The Featherweight follows retired boxer Willie Pep as he tries to mount a career comeback while wrestling with a plethora of family and financial issues in 1964 Hartford, Connecticut. Shot in a pseudo-documentary, cinema verit style on grainy 16Mm stock, the characters break the fourth wall and speak directly to the camera as the plot unfolds. Director Robert Kolodny deserves top marks for creative filmmaking in his debut feature. He expertly recreates Pep's matches while intercutting classic newsreel footage and staged reaction shots. This slice of life perspective and an engaging ensemble keeps your attention span as a predictable narrative wears thin.
James Madio, forever immortalized as "Don't Ask" in Steven Spielberg's Hook as a child actor, stars as the loquacious and headstrong Pep, who won 229 fights, held the featherweight championship twice, and is widely considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time. We're introduced to the 42-year-old...

Hempstead, Long Island-born Mc Roc Marciano has frequently referenced his stage name with his project titles: Marcberg, Marci Beaucoup, Marcielago, to name a few. His new release is Marciology, which dropped with a mystery comic-derived album cover that ominously mentions “a cult…..”
Of course, more than a decade and 11 projects removed from his early days in Busta Rhymes’ orbit, Marciano already has plenty of supporters sipping the Kool-Aid. Since setting his career on a new path with 2011’s Marcberg, he’s spawned a cult fanbase that reveres him for reviving...

Jerusalem, Aug 11 (Ians) Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva drew 0-0 at home against Bulgaria’s Levski Sofia in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
In the presence of 9,000 spectators at the Toto Turner Stadium in Beer Sheva, Levski narrowly missed taking the lead twice in the first half on Thursday evening. Brazilian Ricardinho’s shot in the 30th minute was thwarted by goalkeeper Ofir Marciano, and ten minutes later, another Brazilian, Welton, missed a seemingly certain goal.
Marciano showcased his goalkeeping prowess again in the 54th minute, denying a header by Brazilian Ronaldo, reports Xinhua. Late efforts from Beer Sheva’s Bulgarian international Yoan Stoyanov and Amir Ganah were capably handled by Levski’s goalkeeper Plamen Andreev.
The return leg is set for August 17 in Sofia. The team with the superior aggregate score will square off against Eintracht Frankfurt in the playoffs, contested over two legs.

ESPN’s “SportsCenter” has long seemed like a bastion of guy TV. Not tonight.
When ESPN viewers tune in to the 11 p.m. edition of the long-running sports-news program, they may see something a little different. The entire hour-long program will be anchored by women. ESPN die-hards will “see what’s important” in the world of sports, says Carrie Brzezinski-Hsu who oversees ESPN CreativeWorks, which helped design the format.
But there will be a few twists as well. Behind the scenes, female producers in the show’s control room will juggle all the action. And interspersed between the reports will be vignettes and live commercials for the financial-services firm Ally, which recently struck a sponsorship deal with Disney that calls for 90% of its spending to be placed in support of women’s sports.
“The game has changed recently,” says Stephanie Marciano, Ally’s head of sports and entertainment marketing. “We...

For those with a deep knowledge of indie rap, the Hempstead, Long Island native Roc Marciano is basically the scene’s godfather. His solo discography, especially albums like Marcberg, Rosebudd’s Revenge, and Mt. Marci, are canonical exhibitions of storytelling and dense lyricism. And despite his career grappling with the music industry’s rigid structures, he’d found a way to create on his own terms, and by the looks of it, he’s reaping the benefits. “Fashion, film, more music. I might start a band,” he says. “I’m just having fun with it.
