‘Christmas with the Singhs’ Is Not Just a Fun Hallmark Movie — It’s Personal Filmmaking
Image
Hallmark Channel movies can have quite a bit in common with indie movies: Small budgets and tight shooting schedules averaging two weeks. In terms of cinematic values, though, these highly watchable festive gems can also share quite a bit with indies: They’re character-driven, they’re script-driven, and they’re usually about the smaller but more important things in life — meeting someone new, seizing an unexpected opportunity, reviving a long-forgotten passion. They’re about connection and fulfillment. They’re about intimacy rather than production value and spectacle.

By no means are all of the new Hallmark holiday movies each year good. Far from it. Some very much are, though, and cut through the noise. They’re often the ones that end up being re-aired again and again year after year. And, yes, Hallmark movies may have certain repeated tropes. But don’t a good number of Sundance movies, also?

They...

Last season, The Resident's renewal came down to the wire. The ratings are middle-of-the-road, and Fox no longer owns the series (since the studio was sold to Disney). Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

The Resident Inching Closer to Cancellation, According to New Report
Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Manish Dayal, and Anuja Joshi in Le Résident (2018)
The end could be on the horizon for The Resident.

According to TV Line, the medical drama does not stand a great chance of being picked up for a seventh season.

"It's essentially done," a source close to the show told the outlet.

In a word? Whoa.

Despite The Resident Season 6 closing with a finale that functioned as a series-ender, there was still a hope the show would be picked up.

While one person's account of the situation can be wrong, TV Line cites "multiple sources" in its report.

More concerning is that it seems many of the show's props are being sold, which is usually an indication that a project has wrapped.

Fox did tell the outlet that no decision has been made about the show's future, but the show's prognosis is grim.

The Resident Season 6 averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.34 rating among adults 18-49.

With Live+7 viewing factored in,...

‘The Resident’: How The Fox Drama Ended Its Sixth (And Possibly Last) Season
Image
In one of the stranger coincidences of the 2022-23 TV season, two medical dramas said their goodbyes on Tuesday — New Amsterdam on NBC and The Resident on Fox. It was a series finale for the former; as much as creator/showrunner David Schulner and Executive Producer Peter Horton didn’t think their five-year-old series should be canceled, they had enough time to plan a hopeful ending for the Ryan Eggold starrer.

After six seasons on Fox, The Resident hasn’t been canceled … yet. But Tuesday’s finale dubbed “All Hands On Deck” had all the makings of a final farewell. Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) got his happy ending by declaring his love for Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas). Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) came clean about his drug addiction and got to keep his job at Chastain Memorial after saving young Sammie, the granddaughter of Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood...

Was That ‘The Resident’ Series Finale? What We Could See in a Season 7
Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Manish Dayal, and Anuja Joshi in Le Résident (2018)
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 finale, “All Hands on Deck.”] If this is how The Resident goes out, it does so on a happy note. Among the highlights: Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Billie (Jessica Lucas) say, “I love you.” The doctors save Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) granddaughter Sammie and Governor Betz (Steven Culp) — and, therefore, the hospital (thanks to their deal). Bell is entering Devon’s (Manish Dayal) Ms trial. Devon proposes to Leela (Anuja Joshi), who becomes an attending. Showrunner Andrew Chapman explains why that felt like a series finale and shares what we could see if Season 7 is picked up. What can you say about a Season 7? Andrew Chapman: Fingers crossed. We just don’t know. I don’t think that Fox knows. I don’t think anybody really knows. They hold out the possibility, but they won’t pick us up yet. We probably won’t know until April or May.

Padma’s twin, Leela (Anuja Joshi), ends up saving her life. And just as Conrad and Nurse Hundley (Denitra Isler) are heading out at the end of the episode, another gunshot victim comes in, for it to start all over. Showrunner Andrew Chapman, who wrote the episode,...

‘The Resident’ Trailer Teases Tragedy to Kick off Season 6 (Video)
Matt Czuchry
While we may still be wondering if Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) chooses Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) or Dr. Cade Sullivan (new series regular Kaley Ronayne), The Resident Season 6 trailer gives us something to focus on: Will Padma (Aneesha Joshi) and Dr. Aj Austin’s (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) twins survive? ‘The Resident’ Boss Talks Conrad’s Choice, Kit & Bell’s Wedding, and More

‘The Resident’ Boss On Emily VanCamp’s Return And Whether More Nic Flashbacks Are Planned
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from the Season 5 finale of Fox’s The Resident.

Emily VanCamp made her return to Fox’s The Resident in the Season 5 finale tonight and while it was exciting to see Nic Nevin and Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) reunited, alas, it was only in flashbacks.

Conrad has been struggling with moving on romantically after losing the love of his life and the mother of his daughter, but memories could help him overcome some of that anxiety.

Throughout the episode, Conrad revisits the good ol’ days with Nic often getting lost in thought. While at a stoplight in the car with their daughter Gigi, he smiles as he snapped out of a daydream about a particular date with Nic.

He may never find the magic he did with Nic but he can surely love again and move on with his life, as she would want him to.

‘The Resident’: Andrew McCarthy Joins Cast Of Fox Medical Drama
Image
Exclusive: Fox’s The Resident is getting a major new cast addition. Andrew McCarthy has been tapped to recur on the last three episodes of the medical drama’s current fifth season, with an option to become a series regular if The Resident is renewed for a sixth season. As Deadline reported on Friday in our annual Bubble Watch, that is fully expected.

McCarthy will play Dr. Ian Sullivan, a brilliant pediatric surgeon with endless charm that masks a hidden streak of narcissism. He’s a larger-than-life hero to his young patients, but has a complex relationship with his own daughter.

Pretty In Pink and St. Elmo’s Fire alum McCarthy has been largely focused on directing over the past decade; he has helmed 22 episodes of NBC’s The Blacklist and 15 episodes of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, among a slew of other shows. Acting-wise, his most recent major...
