Derek Kwan is a filmmaker and actor that strives to cook up unique narrative flavors for the screen. He wrote and directed the short film, 100 Days (2023), selected for the Telefilm Not Short on Talent Cannes 2023 Program. Derek also won Outstanding Short Director for 100 Days (2023) at the Reelworld Film Festival 2023. Having garnered experience across narrative and documentary storytelling, Derek was one of eight mid-level producers from across Canada selected as part of the Bell Media / BIPOC TV & Film Unscripted Producers Lab 2023 with a focus on showrunning. Other achievements include, 1st AD on "Different Than Before", Winner of the SXSW 2023 Music Video Jury Award. 1st AD on the feature film Mongrels (2024) with a world premiere at VIFF 2024. Derek Kwan was named one of 20 emerging filmmakers in Canada as part of Reelworld's E20 Program in 2021 and also part of Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices 2022. As a Producer, Derek has worked on Maundy (2022) and Idols Never Die (2019), both Telefilm Not Short on Talent Cannes 2022 and 2019 selections. Derek Kwan can be seen on The Last Airbender (Netflix), Yellowjackets (Showtime), recurring on Nancy Drew (CW), and co-starring on Space Force (Netflix).
