Panic (2021)
Panic Canceled at Amazon
Panic (2021)
It's game over for Panic.

Amazon has opted to cancel the YA drama after a single season, Deadline reports.

The news comes less than three months after its May 28 bow on the streamer.

"In the summer after their senior year, 47 graduates participate in the annual Panic competition," reads the logline.

"Winning Panic with a cash prize of $50,000 will allow them to escape their small Texas town of Carp. After the rules change, however, they must decide what risks they will take in order to escape their home town."

The cast included Olivia Welch, Mike Faist, Jessica Sula, Ray Nicholson, Camron Jones, and Enrique Murciano.

The series was pushed heavily by Amazon, launching with a three-part companion "novella" on Audible, but the series failed to garner much traction.

Previous YA offering The Wilds took off like a lightning bolt for the streamer and has since been renewed for a second season.

‘Panic’ YA Drama Canceled By Amazon After One Season
Image
Exclusive: Amazon Prime Video has opted not to pick up a second season of young adult drama series Panic, starring Camron Jones, Ray Nicholson and Olivia Welch.

Written and created by Lauren Oliver based on her best-selling novel, Panic centered on a small town in America where every year the graduating seniors engage in a competition they believe is their one chance to escape. Panic premiered on May 28 alongside a companion three-part “novella” on sibling Audible written by Oliver and featuring the voices of Jones, Nicholson and Welch.

Despite the company’s support, Panic did not connect with audiences the way fellow YA drama The Wilds did. That, along with the fact that the series’ first season did tell a complete story of the game of Panic,...

Inside Lauren Oliver’s Adaptation of ‘Panic’ and Why She Would Kill Somebody Off in Season 2
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Panic,” streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.

Many fans of Lauren Oliver’s young adult novel “Panic,” following high school seniors who take part in the dangerous eponymous game every year with hopes of winning thousands of dollars to help set up their adult lives, were disappointed when that novel was not turned into a multi-book series, as is common in the genre. In fact, Oliver tells Variety she did want to write it as a book series, so when that didn’t happen, she turned her attention to a new medium: television.

Adapted into a 10-part drama series, “Panic” will stream on Amazon Prime Video seven years after Oliver first published her novel.

“Out of all my books, I wanted to explore it on TV because I loved the community and the town and the opportunity to explore different storylines,...
