Ran Huang(I)

Huang Ran, artist, director, screenwriter and producer. He has a First-Class BA Fine Art Degree from Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (2014) and an MFA Fine Art degree from Goldsmiths College, University of London (2017). As a unique voice in the landscape of contemporary art, Huang is a multidisciplinary artist known primarily for his film and video work, whose practice also encompasses painting, photography, sculpture, installation, drawing and performance. His works have been featured in numerous international exhibitions, including the La Biennale de Lyon, Shanghai Biennale, Jewish Museum New York, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art, CAFA Art Museum, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Japan's Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Kunstmuseum Bonn, etc.

In 2014, Huang's short film The Administration of Glory was selected for the short film competition at the 67th Cannes Film Festival. It marked the first Chinese-language film to be selected for the short film competition. In 2015, the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival awarded Huang the Katrin Cartlidge Foundation Award in recognition of his potential as an emerging director. In 2022, Huang wrote and directed his first feature film What Remains, an English- language film featuring A-list international stars. What Remains was selected for the main competition at the 38th Warsaw International Film Festival (2022) and Locarno Film Festival (2023). In 2023, Huang was invited to serve as a jury member for the competition section of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. Since 2024, Huang has been developing his next feature project, which is an adaptation from Ban Yu's short story novel.
