shortlist), Raymond Williams' Publishing Prize (Shortlist), Roger Leach Memorial Prize (Shortlist), Bruntwood Playwriting Award (longlist), IPG Diversity Award UK 2019 and 2020 (shortlist).
She also founded Aurora Metro Books and has published over 300 writers, many of them international, and handles the adaptation rights for many titles. She initiated The Virginia Prize for Fiction in 2009 and leads the campaign to erect a statue of Virginia Woolf in England. Her books on film - 'Celluloid Ceiling: women directors breaking through' (with Gabrielle Kelly) and 'Silent Women: pioneers of cinema' (with Melody Bridges) have been highly praised and are studied on courses in film schools. She recently launched '50 Women in Theatre' at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London to acclaim.
